Fourplay
Biography
This all-star group -- comprised of keyboardist Bob James, guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist Nathan East, and drummer Harvey Mason -- was formed in 1991 after the quartet came together on part of James' Grand Piano Canyon album. They have since recorded a number of CDs for Warner Bros. that have all been big sellers, not surprising considering the popularity of James and Ritenour. Larry Carlton took over the guitarist's spot in the late '90s, first appearing in Fourplay on the band's successful 1998 album, 4. The group's music borders on jazz with some strong improvisations mixed in with large doses of pop and R&B. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

The Best Of Fourplay
1991
tjtaylor, Ihave been listening to FourPlay for years both as indivdual artist and as a group. They seem to get better as time goes by. I am new to Pandora Radio and am so glad that I found this site. The work day goes just a little smoother and the days are a little sweeter. Jazz music washes the dust from my day.

Once upon a time I heard this group, actually it was there first CD, knowing all of the musicians prior to the making of this CD, I was eager to hear the sound as well as the music. The rest as they say is history...As a former night club disc jockey and a on air jock w/a jazz program,I emediately gravitated to this group know as FOURPLAY. KHYS FM HOUSTON TX Jonjay

classic veterans of smooth jazz, the best. These guys together have at least 100 years of experience or more in jazz music alone, and it shows in every track that they record. These guys are truly vintage artist when they come together as the group Four Play, as well as when they record as solo artist.

I became a fan of Bob James when I heard his "Touchdown" release in the late 1970's and became a fan of Fourplay when the band released its self-titled CD in 1991.
Top notch music by top notch musicians. Neil |

That kind of ironic that the group's name is "Fourplay". That's an interesting choice.

These guys are as smooth as it gets. Their experience and class shine through on every track.
