Dark Moor
Biography
One of Spain's longest-running heavy metal exports, Dark Moor was founded in 1994 by Madrid-based guitarist Enrik Garcia, and after honing their fantasy-laced power metal via three demo tapes (1996's Tales of the Dark Moor, 1998's Dreams of Madness, and 1999's Flying), signed with the independent Arise label for the release of their full-length debut, 1999's Shadowland. This was followed by releases like The Hall of the Olden Dreams (2000), The Fall of Melnibone (EP, 2001), The Gates of Oblivion (2002), and Between Light and Darkness (EP, 2003), which drew comparisons to European acts like Rhapsody and Blind Guardian, and fared quite well in established power metal markets such as Germany, Japan, and Brazil. All of these were also recorded by a stable lineup consisting of Garcia, vocalist Elisa Candelas Martín, fellow guitarist Albert Maroto, bassist Anan Kaddouri, keyboardist Roberto Peña de Camus, and drummer Jorge Saez, but a serious creative schism would tear Dark Moor apart (and lead to the creation of rival act Dreamaker) prior to 2003's eponymous long-player, leaving only Garcia and Kaddouri to work with new members Alfred Romero (vocals), Jose Garrido (guitar), and Andy C. (drums). At least the hallmarks of their music weren't altered, although a very distinctive quality was lost with Elisa Martin's departure (the world not being exactly rife with great female metal vocalists). Kaddouri too would decide to split the following year, but was duly replaced by bassist Daniel Fernandez as Dark Moor carried on as usual with 2005's Beyond the Sea. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
I'm not diggin' the male vocalist. Elisa gave the band such a unique feel. A guy trying to emulate her voice is just creepy. Plus Elisa had a powerful voice and a sexy accent.

I tried to find them on iTunes, LimeWire, and some other less popular methods of music acquisition. LimeWire's got nothing, but I managed to score a copy of "Beyond the Sea" on iTunes. The name of the artist is still Dark Moore, but the album title and artwork are completely different, and it took a while to find it at all. I really wish I could get something from Gates of Oblivion, but I haven't even come close.

I feel like crossing the sea and plundering some villages after listening to this.

Autumnal might just be their best album yet...but then again, it's hard to top anything they've made...ever. I think it's a toss up between Autumnal and The Hall of Olden Dreams for best Dark Moor album.
I just discovered this band yesterday and I must say they're very talented. I have yet to hear a song by them that I didn't like and hopefully Pandora will get Tarot and Autumnal on here soon.
I wouldn't mind having Tarot on here...But sometimes Pandora is really behind...the y also don't have an amazingly huge selection... j u s t some of the bigger bands in the genres.
Dark Moor is my favorite metal band right now. Both vocalists are incredible!
I can't believe they still don't have the album Tarot on here. I understand Autumnal is not on here but come on. Tarot came out '07.

dragonforce stinks they yous computers too speed of the guitars. and hammer fall is the best band ever. the one is just ok.
DragonForce is so widely hated by proud metalheads because it all sounds the same. Granted there are MINOR differences in some of the songs, but not very much. They are very skilled musicians, especially Herman Li, they just lack the songwriting ability. They are a great band to listen to if you like that easy going, laid back type of power metal/speed metal that plays music to have fun and not to make a statement. It can be really entertaining to hear that pacman noise sometimes. lol
Oh, please, no more dissing DragonForce! I like a lot of bands, but Dark Moor is really up there on my list of 575!!!!! DF is good too. Just way different. Thanks for all your comments.
@Maxhammer: I'd like to think that their new singer just has an excellently girly voice. But I agree, they do have an excellent sound. Even if it is massively studio-edite d , they're still 5.7x10^30 times more interesting than DragonForce.
How do these guys get this sound !! The lady singer is is gone; the new male sounds just like her. They must studio the hell out of the sound-(!!!!? ? ? ) I saw them on film and the keys were gone- must have connections with the Madrid Symphony- can anyone tell me?? BUT They sound sooooo good !!!!
C'mon! I keep waiting for this song to go full throttle(Ale a Jacta)but alas,it does not. They have potential...
Good stuff, I just wish I could understand Spanish or the "possibly" English they are using.
The Hall of the Olden Dreams is a great album. Good guitars, great melody, soaring choruses - thanks for cluing me in on this one, Pandora.
jayxsnoogans , if you outlaw power metal then only outlaws will have power metal. On second thought, that would be pretty cool in its own right.
Pandora, another righteous, hard rockin' band. Thank you. Keep feeding my head at keyWestRoXra d i O . . .
I'd really like these guys if I could understand a word of their english
But....power metal rocks so hard it should be illegal |

This band is the sole reason that I changed my opinion that all good metal came from Scandinavia. I discovered shortly afterward that Germany is pretty good too, and even though it only happens about once a millenium, America is graced by a metal band that doesn't suck (i.e: Kamelot).
Love Dark Moor's brutality and composition. |
I agree Ben. There is so much good stuff out there, but we get crap like the Jonas Brothers and Panic at the Disco. I'm American, but I have to say 75% of Americans are bat sh*t stupid. Most of them are all caught up in the over-commerc i a l i z a t i o n of bull crap.
Must agree with Ben. We are deprived of any real choice of our own in the conventional outlets. I've discovered so much good stuff on Pandora lately; I'd go broke buying it all. I can't personally broad brush that everything I hear on commercial radio is junk, but then my musical spectrum cuts a wide swath.
Dark Moor? Can't say I've ever heard of them before. But here in America the only thing we do hear of is "American Idol" and the stupid Grammy Awards. We Americans are so Deprived of Good Music.
I am not the biggest fan of power metal but this band has enough interesting melodies to keep me hooked.
Saw a recent video of this band. One could hear the keyboards- but he was no where to be seen. Seems kind of wierd- to show your band and pretend the keyboardist doesn't exist- except on the audio. I love this band but that seemed like a cheap shot.
Sorry for bringing up DragonForce again, but most people who criticize bands for not being as good as DragonForce refer to them as DragonForce rip-offs or imitators. The fact that they criticize bands that were around before DragonForce in this way shows that they no nothing about power metal, so their opinions thereupon should not be taken seriously. Dark Moor Rules.

blind guardian iced earth and brainstorm are by far my favorite power metal bands check them out
if your looking for samples of songs lionheart or lord of the rings should be the ones you check out. for iced earth pretty much anything from dark saga or horror show. and brainstorm would be fading and trinity of lust shiva |

you do know that ralph maccio was only acting like he was playing it was actually Steve Vai and forgot the other person's name playing the stuff in Crossroads

Comments for a few of you:
accarranza- making a movie comparison? Do you even know what the hell you're talking about? Cori- they actually do have words in a lot of their songs. HayWire21- ....er, what? I don't even care how you discovered that, just why did you decide to share it with us? ...and what does that even have to do with...never mind. You're just screwing with us. |
