Cold War Kids
Biography
Fullerton, CA's Cold War Kids make music with roots that go deep and wide, embracing influences as diverse as Bob Dylan, Billie Holiday, Jeff Buckley, and the Velvet Underground. Matt Aveiro, Matt Maust, Jonnie Russell, and Nathan Willett began crafting their soulful, blues-inflected take on indie rock as Cold War Kids in 2004, recording demos in Los Angeles soon after they formed. After signing to Monarchy Music, Cold War Kids released their debut EP, Mulberry Street, in spring 2005. The band's unique sound and impassioned live act generated a buzz -- particularly from bloggers -- that grew with each tour and release. Maust's clean but eye-catching designs for EPs like With Our Wallets Full and Up in Rags and the group's website also added to Cold War Kids' mystique. They spent much of 2006 on the road with Tapes 'n Tapes, Figurines, Sound Team, and Editors and appeared at that year's Lollapalooza. That summer, they signed to Downtown Records, also home to Art Brut and Gnarls Barkley. The band's full-length debut Robbers & Cowards arrived that fall. Loyalty to Loyalty, which moved in a slower, bluesier direction, was released in 2008. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide

White Stripes suck?? You need help! CWK are amazing however...hi s voice is stellar, but you can't let it dominate when you listen to them. Listen to the backround and treat his voice as another instrument.. . i t increases the enjoyment!

How are they like WS? White Stripes is more blues based, while CWKs is more like Billie Holiday and KOL.
I don't really think the white stripes & cold war kids are very alike, besides from both being alternative/ r o c k . but there's still a lot of room to move within the genre, and they're pretty different (I'm saying this as a HUGE fan of both)
they're so different than white stripes! i associate white stripe with old school rock. cold war kids is rock with layers of new orleans blues, tennessee country ... I have yet to hear their recent album but their first one was amazing!
Caught their show in Memphis, TN with Death Cab. I became an instant fan!
How much i like their sound catches me off-guard sometimes... they are simply amazing.

YES SO GLAD KROQ PLAYS THEM ON THE RADIO BEST STATION EVER KROQ WITH JET THE FISH KEVEN & OR BEAN
Picked up Robbers and Cowards recently, and it's excellent (particularl y "St John" and "Hang Me Up to Dry." Very glad I stumbled onto these guys.
definetly need to check out their "live at the paradiso" ep. got it off itunes... man... good stuff
Saw CWK in Denver at the Gothic. Inspirationa l show - best show of 2009 thus far. Garage-band rock at its finest.
Skipped class to see them. No regrets. Robbers is one of the better debut albums in recent memory.
one of those bands that will only get better in time. the sophmore album will make you or break you. in this case, it made them. im almost frightened to see what they will come out with next. bands like this are hard to come by.
"We Used to Vacation", "St. John, "Hair Down" are gut-wrenchin g soulful songs. I can't get over their sound and Nathan's bluesy voice. By far one of my favorite bands of all time. I love everything they put out! Great in concert as well.
I love "Hang Me Up To Dry". I really dig the Bass groove. And for the record, I pretty sure the line goes "I'm burning like the whites of your eyes".
They do remind me of the walkmen, but they have this particular sound that makes them sound unique and pretty kickass. Plus tying in lyrics with politics and other matters makes it way more sophisticate d and more like when jazz was first starting out in the 40's. I'm totally not saying they sound jazzy though.
They keep playing that hang me out to dry song. Lets hear something different from them. Pandora! Get it right.
seen them twice now they have a pretty amazing live presence
they still seem to hit the smaller venues which was nice since i was second and third row pit... they always jamm for awhile usually on "we used to vacation" and "hang me up to dry" love their new album |
I really liked Robbers and Cowards, and if Loyalty to Loyalty is better than that then it sounds like Loyalty to Loyalty is pretty damn good.
I like all their stuff
I promised to my wife and children that id never touch another drink again, but it sounds so soothing to mix a jin and sink into oblivion. we used to vacation is the s**t |
@ ko_go_bucks: Loyalty to Loyalty is AMAZING, at least that is my opinion. I agree about "Something is Not Right With Me" the song is not that great, and when I first heard it I was skeptical about buying the album. I love just about every song, there is such an amazing variety on this album, every song is truly and experience. I like it even more the Robbers & Cowards.
These guys are pretty good.
Is their new album any good? All that I've heard from their new album is Something Is Not Right With Me, which was just ok. |
