Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush
Biography
Frank Marino was born in Canada in 1954. He began playing guitar at the age of 13 after having played drums for three years. Very soon after changing instruments, Marino had formed his band Mahogany Rush. By 1971, three years later, the group had developed quite a following. At the age of 17, his first album, MAXOOM, was released and the group quickly started generating a larger and larger following and more albums. In all, by the year 2001, Marino had released 11 albums with Mahogany Rush. He also did two solo albums, 1986's Full Circle, and From the Hip, which came out in 1991. Adding to his credits are also appearances on recordings by April Wine and Brian Lee. ~ Gary Hill, All Music Guide

I saw Frank at the House of Blues in Chicago a few years back...It was non stop amazing guitar work! I've always been a big fan of his and still can't figure out why he never got any recognition. He's truly a great guitarist!!! I'm hoping he comes out with another studio album...I'd also like to see digitally remastered versions of "What's Next" and "Power of Rock and Roll"

In 2001 I think, I heard on the radio that Frank Marino & M. R. was going to be appearing at one of the local clubs here in Louisville KY. It was one of the biggest wastes of talent I've ever seen. Frank played a THREE HOUR non stop show that absolutely awed me.. I knew I was witnessing a friggin legend and would probably never see the likes of again. Sad thing was, there were probably no more than fifty people there. This town is totally rock & roll ignorant.

I was lucky to see Frank and M.R. in 1978 at the Fox theater Atl. Ga. the man blew everyone away, at the end of Johnny B Goode the crowd stood in silence for a few seconds still trying to soak in all that had just happened then bust out into applause. One of the greatest rock moments of my life.

Frank Marino is one of the living symbols of a music revolution that will never cease to be...

Frank Marino is probably one of the most under appreciated guitarists out there. Listen to the 1977 live album (in it's enirety)and it will change your world.

I have not been able to find any of his music on CD. Of course my 8 track of his live album is long gone. I saw him in the late 70,s in Jax Fl. We used to cruise to a little song called Dragon Fly. Awesome

Frank Marino is alive and well like you would not believe! Saw Frank a few times in the mid-to-late 70s and early 80s. Absolutely the most underrated guitarist on the planet because he has done so much and gotten no acclaim, no attention. Saw him last year...the man has lost nothing! He sounds as if it is 1977... You could just about say he sounds even better! That is what 31 years of practice will do for you!!! But, seriously, check him out! Support this man!

So hard to find in regular music stores! Why do mainstream rock radio stations NEVER play his stuff??? He's one of my old favorites along with Deep Purple and Rainbow.

Saw this band back in the late 70's so many times and was always pleased by their music,Child of a Novelty is a Hard Rock classic.
|
||
I have seen Frank 6 times in the past 8 years or so. Just keeps getting better and better. He's starting another tour this July throught the summer into the fall.

vastly under rated guitarist who lives in the sonic universe of Jimi Hendrix. Equally at home riffing blues, jazz, rock and psychedelica
|
||
As far as Frank being alive and well, he has tour dates planned till the end of this year (2007), So i gues he is doing ok.

I got to see Mahogany Rush live in Bakersfield, CA many many moons ago. I had loved Their recordings, literally wearing out one of their albums (Old school recording system) Frank tore the place up and didn't leave any doubt about his outstanding guitar playing ability. He was one of the first guitarists I saw that was trying to get more out of the guitar than it could provide him. Amazing finger work. Thank you Pandora for bringing back so many memories.
