DC Talk
Biography
The first gospel act to incorporate hip-hop influences (though the trio rarely departs from standard pop/rock), dc Talk became one of the most popular groups in Christian contemporary music during the mid-'90s, when their fourth album, Jesus Freak, made the highest debut for a gospel act on Billboard's album charts. Formed in Washington, D.C., during the late '80s, the group first comprised Toby McKeehan and Michael Tait. Adding Kevin Max Smith to the lineup soon after, the group added elements of hip-hop to their self-titled debut album, which appeared in 1988 on the ForeFront label. Neither McKeehan, Tait, nor Smith were comfortable playing instruments on their recordings, so each recorded only vocals by the time of 1991's Nu Thang. After the release of Free at Last just one year later, dc Talk concentrated on touring for several years, during which a change of image resulted in the group's resemblance to a grunge band. Indeed, 1995's Jesus Freak featured more raging guitars, though within the medium of harmonic pop/rock. Upon its release, Jesus Freak sold more copies than any gospel album in history and eventually moved over one million copies. Supernatural followed in 1998. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

i put in a dc talk staion and it gives me like 1 dc talk. then i put in tobymac and get 3dc talks?!
I don't think they'll be getting back together any time soon. Michael Tait has just signed as the new lead singer for the Newsboys. And tobyMac has a pretty successful solo career.
lolol, no. TobyMac is white. He graduated from Liberty University, where I go. KJ-52 and TobyMac have some great Christian rap/hip-hop/ r o c k albums.
lets hope they get back together and become the next "Nu Thang" o, and is tobymac the guy who looks like mr. T?
A Christian boy-band. Like the Jonas Bros. only more dedicated, more talented, more experienced and more rap influenced. Verdict: Jonas Bros. fail.
Toby Mac IS DC Talk. I heard that when he was in college that was his "stage name". I also heard that he owns the rights to most of the songs they sang.
they put the wrong lyrics for jesus freak. those are the words for jesus is just alright
i really hate how i type in dc talk and they only play one song by dc talk i dont get it
Why is Free at last not listed??? That was my favorite CD of theirs. This discography is definitely not complete. Free at last had some awesome stuff, I believe a few of the songs on that CD won Hope awards for songs of the year.
Come on Pandora... |
Oh I love Jesus Freak. I hope i'll be like that when i'm older. i really like the part about jonh the baptist.
they gotta come back. toby did jesus freak and in the light at winter jam who knows??
I grew up on DC Talk, I listened to their tapes (yes, casette tapes) over and over until they wore out. I was dissapointed when they went their seperate ways, but I kind of expected it, they each have different callings.
I know this might be old but any idea if they are ever going to get back together?
i dont really care if they label me a jesus freak~ cuz there aint no disguising the truth!!! i love toby's solos... ...amazing song
hey this band is AMAZING
there is rap/hip-hop better than them, and that includes grits and KJ-52 |
Let's say this, with out the Lord using Dc Talk, there would be no one else....(ok the Lord would have used someone else) but think about this, when Hip hop was just called rap, and the asnwer to a lot of the muisc that was out there, was Talk....you had some good MC come up after that, Like D-Boy (R.I.P) Mike-E, and TC, P.I.D, DT, just to name a few because we just had a few. They held it down for the faith....Tha n k GOD for Talk....and I like the first tape......
Sweet album (Jesus Freak) , first real music I ever listened to indirectly got me hooked on relient k

DC Talk was, is, and always will be a great group. That being said I gotta say it just amuses me to no end some of the people who feel the need to post a message these days. Christian music irritates the enemy within them to such a degree that they just have to lash out at the artist that brought Jesus to their ears. Well, you may not believe in God but he loves you just the same, and unfortunatel y the devil believes in you...Infact he just sent you here.

They have another album than the ones listed here. The self titled DC Talk album. It wasn't very good though. They also don't have my favorite album listed. Free at Last was amazing. My absolute favorite band of all time.
This is one of my fav Christian Bands of all time and this album is one of my desert island 10. Minds Eye is awesomee! the harmonics are the best, as well of course Jesus Freak!!!!!
It has been my anthem since I was saved in '99! |
When dc Talk left so did I. I havn't listened to music on the radio since just XM 70's and 80's the stuff I grew up with.
Had tickets to the first concert when Kevin Max left, I didn't go. |
God Bless these men. They revolutioniz e d the christian music industry. They brought many people to Christ. :)
I love this group and if they do get back together it would be great!
God Bless All! |
i have heard rumors of a reunion tour for 2009. i heard it on the radio, but can't back that up with fact.

Hahaha, wow.
Go "bawwww" somewhere else. Noone cares for your opinion, and if you can't appreciate oldschool, then you can't appreciate music. Honestly, the music of today (your "real" music) sucks so much its not even funny. Like I could even understand the message of half the bands you probably listen to, and those that I could could be summed up with "N**ger sex drugs violence, more sex, money." So go be stupid, ignorant, and immature somewhere else. Fail Troll is Fail. |
you are an ignorant hell bound lost little boy, didn't joe mama teach you about Jesus? such a pity
