Biography
A multi-instrumentalist, producer and vocalist for the soulful black gospel group Commissioned during the 1980s and '90s, Fred Hammond also became one of the most popular praise & worship leaders in the field. Born in Detroit, Hammond began singing with his church choir at the age of twelve. He played bass and sang with the Winans during the early '80s, then joined Commissioned later in the decade, showcasing his superb arranging, production and songwriting skill as well as his soaring vocals. Hammond's concurrent solo career began in 1991 with I Am Persuaded, and he released additional albums for Benson, gradually embracing an in-concert feel even on his studio recordings. His fifth studio album, Purpose By Design was released under the Verity label in 2000. In Case You Missed It...And Then Some followed in 2001. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

I love Fred's music, it is so uplifting and upbeat. The words in the songs are so touching and full of the spiritl I listen to his music all day while I am at work because it encourages me and keep me in a postitive mood all day to deal with the drama the exist.

I just can't get enough of Fred Hammond; he was one of the first Gospel artists I rediscoverd once I reclaimed my Christianity this New Year. I hope Hammond continues to create works for the Lord.

I have all and I do mean all of his CDs. I love the fact that his music is about contemporary praise and worship. He has an incredable soulful voice with a creative flair unduplicated . His music reaches down into your very soul making you smile when you are low, cry when things are going well, dance in your car, and most of all appreciate God in His glory. Fred Hammond has been using the blessing of God, to challenge, inspire, and lead the saints, lost lambs, suffering soldiers back in the direction of Jesus christ.

Although I feel Fred has lost a beat somewhere in trying to re-invent himself. That annointing that precededs him cannot be denied. I will forever support and pray for this man-of-God, but I wish he would take it back to the P.O.L days. He taught me how to worship God in song. Be enkourage Bro. Hammond! yO!
