Chimaira
Biography
Formed in 1998, the Cleveland, OH-based hardcore sextet Chimaira consists of singer/screamer Mark Hunter, guitarists Matt DeVries (who replaced Jason Hager in mid-2001) and Rob Arnold, bassist Jim LaMarca, drummer Andols Herrick, and electronic specialist Chris Spicuzza. The band's mixture of hardcore, metal, and electronics proved to be a big hit back home, as they sold 10,000 copies of their independently issued debut EP, This Present Darkness, leading to an appearance on the now-defunct USA Network TV show Farmclub. The band opened for the likes of Soulfly, Hatebreed, Spineshank, and Snapcase and was eventually signed to Roadrunner Records, issuing their 14-track debut full-length, Pass Out of Existence, in August 2001. The Impossibility of Reason followed on Roadrunner in May 2003, and Chimaira supported the effort with extensive touring, including dates with In Flames and appearances at Ozzfest 2003. After the release of the DVD collection The Dehumanization Process and addition of new drummer Kevin Talley (ex-Misery Index) in 2004, the band unleashed their third album, Chimaira, in 2005. Though a strong record, internal problems and ones with their label threatened to tear the band apart in the months following its release. They soldiered through it all, however, and by fall 2006 Chimaira had moved on from Roadrunner, inked a new deal over at Ferret, and began work on new material. Earlier that year, the band also welcomed back original drummer Andols Herrick. More of a team writing effort than their last album, the resulting Resurrection appeared in early March 2007 courtesy of a rejuvenated band, and Chimaira supported its release on the road with Killswitch Engage and Dragonforce. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

THE INFECTION IS THE BEST ONE, THEN RESURRECTION , THEN SELF TITLED
hey "mizzat" you might want to listen to the infection again because you must not have been paying attention. there are several solos on the album. in fact, there is an instrumental track that is comprised mostly of soloing.....
Saw them with Killswitch Engage and Disturbed awhile ago, it was awesome.
Chimaira is one of the best American Metal bands today.
Listen to thier whole cataloge and tell me it aint so..... |
i think the new album is great!! i dont know why any chimaira fans would complain about it!!??
I almost thought they rocked for a second in "The Impossibilit y Of Reason" but that went away when he started singing and the skill disappeared.
The drumming is quite uninspired on The Infection. This all started on Self Titled. Andols was forced to learn the style that Talley threw in for live songs off self titled and it stuck. You can hear it on Resurrection and even more so on The Infection. His drumming and the way it worked with the rest of the band on Impossibilit y and especially Pass was so unique. As a drummer, I cannot appreciate any of the last three albums. I still look to Andols as inspiration, always will.
They are pretty good. I heard they were groove metal so I checked them out. Kind of a Hardcore-mee t s - G r o o v e - M e t a l mix.
I AGREE THE INFECTION IS TOTALLY DIFFRENT N THERES NOT ONE F**KIN SOLO IN THE WHOLE ALBUM THERE BADASS N ALL THERE NEW SOUND I THINK IS KINDA WHACK!
Infection is different for them...there trying to grow and expand. Usually that goes against the "standard" pre concieved sound you have in your head for a band.
If you have some open mindedness, and if you really do like the band then give it an honest chance..... So its not break neck - death/thrash that your used to with them....is that bad?? I like the album. |
Ragen - give it another spin or three. Infection felt like the most droning, boring piece of junk ever on my first listen... then it clicked. :-P
I miss the old Chimaira (Impossibili t y all the way up to Resurrection ) . New s**t sounds really bland and lifeless...I couldn't make it through one whole song off the new album. Mark sounds good, the music however doesn't seem to even begin to reflect what this band is capable of in my opinion. Oh well, maybe next time around.
Yeah i should burn that place. I finally found Chimaira at best buy, and i bought the infection which is awesome.
the new album rox.
Chimaira rox. love em, one of the top 5 American Metal bands out today. |
HOLY S**T I forgot about their new album. Formed in Cleveland - s**t yeah. Too bad they don't come around more.
Caveman, whatever store you went to SUCKS. You should burn it down for not having any Chimaira on the shelf. |
DEATH IS OUT! the infection is out in stores i got it for 9.99 at Bestbuy woot.
i wish chimaira was touring as a main event, but anyway i went to the store to buy impossibilit y of reason, and guess what? the gay store didn't even have any chimaira cds, not even a place in the shelf for the band. place sucks.
so wtf is this s**t about the weapons tour not being on the west coast? I'm living in seattle now and i could see better show when i was in maine. Music capital of the west my a**.
I would love to see all the scared shitlesss faces of the disturbed fans when a REAL PIT opens up to Chimaira.
Disturbed fans havent a clue of what a truly intense pit is - in the traditional Pantera in thier prime days style - pit! |
While it sucks to have Disturbed there, it really probably does help Chimaira in the end - Disturbed may suck more than a vacuum cleaner, but they undeniably have a s**t ton of fans. Chimaira likely blows most of these kids away, well-deserve d l y expanding their fanbase in hugeness.
Exactly.
Im surprised actually that since its Disturbed's "festival" and they are the headliners they put such a more heavy band (both Chimaira and Killswitch) opening for them. I dont know, to me if I was a Chimaira fan (which I am) I would probably piss alot of Disturbed fans off by just talking s**t about how friggin weak Disturbed is. I cant stand those guys. |
Baron - So true, man! I looked at the info and was like "Oh man... Chimaira, Spineshank, KSE... s**t, Disturbed." At least you can leave before Disturbed play :P
Music as a weapon looks good EXCEPT FOR FU KING DISTURBED. I cant stand those candy a** fagggots.
They dont belong on the same stage as Chimaira. Killswitch is ok,......kin d a boring to me but they rock, occasionally . LOL. |
Whooo! Rock out wiv yer c**k out! Chimaira i wuv you guys! I'll be @ the show-front f**kin' row!
just got some tix for Music as a Weapon IV (Chimaira, Killswitch, Disturbed, Lacuna Coil as headliners). . .
