Don Henley
Biography
Out of all of the Eagles, Don Henley had the most successful solo career. After the group initially broke up in 1982, Henley released his first solo album, I Can't Stand Still. Although it wasn't as successful as an Eagles record, the album performed respectably, launching the number three single "Dirty Laundry" and going gold. Building the Perfect Beast followed two years later and established Henley as a solo star in his own right. Featuring the Top Ten hits "Boys of Summer" and "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," as well as the Top 40 singles "Not Enough Love in the World" and "Sunset Grill," the album sold over two million copies and stayed on the charts for over a year. Henley's third album, 1989's The End of the Innocence, was his most ambitious record yet, as well as his most commercially successful. The album sold over three million copies and stayed on the charts for nearly three years, launching the hit singles "The End of the Innocence," "Heart of the Matter," "New York Minute," "How Bad Do You Want It?," and "The Last Worthless Evening."
Henley reunited with the Eagles in 1994, embarking on a worldwide tour. The group released a live album culled from an appearance on MTV Unplugged called Hell Freezes Over; the record also featured a handful of new studio tracks. Hell Freezes Over was a major success, selling over five million copies by the summer of 1995. However, the group opted to take another hiatus during the decade's latter half, and Henley continued working on his fourth solo album, finally issued in mid-2000 under the title Inside Job. He then resumed working with the Eagles, contributing to the band's new studio album (2007's multi-platinum effort Long Road Out of Eden) and touring heavily in support of the project. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

I've seen The Eagles 8 times and Don Henley about 12 times. Incredible.

I saw The Eagles in Jax and I must say that was an AMAZING concert. I really hope they tour some more. I LOVE them.

I saw Don Henley in Dallas about a year or so ago by himself and then again a little later again with the Eagles. I really like all of the Eagles but I think that the concert with Don by himself was equally enjoyable. He is a great performer and he has a wonderful voice. The only other performer that I've seen lately that I enjoyed more was Elton Johns Red Piano concert in Las Vegas.

I agree with Elizabeth, I've always thought he had one of the best voices ever.

Don Henley's songs on The End of the Innocence have such meaningful lyrics! I love Joe Walsh too but Don has an appeal that can't be beat! I got to see him in concert about 20 years ago and I still think back on that night as one of the best concerts I've been to. It helps that he's sexy as hell.

I think that bio missed the mark. I agree with "espband" in that Henley may have sold more albums, but Joe Walsh had a much larger fan base. Maybe that's what the guys at Allmusic were referring to, the fact that Henley made more successful albums. I guess that's what some people would consder success, but not me. To me music is in no way about how much money you make, it's about the level of respect you recieve for your ability to prodcuce good music. Which Henley did okay, but I prefer Joe lol

Joe Walsh did have a better career, but Henley has to have sold more albums, I would think.
With or without the Eagles (who ROCK, by the way), Don Henley is a terrific artist.
I disagree with this writeup. Joe Walsh had a better solo career. Maybe it should read, "out of the original Eagles lineup, Don Henley had the ..."

A gifted artist who could write music very well.I admire musicians who can play the drums while they sing. The Eagles are one of many of my all-time favorite bands.Yet,He n l e y made his mark doin it on his own.He has too many songs that hit the charts. It was probably underrated,b u t I think The garden of Allah should have been ranked up there.

I guess genius can, on occasion, be torture for everyone surrounding it. I'm sure there are two sides to Don Felder's story, but his perception is his reality. It's likely the Eagles have a different story, but since I haven't read the book yet, I can't really comment on that. I don't doubt that Don Henley could be hard to live with. We all are at times. That doesn't diminish the music, only the man. It's only my perception, but it seems that he has mellowed a bit with maturity.

Read Heaven and Hell by Don Felder who got uncerimoniou s l y booted from the Eagles; Henley's music is great but is definitely matched by his ego even if only half of what Felder says in his book is accurate.
If he ever sang "Taking You Home" to me, I'd follow him anywhere! I can't imagine a more amazing tribute to a woman. That's a wonderful song, Don. Love it!
Between Henley and Frey...there is no question Don wins hands down. His solo work is incredible and really tells it the way it is in his solo songs and The Eagles songs especially "Get Over It!"

.....glenn frey was the initial spark behind Eagles, but really believe henley is/was the soul of this band...and he must have practiced the precept of this song (forgiveness ) alot.
how can u not stand his music???
its OWESOME!!!!! ! ! ! ! HE IS THE BESSSSSSSSST T T T ! |
One of the true "Greats". Henley is 'the man." There is only one and he's it! Sing it white boy!
I have all of his albums, all of the Eagles albums and all the members, solo albums. I adore Don Henley and if I were young enough (not that I'm old), to have children, I would allow him to be the father of said children. Hes a SEXY BEAST.
I have his THE END OF INNOCENCE... I have just about listened that thing into the ground. Every cut is good.
Don and the Eagles are just terrific in their own way. His voice is great! Can't down this guy and his career.
Out of all the guys who went solo in the big rock bands of the 70's I think this guy has had the best career, and the best music.... "the end of the innocence is a tremendous record
Love his voice, "Best of my Love" is my all time favorite song.
Lisa Wilson |
Love his voice and his work with the Eagles as well as what he did for Waldon Woods (I'm a HS English Teacher and I use some of the eagles songs when I am teaching Whitman
If he were runing for president ( he has more sense than that) I would vote again...and again...and again...

Any tours during the summer? Come to Myrtle Beach, SC. Play some golf; enjoy a different ocean. See the sun rise rather than set.
