Dido
Biography
The electronic pop chanteuse Dido entered London's Guildhall School of Music at age six; by the time she reached her teens, the budding musician had already mastered piano, violin, and recorder. After touring with a British classical ensemble, she accepted a publishing job. Meanwhile, she sang with a series of local groups before joining the trip-hop outfit Faithless -- helmed by her older brother, the noted DJ and producer Rollo -- in 1995. The group released its debut album, Reverence, the following year. It went on to sell over five million copies worldwide, and Dido parlayed her newfound success into a solo deal with Arista Records.
Dido's ethereal solo material combined elements of acoustic pop and electronica. She released her debut LP, No Angel, in mid-1999, and supported the release by joining the Lilith Fair tour that summer. However, her biggest break arrived in 2000, when rap superstar Eminem sampled one of her tracks, "Thank You," for the chorus of his hit single "Stan." The result was a surprisingly touching song, and demand for the Dido original quickly escalated. "Thank You" became a Top Five smash in early 2001, as did the accompanying No Angel, whose album sales topped 12 million copies worldwide by the time Dido returned to the spotlight two years later.
In September 2003, she released her long-awaited follow-up, Life for Rent. This sophomore effort was layered with personal hardship and heartbreak, marking some of Dido's more honest material yet. An eagerly anticipated record, it became one of the fastest-selling albums in U.K. history, quickly going multi-platinum at home while also moving several million copies in America. Following a world tour, Dido once again retreated from the public eye in 2005 to work on her third solo release. Safe Trip Home arrived in 2008, featuring collaborations with Brian Eno, Mick Fleetwood, and Citizen Cope. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

When Birds Fly said: 'More London lower class noise'
Her proper name is Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong. Hardly lower class old chap. |

I have life for rent. it is really good. my best friend and I love her music.
I think she forgot the "L" when she spelled the name for her band. It goes somewhere between I and do.
All kidding aside she has a unique voice and is really talented. |
it is a great song, even though Dido's not the greatest singer. My band has covered this tune, and our female lead vocalist smokes on this one ...
"Thank You" is a great song. Awesome singer. She's very pretty as well :>
Haha how can you even care about her enough to not like her? She barely even sings. She... talks, with music in the background. She's so boring she can't even suck.

Amen sister ackerbex3
Say it again, louder next time! Go in Peace....... Sister Christina |
And Ramon461, YOU obviously have never been in a relationship that you were determined to stick with until the very end, without ever giving up... If you had, you would understand 'WhiteFlag'
Maybe it's just a girl thing? |
Her voice is so ethereal - it sounds full of longing, even when she is singing a love song. Thank You is still my fave.
I absolutely love Dido's work. Life for Rent is her best album, in my opinion, but there are a few great songs on No Angel as well. However, I'm not particularly fond of her new album.

Dido is a great songwriter and singer. The tone of her voice is unique plus she is one of the three sexiest females on the planet...and I forget who the other two are. lol...this comment is cool.

'Here With Me' makes my stomach hurt, feeling the longing in her voice! I first heard it on the Love Actually soundtrack and all I can think of is the best man in love with Kiera Knightley's character. So sad! This is absolutely up there on my top five favorite songs ever... if not #1!
I am completly moved i cant express my connection to a wonderfal mind!!!!!!!! ! ,SHE #1 WITH ME!!!!!!.

White Flag is a very good song.
I happen to like her voice very much. She has a sort of soothing voice and her music is very calm. Wouldn't you agree? :) And yeah, I agree with Weezie. |
i agree with weezi like i think i always do :) but i do believe she is underated. i like her voice bc it isnt like overdone and it seems like she is staying w/ in her range bc i h8 it when people try to sing out of their range and it sounds terrible! like just stick to wut u can do. but i rlly love white flag.
I have to agree with Weezie on this one. I hate it when people can't come up with a good way to describe how much they like something. It seems a little disrespectfu l , don't you think?
And White flag is My favourite Dido song. Except for maybe Thank you, but that's for a different reason. That said, I love her music!! Yeah, I'm a hypocrite, so sue me. |

This song moves me. My tears are extra salty today. Damn holiday food!

Dido's voice is very ethereal, with a bit of the earth mixed in. I love it because it's got some of that sultry jazz to it, while remaining light. Seems that Dido's hit on a secret that all artists need to learn - don't make music just to make music. Make it because it moves you. Too many artists just put out new cds "for the fans." Seems that Dido does it for herself. Amazing. More artists need to learn that.

Man, does anyone have better things to say than "I love Dido, I love, I love" Wow...be a little creative people. I bet the next one will also be "I love something"
Dido, in my opinion, is very under-rated. Under-rated vocalist and under-rated songwriter. I actually think it's good that she doesn't release albums like every year or something. "White Flag" is a great song with solid lyrics. Simple and real. |
