Blue October
Biography
The Texas quintet Blue October formed during the post-grunge boom of the mid-'90s, when vocalist/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld began penning angst-ridden rock songs with the help of his brother, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, and violinist Ryan Delahoussaye. Bassist Matt Noveskey and lead guitarist Brant Coulter completed the band's initial lineup, and Blue October released an independent debut album, The Answers, in 1998. The band's emotive brand of post-grunge led to the sale of 5,000 copies in their native Houston alone. Two years later, Blue October made their major-label debut on Universal with Consent to Treatment.
By the time Blue October began prepping for their third album, 2003's History for Sale, guitarist Coulter had left the group and CB Hudson (guitar/vocals) had been added. The band itself had also left Universal for Brando Records. The album's first single, "Calling You," became a Top 40 hit thanks to its inclusion on the American Wedding soundtrack, and Universal re-signed the band in the wake of such newfound success. The live CD/DVD package Argue with a Tree was released in February 2005, following 18 months of touring. Noveskey briefly left the band shortly thereafter, but returned in time to record Blue October's first studio album in three years, Foiled, which was issued in April 2006 and went platinum one year later. Before the band went on tour with Yellowcard in September 2007, Universal Motown Records released Foiled for the Last Time, a two-disc set consisting of a full version of Foiled, 14 newly recorded songs performed live, and several alternative remixes. Recording sessions for another studio album, Approaching Normal, commenced in mid-2008 with producer Steve Lillywhite, and the finished product appeared early the following year. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

wow how cool that you worked with Jeremy!! and yes this band is one of my favorites too!!!This is the one band that once I fell in love I never stopped. some bands come and go with me but Blue October is just the best.
They are my favorite band ever!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! They are amazing!!
I worked with Jeremy for a few years at a garden center before they started the band. He was a very nice guy.
i was locked up in Adrian and one of the lady staff there was a sister to Matt, I always thought that was cool.
OH IM JEALOUS OF YOU, i WANT TO SEE THEM SO BAD, aND DONT GET ME WRONG ABOUT jUSTIN, i AM VERY HAPPY THAT HE HAS RECOVERED AND IS IN LOVE AND HAPPY, i JUST APPRECIATE WHAT HE WENT THROUGH, AND WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED AS HE WAS dEALING WITH IT. gREAT TALENT IN THAT MAN AND HIS BAND!!
I agree about Approaching Normal being a mostly happy album. His face lights up in concert when he talks about his little girl Blue. I love seeing this side of Justin. Its called growth and its good.
ya it is kinda like that isnt it MM 94. I miss the good ol depressed and angry days. Yall herd Drill a wire through my cheek? now thats some good s**t!!I lika da freaky s**t!! Love "Somebody" off History for Sale, "X-amount of words" from Foiled is a nifty tune, And "What if we could" is one of my faves. oh I could go on and on love it all pretty much.OH "Shes my ride home" is another faves....had to mention that one!
I love this because he's singing about hate and stuff, but the music is all happy! It's like he's pissed off...but he's happy about it.
twin//blade: say it aint so!!! hes married? i thought i was gonna be his wifey and baby mama!! dammit!!!
awesome band, by far my fave.. but i am a little disappointed with the new album.... i think a few of the songs on there sound the same like say it, and should be loved... i think they sound pretty much like the same song. which blows but whatever!! i much prefer justin's writing when he was all depressed and suicidal over this newer happy go lucky stuff!!
Agreed. Consent to Treatment should be on here. Approaching Normal is all in all, a good album. I think the reason people don't like it as much is because a lot of Justin's lyrics are more positive and it doesn't sound like the older stuff. But, shouldn't we be happy that he's writing about things in a more positive light?
I love these guys sooo much..I cant believe I dont have the new cd:( but Im sad that its not so good.. Ive herd 1 song ..dirt room. and its the single from this albulm it was good but not GREAT..thats why I didnt rush out to buy it. But I have found with Blue October that I like the stuff that dosnt make the radio.. so maybe I should still by it.
Yeah I don't think I like their newest album, it just doesn't sound like them. wheres all their sound at? no keyboard effects, no guitar effects, no catchy guitar strumming, no catchy guitar solos, wheres the bass at for Christ sake?
I really wish that the album Consent to Treatment were on Pandora. HRSA is pretty much the best song ever.
I LOVE Blue October. I'll be going to my third show next month and I'm bound and determined to meet the guys this time! I think they're going to be my favorite band of all time.
it would be nice if the article mentioned how omaha was pivotal in the branding of this band. justin calls omaha his "home away from home" because it was the only market outside of houston when they were just getting started.
i think it takes Pandora a couple of weeks or a month 2 add an artists new album.but that probably depends on if they have permission.t h e y probably have 2 do sign a s**t load of paper work 2 add the new album.

My daughter Jamie introduced me to these boys waaaay back when, when they first started out. I have followed them for some years now, and like these kids and their music. Jamie hung out with them for months and goes to almost all of their shows. Their mom and dad are the managers, I believe and they too are quite a couple! Congrats to them all!
