Caedmon's Call
Biography
Caedmon's Call is a CCM band that fuses folk-rock with adult alternative rock influences. Cliff Young (vocals, rhythm guitar), Derek Webb (lead guitar, vocals), Danielle Glenn (vocals), Aric Nitzberg (bass), Todd Bragg (drums), Randy Holsapple (organ), and Garett Buell (percussion) formed the Houston, TX-based band at Texas Christian University in the summer of 1992. The group originally included Aaron Tate, who left the band shortly after its formation, but he continued to write songs with Young. After spending some time playing locally, Caedmon's Call began touring college campuses across the South, steadily building up a dedicated following of young Gen-X singles.
Caedmon's Call self-released their first album in June of 1994. In August of 1995, they released their second record. Both independently released albums sold over 10,000 copies apiece, and were distributed in Canada and the U.K. as well as America. The two albums, plus their live shows, led Musician magazine to call Caedmon's Call one of the best unsigned bands in America. Such grassroots success attracted the attention of Warner Bros., which signed Caedmon's Call in 1996 and released their major-label debut, the Don McCollister-produced Caedmon's Call, in the spring of 1997.

i appreciate this band's honesty about their doubts and struggles in their walk w/ Jesus....i know i need to hear that other people are dealing with some of the same things i am....

Although I am a huge fan of theirs, it really is too bad that they couldn't keep Aaron Tate on as one of their songwriters. I truly believe theyr best songs are those written by him.

I have been a Christian since 1974. My walk with Jesus began while listening to Phil Keaggy, Paul Clark, Chuck Girard, All the Maranatha Music that came out of Calvary Chapel. I am always searching for modern Christian music that takes me back to that incredible time of the very beginning of "Jesus Music". Artists like Larry Norman, Petra, Resurection Band, Debbie Kerner, The Way and so many others that were pioneers in Christian Rock. Caedmon's call takes me back to that time.

This "biography" is not even close to the entire history of this incredible group, nor does it do justice to the sheer numbers of other careers they have affected! If you are a fan of Bebo Norman, then you have Caedmon's to thank. It didn't even mention the extreme impact that "40 Acres" had on the popularity of this group. I have followed them from the beginnings which included 2.5 other albums put out after the 1994 release of "Caedmon's Call", not to mention all of the Guild Collection albums

I love their song "We Delight," it is so wonderful, such a great worship song.
