Dwele
Biography
Neo-soul singer/songwriter/producer Dwele grew up on Detroit's west side, listening to soul music from Motown visionaries Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye as well as jazz on the radio. Born Andwele Gardner, he began writing songs at the age of ten, after his father was murdered outside his home, and attended Cody High in Detroit. Dwele spent a year studying music at Wayne State but then opted for an informal education, making music at his home while living in Dearborn and working for AAA. His demo tape, 1998's The Rize, made waves around the Motor City, and he spent time collaborating with Detroit hip-hop group Slum Village and Philadelphia rapper Bahamadia. Signed to Virgin on the strength of his songwriting and performance skills, Dwele released Subject in mid-2003 and cemented his appeal with European audiences (he was a favorite on Gilles Peterson's influential Radio 1 program) with a tour that summer. His second album, Some Kinda, followed in 2005. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Dwele voice and music (some kinda) is soooo soulful and this artist should be played more often on the radio circuit. I truly enjoyed his music this morning. It just goes to show you there are artist out there that we would have never heard of it wasn’t for Pandora music mixes. Bilal is another artist I was introduced to through Pandora that I truly enjoy and listen too! Thanks Pandora, keep listen people!

Dwele is on that smooth neo-soul old school R&B thang. Too smooth to be mainstream like most of the R&B pop dudes of today.

Dwele is my favorite artist by far. He sings the kind of music I want to listen to. There aren't many artists out there like him. It's so mellow and smooth and I love it!

||
I've saw Dwele perform last night at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA. I love his cool laid back grooves, great interaction with the crowd and melloow demeanor. He definitely does not get the credit he deserves.... Keep the music coming Dwele!!!

I have all 3 albums and he's one of the few artists that you can listen to without skipping to the next track. I was so happy seeing his Mickey D commercials but he definitely does not get the credit he deserves. I'm going to see him live for the first time next week and cannot wait!!! DWELE KEEP THE GOOD MUSIC COMIN!!!!!!

I've seen Dwele perform a few times, most recently at the House of Blues in Houston, TX. Wow. I love his cool, calm, and collected demeanor, and the WAY he says what he says. I'm always mesmerized. His music is on the real. I don't think he gets anywhere near the credit he deserves!
