Biography
Following the dissolution of Marilyn Manson/Korn-aping, nu-metal also-rans Coal Chamber, vocalist Dez Fafara hooked up with guitarists Evans Pitts and Jeffrey Kendrick, bassist Jon Miller, and drummer John Boecklin to form DevilDriver -- a rather more extreme band dedicated to the subsequent hardcore-meets-death metal trends. Signed to Roadrunner like Fafara's previous group, DevilDriver released their eponymous debut to mixed reviews in 2003, and then its even less appreciated follow-up, The Fury of Our Maker's Hand (where Pitts was replaced by Mike Spreitzer), a couple of years later. 2007 saw the release of Last Kind Words, again on Roadrunner. Damn. Devildriver is mighty epic. Why is everyone bashing on them? They're right up there with my favorites. They're 10x better than most american "metal". Annnnd. They're different. His vocal style is often compared to that Korn guy, but so is Ander's voice from in Flames. Wtf? Doesn't make sense as they are completely different. Anyways...

I agree with Victoria. I couldn't even force myself to read Willow's whole comment. Can you make a complete sentence Willow? Are you the product of two closely related biological family members? What the Hell is wrong with you?

Does anyone know how to report members to be removed? Where's Willow has written completely idiotic things that have nothing to do with the music on nearly every comment board I've visited recently.
That said, I never knew there was a "public opinion" on DevilDriver. There usually isn't much of a "public opinion" on the music I like because the "public" usually doesn't know it exists. Ha! What is this "public opinion"? |

Yea i would have to agree with you on that one. Every album theyve come out with has its good songs but it also has those songs that are just ok.... not sayin DD isnt the s**t, they are its just they have yet to come out with their golden album. The same problem that most good bands out there face, just goes to show you the differnce between good bands and great bands i suppose.

I am a big time fan of devildriver, so I am reluctant to say this but.... Does it seem like these guys have yet to put out that one album that stands out from all the others (not just their own work, but anyone out there)?
What I mean is Reign in Blood is to Slayer, as Master of Puppets is to Metallica, as Ashes of the Wake is to Lamb of God. I am waiting for that...blow me away material from these guys!!!! Don't get me wrong I love all their stuff, just waiting for that ONE!!! |

I agree that Pray For Villians isn't as good as the older stuff... technically speaking I think they've improved (the first track of the new song is wicked fast, although I would like to see if they can actually pull off that speed live), but their songwriting suffered. Tis a bit boring compared to FooMH. Still, these guys kick a**.

I was listening to my metal station for a while - in the office - to the point where I wasn't really hearing it anymore. Then these guys came on and my attention snapped back from my work to the music. To me that says something - they've got a groove that many of the others don't these days. Kudos!

Dez Fafara fukkin owns biatch!! These guys shred 99 cent whores to pieces and the vocals are a GREAT compliment. John Boecklin throws it down!!!

Some groups use make-up and costumes to create an indentity for themselves. Then you have Devildriver, who just fukkin bring it everytime!! I keep hearing how much these guys tour, but they never seem to cross the midwest, what a damn shame!! LOG and DD representing the finest in metal!!

@WWIII you must have listened to the wrong songs then guy, every song on all 4 albums are f**king badass, either that or your local college record store has badass metal. and if you want to hear the same crap on a loop then listen to droid (dont get me wrong i like droid but there album sounds like one big song). just remember talking s**t about a band this amazing, and this widly loved especialy here of all places, you will end up getting more then just a fat lip in some dark parking lot.
