Circa Survive
Biography
Philadelphia's Circa Survive was formed by former Saosin vocalist Anthony Green with guitarist Colin Frangicetto -- both of them veterans of the local emo and hardcore scenes looking to indulge in the rule-breaking freedom of the neo-progressive movement of the mid-2000s. After Green and Frangicetto discovered likeminded bandmates in second guitarist Brendan Ekstrom, bassist Nick Beard, and drummer Steve Clifford, Circa Survive recorded their debut album, Juturna (named after a Roman goddess), for Equal Vision Records in 2005. Lots of touring followed, including Warped Tour dates, and the album steadily sold close to an impressive 100,000 copies. A spot on the 2007 Coachella festival led into the late May release of Circa Survive's follow-up, On Letting Go. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

is it just me or does anthony green sound like cedric bixler-zaval a ? i really don't know much about this band yet. will listen to more, but i suspect fans of this group may enjoy the group dredg, if your into creative eclectic music with hard rock roots.

Hmmmmmm..... T h o u g h t this was a female vocalist before reading..... not sure about this yet
sounds like deftones+hel i u m , you never know where the melodies are going to go. I love surprises. The guitars are gorgeous on the entire new album, and the drums always so classy! Clifford knows how to make a good beat and not distract from the subtle beauty of their tunes. Green tears it up on the new "The sound of animals fighting" album too. Buy it, it's the best one yet.

anthony green definitely has a unique voice...and it perfect for circa survive.
i love "the difference between medicine and poison is the dose." that's pretty much my favorite song by C.S. i'm sad that anthony green left saosin, but if he hadn't, circa survive probably wouldn't have been created. so now i have two bands to love. :) |
and btw saosin is just a bunch of drunk b**ches trust me i heard them live and stumbling :\
the vocals are top shelf just due to the fact that you dont hear a voice like that anymore in todays music im a metal head and i can appreciate this band just for the amazingly unique vocals
I wish Anthony had stuck with Saosin long enough to release a full record. The original 3rd Measurement in C was such a sick song. But He is doing a good job with Circa Survive. His vocals are crazy.
love anthony green. everything he does is awesome. circa survives is amazing!
i love these guys...the vocals are so different than any other bands.
Holy Crap! this guy sounds like he's been through the chipmunk filter! i like these guys though... good stuff, just have to laugh at the voice.
Circa Survive! Best band ever to be known! Anthony Green has the highest bestest voice ever.. I fucken love him> plus hes freaken HOT!
How do concerts go? Circa Survive has one of the best live shows around - very energetic! They sound just as good live also.
i think there is a hudge differance between the music of circa survive and soasin....i like circa wayy better, idk why i think that but...i do
I definitely agree with nemo. This isn't some hardcore band that you are supposed to run around moshing to. This is like lay down on your floor and stare at the ceiling while you take it in. Circa Survive needs to be absorbed :P
So I've noticed that some have mentioned it's hard to "rock out" to Circa Survive simply because of Anthony's voice. Personally, I wouldn't say that Circa is a band you "rock out" to. I believe they're more about the emotions and feeling expressed through the rhythms and melodies that you should "move" to. Something you can fall back onto and just relax. Try to focus more on the feelings you get from listening to them. They're not the violence that you may be hoping to find from others.
let cameron be a douche, Im pretty sure anthony's busy enough attending to those who actually appreciate his vocal prowess, instead of looking for haters.
they would be better if anthony green didn't sing like a girl in some of their songs. sure its their sound, i dont know if its me, but its hard to rock out to such a feminine sounding dude.
Anthony Green hands down most unique moving voice imo. I know this is kinda of weird but i feel like it's so good because it doesn't really have a specific sex to it. People like to call it fem but it's not its just neither masculine nor feminine. Also, cameron your a buffoon. Not only do you register your actual name as your display but your insult is just stupid. You sound like a high school freshman which you most liekly are. If your going to insult someone at least do it right.
anthony green is amazing. That was the most immature thing I've seen today. This isn't myspace, lets leave the vulgar comments about one more talented than youself for myspace.

Meh, it's ok, but 99% of all music that began in the 2000's is mediocre at best. Nothing will ever compare to the 80's and 90's underground music scene. Especially since 2000 was all about major labels trying to mimic the sounds from that period . . . and failing quite miserably.
Even the "good" bands from this era wouldn't have survived the 80's and 90's. The only bands that actually stand out from this era are bands that had their roots in the 90s. The Mars Volta being but a shadow of the a |

just wondering, i like this band and all, but uh, is this a chick singing? or a dude? i hear bits that are extremely feminine, but then i hear the key change and it sounds a bit more masculine. close your eyes to the sea is the song in question. not to be rude or anything.
Oh also to Internally Eternal nothing can really compare to the volta they are straight up off the wall jam forever with extreme and melodic sounds all at once. Well I guess in retrospect they compare throughout there sounds as a full band but that is a really hard comparison and I don't want to make a judgement call between two really amazing unique bands for there genres, followers, and ever down to years together and albums. Although both bands are still in there prime and going strong.

I'm sorry Raychel but Green's solo album was not really good at all he didnt really have dramatic or I guess explosive vocal changes it was mostly plain. Now don't get me wrong Anthony's voice is unique really unique but with his solo he could have done so much more but it kinda seemed like he was trying for melodic or easy but I guess comparing it to anything else idk lol anyways Circa is still amazing through and through. Nuff Said
i like it, really sounds like a more melodic mars volta. not saying they even compare to the mars volta either. just very good. not amazing
art work is amazing, vocals are even better! cira survive kudos!!!!
umm... anthony green is a lovely character. :) nice guy. :) and his solo album is FABULOUS! |
Green is the modern day beethoven, Mozart, or bach. his music is compelling and incredibly unique. love both albums!
Been my fav band for like 5 years. There is not one song they have that I semi dont like. Anthony Green is a f**king god
