Earshot
Biography
Earshot is Tool-inspired metal outfit that performs a similar blend of moody heavy metal. The group formed in 1999 out of vocalist/guitarist Will Martin, guitarist Mike Callahan, guitarist Scott Kohler, and drummer Dieter Hartmann. The foursome signed to Warner Bros. after the label heard their melodic metal and entered the studio with producer David Kahne. After the recording session, the record was polished up by mixer Andy Wallace and released in the summer of 2002 as Letting Go. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

I don't see how anyone can argue about "Get Away," admittedly the only song I've heard from them thusfar, sounding like Tool. Is that good or bad? It's subjective. Personally not much of a Tool fan.

great band like nearly all there songs jut a few i dont like but great keep it commin

I thought these guys broke up after "Two" came out b/c the label dropped them? Glad to see them with another album tho!
I agree; who cares who they sound like? You don't need to throw insults at somebody over who you think a band sounds like. It's not worth it. It doesn't do anything except make you seem foolish.
kathy stringer, you obviously have never heard tool. You are not the shapest "tool" in the shed.

Would not call this Tool inspired. We thought it was something new from Staind

Anything that touches Tool brings out the crazies. I'm a drummer that has been influenced (inspired is a better word) to some small extent by Dan Carrey ... but I would never list Tool or Dan as influences because of the F5 s**t storm Tool fans would whip up. ... Damn fanatics ... I really enjoy Earshot, and I hear the vocal influences of Tool, but it's only proper that Tool is not on the "like artists" tab. Earshot is truly nothing like Tool ... thank God we only have one Maynard.

only some of the songs sound them, not all btw. ive herd a couple that tthe first time i herd them i thought it was tool. Have yall herd Ashes Divide? they are very simular.
this is funny to me because when i tell people about this band.. just as i did today..i saw its a combo of tool and 30seconds to mars. my oppinion and im entitled to think it. I love this band either way.
Its really not debatable that TOOL is a huge influence of earshot's, Me and Will are both from the same Kansas area as Danny Carrey (Tool's Drummer) so we both have been superfans since the 'Green Jelly' days and it's only right that he did modify his voice and musical preference to that of TOOL. Their songwriting subjects and style is totally different than that of Tool, their first 2 albums had a few good songs but 'Silver lining' is just garbage, its bland and boring.
Funny, everyone compars this group to Tool, yet Tool is not on the similar artists tab for this band....
I would never compare Earshot with Tool when explaining the sound these two bands give their listeners. I imagine anyone who does has only heard one or two songs from either group seven years ago. Definately an underrated band that should have gotten more play time.
This band is freaggin awesome. Definite thumbs up on my station. =)))
damn.. someone cooked popcorn and now the office reaks of butter.... good lord. |
Earshot is awesome and they have some "tool" tendencies but they are a original band with there own sound and they absolutely kick a** live, highly recommend getting their albums if you don't have any.
he don't sound like maynard to me. i like tool, i like earshot, but not because i think their similar.
The Silver Lining is great. Tool-inspire d ? Maybe, but I wouldn't have thought Tool until I saw the notes above. Love the music for what it is, not what it is being compared to.
Well, he's mastered the cloning of Maynard's voice... at least the early vox of Maynard.
Like these guys? try Ashes divide. They are equally as enjoyable. Friend of mine turned me on to them I thought it was earshot when I first herd them. Plant their seed and try them out. Let me know what ya think.
They sound like tool but their music lacks the meaning and artistry of tool songs
latest album was a complete masterpiece. and well I prefer these guys over tool.
I didn't even know the new album was out, thought their second was really good, underra t e d band.As far as the Tool comparisons, n o chance.
they are good i'm going to need someone similar to tool to listen to cause apc have broken up and takes tool yo long to come out with a new cd so they are my bench players coming of the bench lol!
I'm feeling a mix of Tool and Filter more than all Tool.
but it is certainly not original. |
Not sure about them being a TOOL wanna be band. I have seen both of them in concert and no one compares to TOOL. There music is so intricate, there is a million different moods and tones going on. They are a one of kind and Maynard has one foot in the house of genious and the other in the nut house. I do agree there is some cookie cutter rock going on. Earshot needs to inject some passion and furry into the music. Maybe they are too happy? Nothing makes good music like a good depression and a li

This is the corporate rock that makes rock music fall off the scene. Is it that hard to be original these days? I will be surprised if these guys ever make a another CD. They are not even close to the skills of TOOL, but they sure do try.

Earshot is a pretty good band. Wil is an awesome singer and songwriter. They also deliver live, I saw them with Korn back in '02 and they were good. Their main flaw is that they sound so much like TOOL its rediculous. They should have figured out a way to come up with songs and mixes that separate them from the rest of the TOOL wannabes like Acroma and many other style biters. I just listened to Earshots upcoming single and its just another TOOL b-side. Too bad good band just no creativity.

This band is good, all comparisons aside they have a lot of talent. I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.
