Disturbed
Biography
Heavy metal band Disturbed came together through the matching of a band with a singer. Longtime friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family against which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed, and the band built up a following on Chicago's South Side before a demo tape led to their signing to Giant Records, which released their debut album, The Sickness, in March 2000. The band gained more fans and exposure playing the main stage of the 2001 Ozzfest, then breaking away to do their own self-described "victory lap" around the U.S. that fall. Also during this period, they managed to record a vicious new version of wrestler Steve Austin's theme song that was so good it managed to receive radio play, and they were one of the many bands announced to work on a high-profile Faith No More tribute album.
Disturbed stepped into the studio after stepping off of the road and began work on a new disc that would reflect their growth as a band. Feeling experimental, the bandmembers worked with producer Johnny K and mixer Andy Wallace in order to create an album that could compare to other classic metal records they admired. Amplifying their fondness for groups like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Soundgarden, Believe was released in the fall of 2002 and was recognized as a heavier, more varied, and ultimately superior record to their debut, ultimately reaching the top of the Billboard 200. After completing a tour to support the album, Fuzz left the band and was replaced by former Union Underground member John Moyer. The tour document Music as a Weapon II appeared in 2004, followed by the ambitious studio full-length Ten Thousand Fists in September 2005 and Indestructible in 2008. ~ William Ruhlmann & Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

"hobbit metal" was mentioned on the Godsmack page. but yeah, kinda funny. XD folk metal is cool, but I can't live off of hearing that alone.

yeah all u who listen to this is Disturbed. lol. just kiding. I guess im also disturbed then arent i
Ha haaa, "Forgive me father"! That's it exactly it!
I'm curious about your term "hobbit metal". Willow and others use it to mock folk metal. I've never found it insulting in the least tho. I'm just curious about your definition because I haven't seen any discussion on folk metal on this page recently, just references to Slayer and Black Sabboth. |
The LOL was towards OMW (sounded like a confession. "forgive me father, for I have sinned. I like Rhianna"), and the Cher comment was towards all you guys/gals in general who went from talking about how you like Hobbit Metal to talking about how you like Cher. I guess I should have specified the 'all of you' part of the message.
Anyone have any info on Disturbed? I'm too damn busy lately to go surfing the net too much. Pandora is about it for now. |
was your comment directed toward me, Focker?
you won't get any grief from me, Winter. some pop songs just somehow get to us... happens to me sometimes. |
I'm ashamed to admit I find 'Don't Stop The Music' by Rihanna mesmerizing.
So, do you like Cher because her stage outfits match your love for Hobbit metal?
back when I listened to the radio eons ago, I found to be tolerable. still is actually.
lol, you guys are funny... |
"Do you believe in life after love!?"
LOL. I enjoy some Cher when it comes on the radio... |
Yes, yes, we get it. Cher is the prettiest man you guys have ever seen.
Cher could Kick disturbed's a** in a bar fight.
David Draiman would drop his lemon drop martini, soil his baby blue silk undies and run crying to his BMW..... and then the next day feel "inspired" to write some....um.. . . . . " m e t a l " ? . . . . l o l . . . :) |
LOL...Cher.. . t h e only human being with a manlier voice than Cher is Johan Hegg.

dude!r u JUST now hearing about slayer? have u been locked in the attic with no source of communicatio n ? wtf.fuckn raw band though, but FUCKK man!

Disturbed is to metal as Green Day is to Punk.
Is Green Day Punk? What needs to be asked is how diluted to the original "core" of a genre is a band..... I would say Disturbed is metal, only because "metal" is now encompassing of so many versions and styles. Ultimately its good for the genre, even if horrible crap sandwich bands become popular..... n o t naming any PARTICULAR band(s) Oh by the way, theres this one band that is pretty good called Slayer, they have a new album out.... |
@Dirty Focker: LOL!
@OMW: The project I'm currently designing has columns that project both up and down from the ground plane. It's supposed to be a multi-layere d space with distinct characterist i c s on each layer, so projecting columns through all 4 layers was the best solution I could come up with to unifying all the spaces, while allowing them to remain unique. I only tend to read reviews until after I've determined how I feel about the artist. |
for me, it depends on the genre of music when it comes to reviewers. someone who makes an "omg, this is so hot so buy it now!" for popular rock or "Black Sabbath kiddies will love this junk" for metal are just worthless because the reviewer does NOT explain WHY it is good or not. reviewers often avoid discussing the quality of the music, often leaving a short review with a few sentences, or with a long ramble about one's personal life.
I have not found a good reviewer yet. I doubt I will. -_- |
I disagree with both of you actually.... R e v i e w e r s are actually Passionless Hippies who happen to get it right once or twice a month like a period but with less yelling..... . . . b y now youve realised i just like typing and you just like reading my s**t =)
+WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO THROW ROCKS IN GLASS HOUSES??+ +If your trapped in a glass house and you have a rock then by all means throw it!!!+ |
I disagree. Reviewers are people with a passion for and hopefully an understandin g of music. Whether they failed at it or not is beside the point. Also, you cannot succeed without failure.
Modern architecture is supremely unpractical. Why for the love of God would anyone build a building with a wall that protrudes past it's base? |
