Edguy
Biography
Edguy is a neo-classical metal band from Germany. Featuring Tobias Sammet on vocals and bass, Jens Ludwig and Dirk Sauer on guitar, and Felix Bohnke, they released their first album, Kingdom of Madness, in 1997 when all members were still in their teens. This album is good, but inconsistent. In 1998, their second album, Vain Glory Opera, took a big step forward, featuring much better and more consistent songwriting. 1999's Theater of Salvation is the band's first great album. It has consistently great songs, better vocals, and lusher production. Tobias Exxel was added on bass for the Theater of Salvation album. ~ David White, All Music Guide

Edguy is simply amazing..... Hellfire Club is easily their best album!

I havent given this band very much attention . I know now I will be in the future.
A couple of the songs I love, such as King of Fools, but most of them... bore me. Odd, given that I can't find anything I DON'T like about them.

As for their sound (since the bio neglects this), up through the Mandrake album, Edguy were fairly consistently straight melodic power metal with hints of progressiven e s s here and there. On the Hellfire Club album they experiemente d with a heavier tone and added a bit of thrashiness to their sound. Then starting with Rocket Ride, the band reversed directions and began to go in more of a mainstream hard rock direction. Their newest album, Tinnitus Sanctus has continued in that direction.

What a horrible band bio. Not only is it devoid of any useful information, but it says that Kingdom of Madness was their first album, which is untrue. Madness was their major label debut, but Savage Poetry was their first proper album. The re-recorded version of Savage Poetry is possibly their best album (so naturally Pandora omits it...).

meh, ive only heard one that ive liked, one other that was okay. the rest are just...meh

@Plague: uninspired ... boring, potaato ... potawto.
@Matthew: Been there ... done that. Eventually you will see the light, as I did. It just doesn't have any grip or power ... and what is "power metal" with no power?? I ask you. |
The jury is still out on whether they will remain a part of my station, but from what I've heard so far they aren't boring me or being extremely irritating, so that's looking up then.
Uninspired music results in boring music.
At least for me it does. Or maybe they are inspired...a n d the result was just boring. |
This is some of the most boring power metal I've ever listened to.
Yaaaaaaaaayy y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y powermetal :)
This is really good...but what power metal isn't |
I like it! European Metal is usually good in general, i hope to hear more.
I listened to this band for a few weeks in indecision. Finally had to pull the plug.

EDGUY is really, really good stuff; I am really starting to warm up to ANGRA from Brazil. Man, some their s**t is good!!!
If it wasn't for kick a** music, not sure where I would be!!! |
Edguy has amazing vocal melodies and great rhythm, which is why I like them. But they could be so much better if they put more detail into their music, like Dragonforce or Kamelot; they should find a keyboardist and they could also do alot more with the guitars to make their insturmental section sound as good as the vocals.
And yeah, Tobias sounds a hell of a lot like Dickenson. I wondered I was the only one that thought so at first... |

Do not believe the Plague of Unicorns! Avantasia's Metal Opera I & II are rich in the fantasy element (read the lyrics to them, it's a good story), and the music is great! You want the definition of great power metal: "The Final Sacrifice" by Avantasia is as good as any, if not, better.
While I can't say much in the favor of Edguy, Avantasia is definitely defensible. |

ca27smith, the first quote is referring to one album, the second to another.
"This album is good, but inconsistent . " ; "It has consistently great songs, better vocals, and lusher production."
Umm this white guy is dumb. |
In general, they sound similar, I guess...but when your comparing power(ish) metal singers, The two sound so different imo.
Actually, Sammet has *less* control than Dickinson. Still AWESOME though.
the description isn't very good. It seems to be more about the albums than the band.
Sounds so much like Iron Maiden mixed with Megadeth.
Yeah, the vibrato got to me at first, but now I'm used to it, it's all good. Funny too. Good comments, folks.
I love this artist but Pandora seriously need to put on thier new album "Tinnutus Sanctus"
Wow, I love how edguy has such awesome metal, while still managing to keep it light-hearte d
Under The Moon FTW! |
Guys are powerful, full of Fire, and can play some complicated pieces.
What's the name of that song on Hellfire Club...? "Under the Moon"? Someone needs to cut famous scenes from well-known Werewolf movies to it. If no one does, you can bet I'll give it a try sometime. Despite all my attempts to the contrary, I can't get Edguy to play on my station more than once an hour or so, making my analysis slow as well as interrupted. Oh well.
