Biography
Bo Bice proved that American Idol could have a rocker as a finalist, but Chris Daughtry proved that the show could generate a successful rocker outside the context of the show. Of course, it helped that Daughtry was the polar opposite of Bice, a shaggy retro-rocker soaked in the South: bold and bald, he was the picture of a modern rocker, living by the rulebook written by Live and Fuel. These were the qualities that helped make Chris Daughtry the most successful new rock & roll singer of 2006.
Like any AmIdol finalist, Daughtry had a long run as an amateur musician. The North Carolina native -- born in Roanoke Rapids, he lived in Charlottesville, VA, before establishing himself in the Greensboro area -- began singing in local rock bands when he was 16 years old. He continued to play locally after his high-school graduation in 1998, marrying his girlfriend Deanna in 2000, a few months after the January 2000 birth of their son Griffin (he adopted Deanna's daughter from a previous marriage). Family man he may have been, but Daughtry didn't let his rock & roll dream die, as he continued to play guitar and sing in a band called Absent Element. He auditioned for Rock Star: INXS in 2005 but was rejected -- a rejection that turned out to be rather fortunate since it freed him to audition for the far more popular televised singing competition American Idol.

I think Chris Daughtry has shed new light in the rock world. It is nice to have someone of age that the middle age population can enjoy along with thier younger peers. He blends in with all ages making his music very versitile. Cant want for his next CD.

Just to clear a few things up. Bo didn't win Carrie did, and Chris and Bo weren't even on in the same season. I know who cares but there it is. I'm glad Daughtry made it big, He was my choice for american idol...I wish they weren't as big though... too overplayed on the radio, so its nice to hear the different songs on pandora

Daughtry is pretty good, well at least better than so called "Raver" music (a.k.a really fast crappy techno that know one even acknowledges because they are too strung out on acid, weed, x etc.)

Bo won probably because the morons that actually vote wanted a "rocker" to win. Apparently his actual talent was NOT taken into consideratio n . I did listen to Bo's stuff to be open-minded and it truely is crap.

Chris should've won his season of Idol! That still kinda ticks me off that he didn't..Alth o u g h he is sooo successful even without winning, he still should've won! I looooved him on the show and I love him now! Daughtry is the bomb!

Daughtry showed everyone you don't have to win first place on American Idol to be successful. My 12 year old son sang "It's Not Over" at his music class's talent show and rocked the house!

First time in a long time that I've liked almost all the songs delivered by one artist. Two best songs: It's Not Over & Over You.

Rejected by bands and third place on idol, Chris and band can throw it down and rock the house......t h e i r isn't a single song on Daughtry I dislike. I can't believe how the band dominated for a entire year. To Chris and band stay way cool!
