Fall Out Boy
Biography
The four members of Chicago's Fall Out Boy came together in suburban Wilmette around 2001. Vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman had all been in and out of various units connected to Chicago's underground hardcore scene. Most notably, Hurley drummed for Racetraitor, the furiously political metalcore outfit whose brief output was both a rallying point and sticking point within the hardcore community. As Fall Out Boy, the quartet used the unbridled intensity of hardcore as a foundation for melody-drenched pop-punk with a heavy debt to the emo scene. They debuted with a self-released demo in 2001, following it up in May 2002 with a split LP on Uprising that also featured Project Rocket (for which Hurley also drummed). The band returned on the label in January with the mini-LP Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girl, but by this point a bidding war of sorts was already in full swing.
Fall Out Boy eventually signed a deal with Gainesville, FL's Fueled by Ramen, the label co-owned by Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie Fiorello, but also received an advance from Island Records to record their proper debut. The advance came with a right of first refusal for Island on Fall Out Boy's next album, but it also financed the recording of Take This to Your Grave, which occurred at Butch Vig's Smart Studios compound in Madison, WI, with Sean O'Keefe (Lucky Boys Confusion, Motion City Soundtrack) at the helm. Take This to Your Grave appeared in May 2003, and Fall Out Boy garnered positive reviews for their gigs at South by Southwest and numerous tour appearances. Their breakout album, the ambitious From Under the Cork Tree, followed in spring 2005, quickly reaching the Top Ten of Billboard's album chart and spawning two Top Ten hits with "Sugar We're Going Down" and the furiously upbeat "Dance, Dance." The album went double platinum, and earned the guys a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
Fall Out Boy's star status in the underground -- driven by the especially extroverted Wentz, who also gained exposure with his clothing line and Decaydance imprint (of Fueled by Ramen) -- had boiled over into the mainstream. They toured extensively behind the album, both at home and abroad, including spring 2006 arena dates, in addition to appearing on TRL, late-night television, and music award shows. Without taking a break, the guys eventually hunkered down to work on their follow-up record with From Under the Cork Tree producer Neil Avron and, somewhat surprisingly, Babyface. Infinity on High, whose title was taken from a line in one of Van Gogh's personal letters, appeared in early February 2007, spearheaded by the hit single "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race." The album continued Fall Out Boy's streak, debuting at number one on the Billboard charts and going platinum about a month later. Released one year later, the CD/DVD package Live in Phoenix documented the band's strength as a flashy live act. ~ Johnny Loftus & Corey Apar, All Music Guide

Little bitchboy is right though. This aint a scene, it's a cell phone commercial. But no really, I shouldn't be mad about all the real outlaw, underground, rebellious, revolutionar y musicians in the world being quietly snuffed out by the FCC and our government to make way for softserve, spineless pussyrock musicians like these guys. I should just take it in stride and stop thinking and chewing and spelling for myself all together. Seems to work for most of you doesn't it?

You wanna know why bands like Falloutta the Closet Boy don't post comments about people they despise? Because they make enough money to hide the spite they have for the people who make the choice not to buy into their bullcrap, because guess what? There's enough retards out there buying in to keep them in fine toilet paper made from your money, and the finest silken fashions from Whogivesashi t France.
I'll pass.
I kind of half-a** listen to them if I stumble on them on the radio. But there's better options if you're on Pandora. Everyone freaking out at each other on Pandora needs to chill though. What's the point of getting so worked up? |
if you want to rag on a band do it somewhere else.
we like this band. that's why we're on their page. get over yourselves! |
That Snake feller is a real smart feller, I-tell-you-w h a t .
Full Out F*gs...The worst band ever. What do you expect from f*gs though...Jus t about what they deliver. NO decent lyrics. They are the most emo band i have ever heard in my life...they cut each others c**k off and shove it up there butt.
I actually like most of their songs. My bff, on the other hand, she only likes them 4 Pete Wentz.
Great band!! Something for everyone to like. My dad likes a couple of their songs.
these guyswould be good if they weren't emo but since they aren't punk they're GAY
very over-rated, but i have to admit they do sound good...swell actually! lol.
this band rocks. it makes my simple plan station a little more on the punk side
So what if they're not the best, I love them!!!! Their songs are easy 2 memorize also!!! O.o
I'm a tad bit upset that a song from this band played on my Streetlight Manifesto/Rx Bandits station. This band shows no ska-like qualities, nor any true musical ability. Maybe I'm being harsh, but when you listen to super-compos e d songs ranging from Led Zeppelin & Andy McKee to Streetlight Manifesto & Rx Bandits, you tend to frown upon bands that don't have any real skill. Thank you for wasting my time. Fall Out Boy was at a show I attended months back, and all I can say is two words: EAR PLUGS
they rock my socks right off my feet. people say im crazy, but im just bored.
to say a band sold out is too assume that they owe YOU something then they owe nothing to no one but themselves. we as normal people don't owe our dreams to anyone else so why should they? get over it, they have amazing music that is unique, clever and fun and should be taken for what it is, entertainmen t . remember, they owe you nothing, you want to support them great, if not shut up and go away but please stop trying to tear them down because you got your little nanny hurt.
...{contn'd} if your in for the music, then who cares what someone says about "your" band if you truly do like their music then you will listen to them no matter what other kids say...
actually there music, although isnt necesarily horrible, it isn't anything new, its all been done. twice. what the usic lfestyle needs, thats right because music isnt just a scene, is never before heard sound, if you want something truly original you should try out bands like, Streetlight Manifesto, or Dropkick Murphys. like i said i dont hate FoB it isnt thr greatest stuff there is. remember Fallout Boy is JUST A BAND!! so stop being all selfrighteou s about this stuff alright... {Contn'd}
omg. get over it. Why not listen to the music for once people!!! i am ttly with grr on this one. seriously? who cares what the bassist does if they make great music. If u were pete, you would enjoy the spotlight too, why the heck not. If he wants to date celebs, more power to him! not many guys can get away with that. lol. plus we all know he is just adorible, so move on.
why do you all say they sold out? so they changed there music style a LITTLE BIT! they still have the same unique vocalizing style and the same if not better skill at the rest of the instruments. i personally dislike people who dislike a band because of how a band member acts, its about the music you small minded douche-bags.
well pete sux simple plan and the all-american rejects are better pete sux!!!!!!!!
Does not sound at all like RANCID so this band should be taken off its "similars" list. fob SUX!
i loved their old stuff, now they need alot of work, i think that pete got all caught up in the fame and messed up fall out boy,and now they are totally going down the drain and unfortunatel y they are taking P!atd with them:( but i still think that andy, patrick and joe are awsome
agreed, Petey is a poser!but on the opposite end theres Patrick <3 Yaa......... . . . . . : )
i totally agree but w/o him then they arent completely FOB and i dont want that to happen i love PATRICK more than anyone can/could imagine okay and like yeah by...
