Fernando Ortega
Biography
Classically trained as a pianist but also steeped in the Hispanic tradition of his New Mexico homeland, gospel singer/songwriter Fernando Ortega recorded more than a half-dozen LPs for various labels before signing to Myrrh/Word in 1997, as part of a Christian musical renaissance which saw a variety of musical traditions entering the liturgies of mainline churches. An aficionado of American and Irish folk as well as the Spanish-oriented music he grew up with, Ortega also studied early music and hymns as part of his education. He recorded on his own for several years before signing to Myrrh, and worked with producer John Andrew Schreiner for his major-label debut, 1998's This Bright Hour. Home followed two years later. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

WOW! Awesome, all you have to do is close your eyes and drift away in deep loving meditation. How grateful I am that the Father has allowed me to experience the wonderful gifts He has deposited in His children. Encore!

Just when I needed a good Christian song, complete with uplifting lyrics. Thanks!

hcjjr, to answer your question, most of Fernando's albums have about 80% singing. He also has some purely instrumental albums, like Meditations Of The Heart. My wife and I had one of his instrumental albums (on cassette) given to us for a wedding gift in 1994, and didn't realize it was Fernando until hearing it come up on Pandora last year. We found the cassette and his name was in small print inside the cover. We had built quite a collection of other Fernando music by then!

I hadn't heard of Fernando Ortega until I heard the song "Give Me Jesus" on WMIT 106.9 in Black Mt. NC. I thought....h o w simple and how beautiful. I understand that this song was one of Ruth Graham's favorites and they brought him to Charlotte to film him playing it for her the televised memorial of her life. What a minisitry this man has!

It's so refreshing to see a mainstream Christian artist recording and singing classic hymns!

I have listened to Fernando for about 7 years now, saw him at Coral Ridge in Ft.Lauderdal e and it truly was a blessing to see him play the piano. His love of the hymns keeps me listening. He always sings unreservedly about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and makes it clear who he is singing to and for. I am a true blessed fan but hold only Christ in awe and thank my Lord for singers such as Fernando. A grateful listener. Judith

Fernando is a singer and musician whos music is a true reflection of His walk with the Messiah, Jesus. He reminds the follower of The Way. His Quiet , gentle style gives the listener a taste of Home. Even if your home was not a very good place, you can listen to Fernando's songs and you just feel sure you would be welcome to sit down at a family gathering or drop by unannounced for a cup of coffee and some kind words. This is the True Spirit of Christ.Love. M e r c y . F o r g i v n e s s . G e n t l e n e s s . F a m i l y . F r i e

this music is absolutly briliant. it is so wonderful to see talented musicians using their ability to sing praises to God. I so much enjoy the rich quality of his music. Because it is not centered around a heavy beat i am more apt to listen to each note. His transitions of hymns are very original but at the same time very appropriate. well done.

We LOVE MEXICO and MEXICANS.... W e have worked for 40 years as part time missionaries to Mexico. Fernando is typical of the ability many Mexicans have. Thank you SO MUCH for introducing him to us. I am a piano/organ teacher so I also appreciate his ability. In His Name, Fern McClain

Beautiful voice and I really like the old time songs like this one. He is outstanding!

I had been asking Pandora to add Fernando Ortega to the playlist for months and gave up! Unexpectedly , he appeared on one of my stations and my wife asked, "who is this?" (We both love his music.) This is a fantastic addition -- one of the greatest folk artists and hymn writers of our time. Fernando's depth of lyric and acoustic musical talent go straight to the heart. My station based on Fernando is the first one I've never wanted to thumbs up, thumbs down, or add more. It's just right as is.
