The Bravery
Biography
The punchy modern rock outfit the Bravery feature Sam Endicott (vocals/guitar), John Conway (keyboards), Anthony Burulcich (drums), Michael Zakarin (guitar), and Mike H. (bass). The New York five-piece got its start in early 2003, a few years after Endicott (formerly of the Pasties) and Conway -- friends from their days at Vassar College -- relocated to the Big Apple and began putting a band together. After playing their first gig at the Stinger Club in Brooklyn in mid-summer, the Bravery's post-punk-influenced dance rock was all the rage. A residency at Arlene's Grocery and whispers on the street eventually led the Bravery to a recording contract with Island Def Jam in the States and Loog in the U.K. The Unconditional EP followed in early 2005. Critics almost immediately trounced on the band. The Village Voice proclaimed the Bravery to be "New York's Official Next Big Thing" while MTV and Rolling Stone hailed them as an artist to watch. A co-headlining tour with Ash in the U.S. in spring 2005 coincided the release of the Bravery's self-titled album, which produced two moderately successful singles in "An Honest Mistake" and "Unconditional." After more rounds of touring, the Bravery eventually retired to the studio with producer Brendan O'Brien (Rage Against the Machine, Neil Young) to work on their next album. Splitting their recording time between Atlanta and N.Y.C., the group's resulting The Sun and the Moon, which explored added textures and new instrumentation, surfaced in May 2007. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
Look, The Bravery are a decent band, but if you think they are not a mainstream band, you have a desperate need to expand your musical horizons. The Bravery are about as mainstream as it gets.

I'm a huge fan of this type of music, its a lot more different and its usually not mainstream because people dont like it often. But that's fine. They can have their emo slam-dancing scene idiots. I'll keep this taste in music.

Been a big fan of The Bravery since 04. Stay out of the mainstream cause it will ruin your sound. Im eagerly awaiting a 3rd album. A great new sound to my ears in a musical world of posers and copy cats
hhmmm. I say that it's a little too studio for me. Starting with the lyrics.
f**k the mainstream, they're doing their thing and doing it well
i like this. but they need to work a bit harder to break into the mainstream.
Their energy reminds me of listening to U2 in the early 80s - fabulous sound.

I've been a fan since "An Honest Mistake" came out and have seen them rock 4 live times live, including their recent stint on Projekt Revolution. Met them all in person signing autographs at that show and they were really nice and cool. I feel they made a much smoother transition to experimentin g with other styles on their 2nd album than the Killers did. I disagree with most of the what the Pandora reviewer wrote about "The Sun and the Moon." He failed to mention all the great rocking songs like
whoa...ive never heard of them until about twenty seconds ago, but i like em so far...
Love Love Love The Bravery! First heard them with An Honest Mistake and have now seen them every time they've played out in NYC. We always manage to get up close to the stage or in a spot where one of the band members jumps into the crowd. Nothing like Rock Musician Sweat, the elixir of life!
I thought they sucked live... Maybe it was out of their hands. But they were like an hour late on stage and the guy could not sing. Live 105 kicked 'em off 15 mins later because of time conflicts. I was totally disappointed . Some bands should just stay in the studio I guess...

Where have these guys been hiding? I really like their energy and their beat. Dump-box makes an excellent observation: "Great Sound....Kil l e r s meets Pixies meets Inspiral Carpets (3 excellent bands in one)"! I totally agree.
I love these guys since they first came out their music lifts me up when ever i'm feeling down. and the greatest music to listen in the car!
I just wish they would come to Austin more often :/ |
Get your label to get you more radio play!!! You should have hit the top ten with Sun and Moon!!! The entire album is off the charts.
ps. Get your butts down south wouldja? |
yeah they sound like the killers, but they sound more like franz ferdinand to me
I believe these guys got play before the Killers, but I could be wrong. I just know that I personally heard them and saw them on television long before I heard the Killers. The Killers are all fine and dandy, but they just don't kick a** like The Bravery do. 8P K~~more synth heavy; B~~more guitar heavy. Sooo...same genre with slightly different takes.
The Bravery puts on a great live show, by the way. I got to meet them! Whoo! |
Great Sound....Kil l e r s meets Pixies meets Inspiral Carpets (3 excellent bands in one).

These guys are pretty good live too... I watched them open for Incubus.. I wish I'd known their music beforehand..

gessh language!
these hotties are hot mad good and make amazing music.. how cares about getting it up the a** on an artist page? |
F**KIN A, if they keep coming up, that means that you like other bands that are just like them... so either you don't like them for an irrational reason (isn't that a paradox?) or you do like them and haven't realized it yet...
I dig this band. If I had to describe it and be bound to my words.. a perfect combination of the Cure and U2 wrapped in a 21st century groove.
These guys rock. |
yeah i mean ive never even heard these guys before. They have an alternative sound with a techno twist. Its great.
I met these guys in austin, they are a bunch of divas. They can't even drink like a real rock band.
Same as the killers, as much as I thumbs down these guys they still get played. Well, I'll just have to keep trying. Oh, how I hate them both! |
I could agree with G-ANN, I was surpirsed I went through HS and never herd these guys before, and I was a more of an alternative music listener than anything. But they are really great.
Wow, how did I miss out on this band????? Painfullly sad to hear, those lyrics!
