Elvenking
Biography
Following in the pixie boots of England's Skyclad, Finland's Finntroll, and several other such strange creatures, Italy's Elvenking unite the disparate worlds of heavy metal and acoustic folk music underneath lyrics spinning mystical yarns steeped in both legend and imagination. Founded in 1997 by guitarists Aydan and Jarpen, the group soon added vocalists Damnagoras and Kleid, keyboardist/violinist Elyghen, bassist Gorlan, and drummer Zender (how about those stage names?) for the recording of 2001's Heathenreel and 2004's Wyrd -- both of them released by German label AFM. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

I always like how their songs always have so much goin on in them at once, makes them fun to listen to again and agian and again.

Yeah Elvenking is just THAT awesome, that it also got me to start taking metal as a whole more seriously, where folk metal remains my favorite... Funny though that anyone I mention it to locally is like, "FOLK metal?!?!?!"
Elvenking, and by extension the folk metal genre as a whole, may very well be a sort of 'gateway' for my non-metal enthusiast sister - it was somewhat of a surprise to her when she mentioned she liked the song I was playing and I told her it was an Italian folk metal band. Huzzah for subverting preconceptio n s !
yea ive heard that Tuomas has already started writing for NW's next album
Is "Dragonforce " or "Nightwish" recording again. Can you keep posted?
Not liking the vocal style so far, but they get points for having what seems to be a fiddle in their music.
Thank you, OMW! Seasonspeech is also great!
seasonspeech just came on, first song by them ive heard, it was reallllly awesome!! liked all the differnt vocal parts
Wow, you're right Swan. Conjuring has a very interesting sound indeed.
I honestly had no idea that there was even 1 group that combined folk music with metal prior to Pandora - that there's an entire folk-metal genre is even more surprising (and welcome!). Of the stuff I've heard so far, most of it is very hit and miss but Elvenking has been consistently good.
Okay, "Conjuring the 14th," has a very different sound for Elvenking. I like it!
Without Pandora I wouldve never known the glory of folk-metal. just awesome!!!
Break out the banjo and distotion. |
I really dug their earlier stuff, but listened to the Scythe and thought it was not very folk metal, and a big let-down. Hopefully their '08 release was a return to form...
there 2008 album is there best in alot of ways. its not on here but its good. lighter and softer more medolic. but mostly acustic. pandora, you could really use it. its called "two tragedy poets and caravan of weird figures".
JWAlley2: I think their newest release does go back to that sound. I havent heard it, but I believe its all acoustic, too.
As much as I liked the newer sound in The Scythe, I hope they do more with the semi-celtic sound they had in Wyrd and Heathenreel.
Agreed. It's been a long time sinse I've found a band I like as much as them.
Elvenking is the sick nastiest band ever. The combination of violin and guitar is insane. Like the vocals also
To me, they kind of sound like a cross between Rhapsody and Nevermore. So, if you like this band, check those other two out.
This band is amazing the 1st time I listened to then i sware i died and came back an evil mastermind.
Beastly band, hands down. I love the mix of folk and rock especially the violin usage. It just sounds so amazing when it is all put together.
