Cradle Of Filth
Biography
British black metal band Cradle of Filth were formed in 1991, originally comprised of vocalist Dani Filth (born Daniel Lloyd Davey), guitarist Paul Ryan, his keyboardist brother Benjamin, bassist John Richard, and drummer Darren. After recording a demo dubbed Invoking the Unclean a year later, the group recruited guitarist Robin Eaglestone, who quit soon after recording a second demo, Orgiastic Pleasures; however, when Richard exited the band a short time later, Eaglestone stepped back in to assume bass duties, opening the door for guitarist Paul Allender. Following a third demo, Total F**king Darkness, Cradle of Filth -- now with new drummer Nicholas Barker -- signed with the Cacophonous label, issuing their proper debut, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, in mid-1994.
The lineup changes continued when the Ryan brothers both departed to form the Blood Divine (and Allender left as well), making room for guitarists Stuart Antsis and Jared Demeter and keyboardist Damien Gregori to debut on the 1996 mini-LP Vempire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein. For the full-length Dusk and Her Embrace later that same year, Gian Pyres took Demeter's spot, and afterward, Gregori was replaced by keyboardist Les Smith; at any rate, the album substantially expanded the group's growing cult following. Cradle of Filth's next effort, Cruelty and the Beast, appeared in 1998, amid the group's steadily growing reputation for elaborate Alice Cooper/Marilyn Manson-style concert theatrics. Two years later the group returned with From the Cradle to Enslave, an EP that featured new drummer Adrian Erlandsson (formerly of Sweden's At the Gates and the Haunted), as Barker had departed to join Dimmu Borgir.
The band's dizzying lineup changes continued apace as Paul Allender rejoined the group and Martin Powell (ex-Anathema and My Dying Bride) replaced Smith on keyboards for the full-length Midian, which was appropriately released on Halloween 2000. Bitter Suites to Succubi was issued on Spitfire in summer 2001. The group added a choir and orchestra to the lineup for 2003's Damnation and a Day on Red Ink, and moved to Roadrunner for 2004's Nymphetamine. Thornography followed on Roadrunner in 2006, a year that also saw the release of The Cradle of Filth Box Set. Eleven Burial Masses, a collection of live material, arrived in 2007, followed by Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder in 2008. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

LOL. Children of Bodom is definitely melodeath. As is Arch Enemy and In Flames. Dethklok falls under the category of everyday, run-of-the-m i l l death metal. Dimmu Borgir's a decent match, although Graveworm would be closer.
Graveworm rocks, by the way. If you like CoF's riffs, but find Dani supremely annoying, definitely check out Graveworm. |
Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy and In Flames are all Swedish Death Metal and don't really sound like this.
Like the band but on the Filth Fest tour, Dani was doing "Black Metal Love Ballad" duets with the female keyboard player. That's not metal. Leave that crap for fan boys listening to that Bullet for my Valentine garbage.
did they completely get rid of the opra singer back up vocalist?? i know she has her own band now....
if ur old school filth but not new school filth what are you oh i know a wussy
Seriously, next time you listen to a song from Cruelty, Bitter Suites, Midian, or Dusk...liste n to those guitar riffs!!! Orgasmic!!!
Dani is brilliant. I love the way he can go from a really high screach to a low growl. CoF is the best.
My friend and I used to make fun of those vocals by going: "RAWR!!!! I'M THE CRADLE OF FILTH GUY!!!!!" in a high pitched voice. But now we realize that they actually are pretty good. We still do that though because it's funny.
Couldn't get into them. There songs have great parts but in the end, they were missing something.
I love the old cradle much better i pretty much gave up on them after cruelty and the beast especially when damnation and a day came out
thats true i suppose..lol . . i t just seemed to only use it when he screeched or sung..lol..b u t nontheless.. k i c k a s s band
While i deff like CoF i gotta say..his voice is altered..sli g h t l y maybe..but it is..iv seen himlive in concert and seen him use pedals to alter his voice..maybe back in the day he didnt..im sure screaming like that can tear up the vocals after a while..all in all though..does it really mater if he alters his voice..its still sick sh*t
And yeah, he screams like that live too. Well, at least back in the day, he did.
He practically perfected the super high-pitch banshee scream. Some people find his voice insufferable but I think he's the only singer that could really top off a band like Filth.
Old school Filth is some of the best music ever conceived. Period. Dark Fairytales In Phallustein and Cruelty And The Beast are their best albums in my opinion. Just wish their new stuff wasn't so lame. Now it's like Diet-Filth or Filth with soy extract. -.-
naw the voice isnt modified at all, his high scream is just high pitched scretching and yelling
man that crap is all modified through the mic and sound equipment , his vocals would be near as impressive with out it. the band is really a Goth glam metal band, but i must admit i like it at times and "Hollow Be Thy Name" rocks
"Dani's vocals remind me of an eight year old girl throwing a screaming fit."
Exactly right, Plague. But you gotta give Dani credit. He is one badass eight year old girl. |
They are a great band, I get why some of the black metal elitists don't like them but i do. Maybe if some was a little heavier, and sometime's Dani's voice can be annoying, not very often though.
Great Band Anyway!!!! |
I want to not like them but I can't. Some of their songs are just too much... crap really. But when they hit they hit hard and it's fantastic. They find that something extra that makes the screaming and endless double bass not only work but sound a bit different then all of the other bands doing exactly the same thing.
They should put Godspeed on here, it hearkens back to their 1st four albums (speaking of which, why isn't The Principle of Evil Made Flesh not on here?)
"Damnation and a Day" is their best in my opinion. "Godspeed" is a welcome change from their recent offerings... . . .
So anyone heard the new "Yes" tracks?
Haha, just kidding. Go back to listening to filth, I mean Cradle of... |
I'll keep this short. Most of their stuff I like. A couple songs here and there but overall I like them. Dani Filth is a good singer. Apparently yes there new album does sound very good. I'm glad everyone got over Thornography .
New album "Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder" is INFUCKINGCRE D I B L E "The Death of Love" is my favorite song on it.
Their new album is awesome. Its kinda like Midian, Dusk and Her Embrace, or Nymphetamine .
May I say that I quite agree with you, Dragon Gothica. But we cannot always expect them to mature. They are incapable of doing such a thing, as it would seem.
I love this band! I've been a fan sice I was in 8th grade...They ' r e quite amazing,list e n to their guitarist,He ' s amazing!!! I respect their talent, and Dani is quite a nice guy in reality.
like early michael jackson-the guy lombardo of soul-cradle of filths midian is fucckkin goth classic....
ewww dude there f**king singer looks weird ewwwwwww >_< also im not a very big fan of this band i like a few of there songs thats all i got to say
Despite the rudeness of many other comments, I think they miss something important about these fellow's music- they don't sound like ANYBODY else. Period. There's an operatic feel I enjoy- when one of their songs comes on, I'm the craziest critter on the dance-floor. To the folks who spew nonesense and give nothing resembling an intelligent critque: you sound like idiot children. Chill, it's music- you don't HAVE to like it. Vitriol as I've seen in several posts is both pointless and moronic.
this band is o.k. I'm not saying that theyre bad, but they are mediocre compared to most other industrial/m e t a l bands
