Gene Watson
Biography
Though he can sing honky tonk, Gene Watson built a reputation for soulful ballads in the classic country tradition. Born one of seven children in Palestine, TX, Watson married early and was working as an auto-body man when he began frequenting the clubs in Houston. He recorded for a few small-time regional labels like Wide World and Stoneway during the early '70s. Watson finally had success in 1974, when a steamy single for Resco -- "Love in the Hot Afternoon" -- was picked up for national distribution by Capitol Records, igniting a firestorm of national hits: "Where Love Begins," "Paper Rosie," "Farewell Party," "Should I Come Home (Or Should I Go Crazy)," and "Nothing Sure Looked Good on You." In 1982, shortly after moving to MCA, Watson recorded his only chart-topper, "Fourteen Carat Mind." A parade of Top Ten entries followed during the early '80s, including "Speak Softly (You're Talking to My Heart)" and "You're Out Doing What I'm Here Doing Without." Between 1993 and 1997 Watson released four albums on the independent label Step One: Uncharted Mind, Good Ole Days, Jesus Is All I Need, and A Way to Survive. Four years later From the Heart was issued on RMG Records, followed by the 2005 Koch release Gene Watson...Then & Now. In a Perfect World appeared on Shanachie Records in the summer of 2007. ~ David Vinopal, All Music Guide

Gene Watson is one of today's living legends in country music - he's up there with George Jones and Merle Haggard with his steadfast resolve to deliver REAL country music regardless of what is passing for country today. Gene Watson should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

||
"Love in the Hot Afternoon" and "Between this Time and the Next Time" are two of my favorite all-time songs. I think I heard on an internet radio station a song titled, "Most of All Why" by Gene Watson. I can't find it any place. Can you all help me? Thanks.

I've been a long time Fan Of Gene's I try to go see him every time he comes around my home town, Quinlan Tx. I've Met him several times and he has a special talent . He is my favorite artist and I have most all of his albums I started collecting them since he first started his career. I believe Gene just got stuck with the wrong Managers and Publicist or he would have been riding on top with George Jones, Merle Haggard and lots of others...... . W h a t ' y a think?

And Taylor Swift is without a doubt the most over-rated country music artist of all time...and she's not even country to begin with. Don't get me started on her though. All I can say is thank God for artists like Gene Watson who still know what REAL country music is all about.

||
never get tired of hearing this great man. He is definitely one of country music's greatest singers of all time and without a doubt, the most under-rated.

I met Gene in the early 1980's at Indian River High School when I was singing in a talent contest. He was a gifted talent and could hang with the best. I too believe he was greatly under rated.

Gene Watson became a favorite of mine when my parents went thru a divorce. His music was from the heart and my father was in another world when singing his songs. My absolute favorite is You'd Love Me Forever, Again...then , I would have to say This Dreams on Me. I have seen him several times here in Arkansas (Fort Smith and Greenwood) and hope to see him again!

Gene Watson has been my favorite country singer since I fell in love with his voice singing "Between This Time and the Next Time" back in the 80's. In my opinion, he has the greatest voice in country music and I never tire of listening to Gene Watson songs - I've got them all. My husband and I have had the pleasure of attending 14 of his concerts and look forward to seeing him again soon.

Believe he has a tape with the title (?) This Dream's On Me. Have heard the music on it a couple of time, but am looking for the album if one exists. Anyone know?? Thanks.
