Cry Of Love
Biography
After a couple years of slogging it out down in the South, Cry of Love released their debut album, Brother, in 1993. Cry of Love was not cut from the same cloth as most of the '90's hard rock bands. Instead of sludgy Sabbath steals, punk rips, or grunge, the band faithfully recreated the classic hard rock sounds of the '70s. From Bad Company to Lynyrd Skynyrd, all of the staples of classic rock could be heard in their music; guitarist Audley Freed wrote riffs that seemed like lost album tracks from 1975. And AOR fans paid tribute -- they made "Peace Pipe" and "Bad Thing" major radio hits. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Brother
1992
Audley Freed is one of the great, underappreci a t e d guitarists. Great tone, incredible phrasing. If you like Brother, you should also try to find a copy of Diamonds and Debris. Different lead singer (Robert Mason stepped in, an outstanding singer whose recorded with Lynch Mob and Big C**k) but still killer tunes. As usual, that a band as good as this couldn't get any support from their label shows just how f'ed up the recording industry is.

I picked up this band in late 93 and simply played the hell out of it. It was simply fantastic. I was also grooving on Brother Cain at the time. You might want to check them out also. Darlahood dropped Big Fine Thing in early 96 and its very rock/blues oriented more to the rock side though. Groove on man. This kind of music puts your head right.

I remember 101 KLOL in Houston playing the heck out of this band. I liked them then but for some unknown reason never bought the CD. I "rediscovere d " this band a few days ago, and remembered how good the songs were. I love these blues driven bands with great riffs and singers, and would love to find more bands like Cry Of Love.

I am so lucky that Pandora started playing tracks from this album on my "Robin Trower Radio! BRAVO!

Columbia records dropped them after "Diamonds and Debris" because it didn't do great. But, unlike some sophomore releases-- which admittedly deserve to be trashed-- D&D was too musical for the mainstream. It is definitely the better of their two releases.

Always loved this band, then I freaked when I saw Audley join the Black Crowes for a few years! good stuff!

I bought the CD when it first came out. One of my all time favorites. Love to play it when friends are over. Someone always asks who it is and why they never heard of them. Too bad they never caught on... so much potential.

Well after the release of their second album entitled "Diamonds and Debris" the band ran out of money (signed with Columbia Records) and everyone went their seperate ways. The singer now plays drums in a cover band in Raleigh, NC. The guitar player audley freed went onto play with the black crowes and now tours with the dixie chicks and writes songs for them as well as for the band train.

I definitely thought this was a late 60's early 70's era band, until I read their biography. I wish there were more info about them, especially since the only album listed is 16yrs old. I dont agree with the artists that are listed as being similar... Early Rush, Bad Company, Mountain, or even Deep Purple would fit.
