Demons & Wizards
Biography
The progressive power metal band Demons & Wizards was a side project for Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kursch and Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer; it also featured onetime Iced Earth drummer Mark Prator. Demons & Wizards recorded a self-titled debut in 1999, with Schaffer also handling bass on the record (occasional lead guitar was contributed by guest Jim Morris). Already available in Europe, Demons & Wizards was issued in the U.S. in early 2000 by Steamhammer/SPV. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

@John Moore: Did you not read the text below from the interview with John Schaffer? There will be another D&W album, hopefully in 2010.

Never will the world again experience the life brought to us by Demons and Wizards. They are the blood of metal!

I mean, we don’t have to do it on any specific schedule. We had a really long talk about it and I’m really looking forward to it because I always enjoy working with Hansi and just spending time with him. So, our first get-together is going to be late in the year, but before that I’ve got a few things going on and like I said, we’ll announce it in due course.
We are not going to be bogged down by schedules – we’re going to do this as we see fit and we’re not going to let a particular window of opportunity dictate that this is when we have to do it. We’re going to do it as it feels natural – and if we feel that in Spring of 2010 that we don’t have the songs yet then we’ll push it back.
I mean I’m proud of that record (“Touched by the Crimson King” 2005) and it sold killer and it’s a good album but I think Hansi and I are capable of a lot more especially when we get back to the root reasons of why we did this thing together.
We’re going to have two song writing sessions. We are committed to doing the bulk of this in-person. One of the things I felt like from the last Demons album was that we hhad this window of opportunity where we had to get it done and we kind of let time dictate the schedule instead of our feelings and that was probably a mistake.
From an interview w/ Jon Schaffer: Hansi and I have planned late in 2009 to get together to do DEMONS (and WIZARDS) stuff so that’s going to be cool. We saw each other in Cologne (earlier this year) and made plans and I think it’s realistic to say that there will be a third DEMONS and WIZARDS album probably mid- to late 2010.

anyone know if they are going to make another album. i cant wait for another taste of the awesomeness. and godsmack suck hard hairy balls so shut the f**k up willow and go talk about your obsession for godsmack on the godsmack page. im pretty sure half of the people who commented on that page will hate you because of your retarded ideas.

Just found two new covers (The Trooper and School's out)! Also found two new songs that I have never heard of before!
Hey Will.Oh, go jump in the Arctic Ocean, you freak! I dare you to come up with a positive comment about any band except Godsmack, Disturbed or AIC. As a funny side note to you, Will.Oh: You fail at life, and you also fail at seeing the greatness of awesome metal bands. P.S. That category does not include Godsmack!
Hansi Kursch is the s**t. A vocal GOD! And paired with Schaffer, it's indescribabl e . Love it.
I just realized i really dont like power metal.
Its cheesy. Mainly the vocals and the dramatic nature of it, just...corny . |
it's a BLIND EARTH... Demons & Wizards are great, love to see them as a touring band.
Hansi is the s**t! He was ace in Blind Guardian, and hes just as good with Schaffer backing him up. Keep the good stuff coming my way, Pandora!
There are times when the vocalist sounds a lot like Dee Snider (Twisted Sister). Keep in mind this is the first time I'm really hearing these guys though. Not too bad for speed metal.
Beautiful, tasteful, and very emotional material. very clean musicianship - vocals are excellent.

In case anyone is wondering, the Title song Fiddler on the Green has an amazing story behind it, one that makes the lyrics take on a whole new meaning. It is one of the most awesome story behind a song ever: one day Hansi was out walking when he came to a stop light and saw a little boy get run over by a car; it killed him. This really affected Hansi, and a week later he was out, when he saw the same thing happen to a little girl, she was killed right in front of him. Realizing the significance
...of the tradgedy, he wrote the song about the little girl who one day is visited by the remorseful Grim Reaper, who explains to her that he made a mistake and took the life of a little boy too early, and that that little boy was destined to marry the little girl. So the little boy is now in the after life, lonely and waiting for his soul-mate. The Grim Reaper askes the little girl if she would join him, and she accepts. My favorite song ever, I got this from an interview w/ Jon Schaffer.

Long ago there was a band by the name of TYRANT from America. There music was amazing much like this great stuff. This band kind of sounds like Savatage also. The cool keyboards are interesting, they must be cool to see live.
BooYa! Something about metal this EPIC, makes me feel im on a battlefield in the olde country, rather than at a computer in a cubicle! Thank you D&W!
Yeah, D&W kicks some serious a**. Talented folks, I'm a huge BG and IE fan as well.
I enjoy both albums for their own flavors. I can listen to either depending on my mood and be quite happy.
heard fiddler on the green, and hold on the song just got way intense.
you put it perfect kevin, lots of emotion. I like the folk feel, kind of the same feel you get when listening to battle of evermore. did they really try to cover immigrant song? some things cannot be redone. I will be listening to this band again. |
No wonder! I was like this guy sounds familiar...a n d then I find out its Hansi Kursch! Awesome!
favorite song from demons and wizards is by far fiddler on the green
such an amazing song with so much emotion. |
Great band, lead by 2 masterminds of metal.
I perfer their 1st album personally. |
Touched by the saviour. And that saviour is Demons & Wizards.
I almost 5h17 myself when I read Blind Guardian and Iced Earth together. It's just as amazing as the two bands separated.
This band is awesome. I love these epic power metal bands that are just like "Dragons! Swords! Battle! Treasure! Kings! Ect!"
