Damian Marley
Biography
Damian Marley was only two when his father died, but the youngest of the Marley sons must have learned something. At the age of 13, he formed his first band, the Shepherds, which also included the son of Third World's Cat Coore and the daughter of Freddie McGregor; the group even opened up the 1992 Reggae Sunsplash festival. By 1994, Damian was working on his own solo project, and with the help of his father's label, Tuff Gong, he recorded Mr. Marley. Also lending a familial air to the sessions was the presence of Stephen Marley, who produced and co-wrote several songs for the LP. Halfway Tree from 2001 earned a Grammy nomination, but the public generally overlooked the ambitious album. Not so for the reggae-meets-hip-hop single "Welcome to Jamrock," which became an urban phenomenon soon after its summer 2005 release. Street-level mixtapes began featuring it, urban radio couldn't get enough of it, and remixes -- both legal and not so legal -- began appearing at a fast pace. The well-rounded album Welcome to Jamrock delivered on the promise of the single that same year, reaching the Top Ten. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

i think that's cool how bob marley's older children by his wife have accepted and even worked w/ damian. bob may have "gotten around" and made a kid or two on the side, but that doesn't seem to have stopped them from all coming together and being family regardless. much love to the marley family! :)

To THE ONE AND ONLY: I just saw Damian Marley and Nas this past weekend at Rock the Bells- They were awesome! I wish I could have saw more of them too. They were on for about 45 minutes, but I guess that's pretty good with all of the other talent that was at Rock the Bells.

Epic. Everysong off of Welcome To Jamrock is awesome, which is something that I rarely can say about music from any new artist.

keeping roots reggea the music that can lead to salvation. Isrealites scatterd to the four corners of the earth know your self and never forget that God is able to raise up a stone unto Abraham. remember from where you have fallen. God live forever. Life.

I just got the privilage of seeing Damian Marley and Nas a couple of weeks ago. i had won the tickets from my girl for doing the best moon walk for michael jackson. thank god she won cuz it was one of the chillest shows ive been to in awhile. although my one complaint is that it was only an hour long.

None in the Marley Clan is better than another. All are great performers in their own right. Julian, Damian, Ky-Mani, Stephen, Ziggy, Rita, Melody Makers (with Cedella and Sharon)--can ' t get enough. One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain. Jah Live.

Is that Treach from Naughty By Nature on "Stand a Chance?"
|

Very consistent with the marley message, being himself helps me trust him as a real artist, I like how he tries everything, alot of the work on the albums stuck with me. I cant say that he's great since his biggest hit that I know is a redone song, but he's definitely a positive addition to the reggae landscape.
