Eyedea & Abilities
Biography
Before Eyedea & Abilities were an MC/DJ pair, they were Mike Averill and Gregory "Max" Keltgen, two friends from Minneapolis. In 1997, however, while still in high school, the duo began competing in the battle circuit, gaining recognition from high-profile wins at 1999's Scribble Jam and the 2000 HBO-televised Blaze-Battle World Championships, among others. Despite rumors of possible deals with Puff Daddy or Eminem, Eyedea & Abilities chose to sign with fellow Minnesotans Rhymesayers, and released their debut album, First Born, in 2001. A departure from the battle raps they had previously done, First Born was an introspective concept album musing about the state of hip-hop and life. Because both Eyedea & Abilities were involved in other projects (Oliver Hart and the Micranots, respectively), their second album, E&A, didn't come out until 2004. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

im just throwing this out there but "by the throat" e&a's new album is an utterly horrible and misguided attempt at a comeback. i will never purchase another rhymesayers album...exce p t for bro ali. def jux is running the underground game as far as im concerned

Keep an eye out for Christoph Crane. If you like EA, he has alot of eyedea-esque qualities. The kid was at soundset this year, he didnt get the heads moving like he really could of, but he's still coming out of the shell.

Dont f**k with eyedea, or abilities. They'll s**t on pretty much any of your "Rappers" btw, anything thats on the radio (atleast in MN) is NOT Hip-Hop, no matter what the MC says, it isnt. It's mainstream crap. You want good hip-hop, this is it. F**k T.I.

Is it just me or does ajshrews have a bit of a douche bag streak to him?
I really don't see what them being white has to do with anything. Thats just ignorant. Expand your mind brah.
ajshrews you need to slow your roll man, hip hop is about expression and creativity combining the elements of rhythmic lyrics and dope beats originally mashed together from disco records. so hip hop is what you make it, and if you can't stand some actually dope white boys from the mid-west that can blow you out of the water any day of the week then you have totally missed the point of music all together.
creative and poetic lyrics. sick beats. def one of the hotter backpack rap groups |
Josh, man. Totally agree with you. Gift of Gab is my favorite rapper but I like Mos Def, Slug and these guys as well! Eyedea & Abilities are sick, check em out!
my 1st hip-hop love was 1st Born. I wish society was in such a state that it would support the proliferatio n of legitimate lyricists like Eyedea, as well as other artists such as Gift of Gab, Mos Def, and Slug, etc.
Eyedea has to be the BEST freestyler that I've EVER heard! I could be wrong though...
These dudes are the real thing. Listen to any track on First Born. Intelligent Urban Poetry, not just lyrics. E&A has a more battle rap feel to it. the Midwest is the new hotbed for indie hip hop...These guys and the rest of the Rhymesayers Ent. crew are provin it.
Dude HEll ya this s**t fucken rocks! We need more hip-hop like this instead of all that s**t on the radio now days
please refrain from screaming this evening / even though it may ease the pain you're recieving when i squeeze that brain/ mayday mayday / they say it's the quiet one's you gotta look out for / don't you know pushing big words through a little hole will leave your mouth tore...eyede a is the s**t. Rhymesayers, big dicks.
