The Derek Trucks Band
Biography
Blues/blues-rock guitarist Derek Trucks is the nephew of longtime Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks. He displays a command of slide guitar styles running the gamut from blues to classic R&B and early rock & roll to classic jazz. Although blues players like Buddy Guy, Elmore James, and Duane Allman have been a strong influence on Trucks' slide guitar playing, so have pre-'70s jazz players like John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Sun Ra. Trucks began playing guitar when he was nine, and shared stages and sat in with the likes of Buddy Guy and the Allman Brothers Band by the time he was 12. Trucks began his professional career playing with blues bands around his native Jacksonville, FL, and formed his own group in high school. Before the age of 20, Trucks had shared stages and jammed with Bob Dylan, Joe Walsh, and Stephen Stills. The Derek Trucks Band, which has members ranging in age from their twenties to their forties, released their self-titled debut album in 1997 on Landslide Records. Out of the Madness followed in late 1998. Since then, they have released Joyful Noise (2002), Soul Serenade (2003), Live at Georgia Theatre (2004), and Songlines (2006). Already Free appeared from RCA in 2009. ~ Richard Skelly, All Music Guide

My husband introduced me to Derek's music when we were dating. I was instantly enthralled by his serenity and passion. I've seen them several times in concert and always had a great time. I truly appreciate all the great music Derek and his band have given to the world!

People like Derek, are the future of REAL music for all of us. Truly innovative and unique. Hopefully he sticks around to further his sound, because like a fine wine, it will only get better with age.
Thanks you Derek and your band backing you, for bringing us some awesome music. Saw him live, was just amazing. |

A new name to me but one I will be watching. Just the first licks of the song sent me to find out who it was. I knew all of Stevie Ray's and and the Allman Brothers and this was an Allman's sound I had not heard. I think I have everything of both artists and a lot of many others of this sound. I think I will be gaining some new music soon. This is what I like Pandora for!

Wanee Fest 2009. This beautiful blonde haired man kicked it of his own accord not only with DTB performance, but alongside Warren in an allman bros band 2 nite 2 1/2 hour concerts. No guitar player like him. He is simply amazing.

Anyone want a purely enjoyable evening should check out this band. They can rock and sooth in a way not many bands can these days. If you like the slide even a little bit, it is worth it to view this guitarist. He is one of the best!

baddest cat on the scene these days.. i've seen him lift Clapton, The Funky Meters, Allmans (of course) and Panic way above their usual LIVE fire, and he does it with such class and respect..
he`s amazing. i can`t wait for his new cd. it`ll be hard to beat songlines, but i think it will. i`m getting it the day it comes out.
saw them last month or so at the Blue Note in Missouri- some of the best guitar I have ever seen live. He is incredible. However I have also seen him with the Allman Bros. and he really shines by himself rather than with them. He seems to overshadow anything else that's going on. I don't need words- just his incredible guitar.
Just saw him earlier this month at the Majestic in Madison, WI I was at most 8 feet from the stage...it was an amazing performance. It included a cover of Coltrane's Favorite Things, most people didn't get it.
Saw him play at a club on St. Simon Island around the year 95 - he was young and so talented - this is what it menas to use your God given talents - thanks for the music Derek - keep on jamming.
Absolutely the hottest up and coming slide player around. Plays behind JJ Cale and Clapton on their recent collaboratio n "Road to Ensenada" among many other credits. Catch him backing up Clapton et al. on the Clapton's 2007 Guitar Summit (great DVD0.
He recently played with Susan Tedeshi at Grand Targhee and they set the mark for the rest of the festival. Absolutely amazing.
I saw him play with Clapton in Charlotte; it was a life affirming experience.
The best guitar player I have ever seen. He is a must see, if you ever get the chance do not pass it up!!
Derek is a true prodigy. I saw him at age 12 and he was bringing it like grown man.
what a phenomenom. slide ruler...too young to feel the blues and project it..but he does...so give us more.
Derek isn't paralleled by any one in his generations of players. The perfection which he graces every genre he touches puts him leagues ahead of his peers. Derek never disappoints.
I wonder if he'll get to the point where he says "I just can't get any better at playing guitar". I hope not. I've seen him a couple of times and was blown away. Go see him.
