Default
Biography
Vancouver's Default fit the definition of straight-ahead hard rock in the early years of the 21st century: the guitar textures and melodic bent of grunge; the dark, brooding earnestness of post-grunge; and the deep, thick-sounding production (but not the rap influences) of new alternative metal. Default was formed as the Fallout in summer 1999 by guitarist Jeremy Hora and drummer Danny Craig, four-year veterans of the local Vancouver music scene; after auditioning several vocalists, they settled on former high school classmate Dallas Smith, whose power made up for his inexperience. The group recorded a demo with an unidentified bassist, and it fell into the hands of Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, who knew Hora and Craig from one of their previous bands. Kroeger offered to produce their independent recording sessions, and the group began gigging around Vancouver. In 2000, they entered a talent competition sponsored by a local radio station and won a spot on the Vancouver Seeds 2000 sampler CD, shortly before they changed their name to Default. Their song "Deny" subsequently became a smash hit on local rock radio, which led to a deal with TVT Records. Bassist Dave Benedict joined the band full-time not long after. Thus constituted, Default entered the studios with producer Rick Parashar in spring 2001 and recorded their official debut album, The Fallout; it was released later that year. Their follow-up, Elocation, came out in late 2003. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

i disagree. nickelback is a great band. but these guys are pretty good too. :- )

Well, it wouldn't be hard to be better then Nickelback. Default is good but not my favorite.
Default has been showing up a lot on my station and I've consistently enjoyed their songs. A 'better' Nickelback is a rather apt way to describe them.
Agreed Clay, but don't you think that if they stopped singing dirty and started singing somewhat like they used to, then they'd get a larger audience? That's the way I feel, at least. I hate seeing the good bands go into the crapper due to poor decisions :/
I agree nicklebacks music is dirty but you sometimes have to listen beyond that. they still produce good music
I first heard them when i was in the 7th grade i am now a senior and love theier music. to this day
I think, personally, they're better than Nickelback. I've grown disgusted by Nickelbacks' music, especially now that some of the newer songs are dirty. Their crowd is becoming more and more limited, unlike Default, who continues to produce music that always seems to satisfy my alternative side.

I like their sound. It's got all the good things about the really popular rock bands and none of the crap. They've got great talent and a lot of potential. I hope they continue to produce quality rock for many years to come :D
Saw them open for Nickelback about 4 years ago in college. They aren't new by any means. They're only now getting the recognition they deserve.
Never heard this sound before. A completely new and original band. Suprised more are not like them.

Vern your right pandora loves default its like they are the default for about every station lol. I swear not a day goes by when im on my quick mix and I hear at least 4 or 5 songs half of them being sick and tired lol which is really funny cause im getting sick and tired of default. More like burnt out on em. Good band don't get me wrong just wtf they have same melodics and genres as EVERY other band lol I think not. Nuff Said

Great vocals...tha n k you for not being a screamer!
i like wastin my time. and once again have a ball just shut the hell up you moron. all you have to say is negative sh*t you b@st@rd. so lay the f**k off
Default imitates their influences without adding any original flair of their own. Generic and unexciting. But I guess you can't blame them for copying all the guys Pearl Jam influenced; who doesn't?
Nickelback, Creed, Pearl Jam -- ish. They have all influenced these guys. Worth a listen. First two albums better than third, but we're all waiting for their latest.
They sound more like country than rock. lol. Sound okay, but this isn't the style that they should do.
Is it just me, or does the song 'Deny' sound very...Nicke l b a c k - i s h ?
They're pretty good except for the vocalist who needs to really work on his voice. it sounds a little weird. sorta like singing/scre a m i n g very badly. it needs to be more idk mean or something.
Why does every station play a default song it does not matter the genre they just play on everything
