Dwele
Biography
Neo-soul singer/songwriter/producer Dwele grew up on Detroit's west side, listening to soul music from Motown visionaries Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye as well as jazz on the radio. Born Andwele Gardner, he began writing songs at the age of ten, after his father was murdered outside his home, and attended Cody High in Detroit. Dwele spent a year studying music at Wayne State but then opted for an informal education, making music at his home while living in Dearborn and working for AAA. His demo tape, 1998's The Rize, made waves around the Motor City, and he spent time collaborating with Detroit hip-hop group Slum Village and Philadelphia rapper Bahamadia. Signed to Virgin on the strength of his songwriting and performance skills, Dwele released Subject in mid-2003 and cemented his appeal with European audiences (he was a favorite on Gilles Peterson's influential Radio 1 program) with a tour that summer. His second album, Some Kinda, followed in 2005. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Does anyone know the name and which album his song "Everybody wants to rule the world" sampled from Tears for Fears song from the '80's. I can't find it anywhere and it's HOT!
I totally agree with shantia.smit h . Dwele does not get the publicity that he so much deserves. I currently live in the metro Detroit area and they do not even play him on the radio that much. I have all of his cds and love them all. Very talented young man!!!

Dwele is the soulful side of Detroit music!!! Keep repping the 313 with good music along with Kemistry....
He is great I have both his albums. Since D'Angelo cannot get his act together and make some music for his fans (no new music since 1999) Dwelen is a great replacement.
Love Dwele! He can do no wrong!!!!!! Yearnin for another album......
My sister turned me on to him in '03. He only has 2 solo albums out but you hear him all over other projects with Slum Village and Little Brother. He has a distinctive, lovely voice that I am always pleased 2 hear.
I think this man should get way more recognition than he does...he is awesome and so creative.
I absolutely, u n d e n i a b l y love Dwele's music. He is so smooth, R & B with Neo-Soul and Jazz all rolled into a masterful depiction of Black life & love through well- written songs. Keep up the good work - the world will soon recognize his genius!!
this is real music, continue your thing and keep it real. From brother to brother
i really like his smooth neo-soul feel. He is a true mix of the here and now!! His melody reminds you just as much of Donny Hathaway and Brian McKnight the way he writes his own stuff and put it together so well! I definitely agree with Luismoore! This is the type of stuff that needs to get radio play!!!
this brotha makes everything he touches turns to a hit. his solo joint, his work with slum village. he even has a nice joint with boney james on the jazz tip.
