Gino Vannelli
Biography
Gino Vannelli learned to play the drums early in life and studied music theory at McGill University. He formed an R&B band with two brothers, but later began recording solo material for RCA in 1970. He became popular four years later when A&M released his hit single "People Gotta Move," from the Powerful People album (re-titled People Gotta Move). Many albums followed, including Storm at Sunup (1975), Gist of Gemini (1976), A Pauper in Paradise (1977), Brother to Brother (1978), Nightwalker (1981), Black Cars (1985), Big Dreamers Never Sleep (1987), Inconsolable Man (1990) and Live in Montreal (1992). After a lengthy absence from the studio, Vannelli returned in 1995 with Yonder Tree; Slow Love followed three years later. After yet another legnthy absence from the recording studio, Gino recorded the ambitious Canto in 2003 and 2006's These Are the Days; which featured remastered recordings of some of his best known work alongside seven new compositions. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

I absolutely love Gino. While Canto is not his regular 70's stuff, it is worth getting!!!

Gino is one of the best songwriters with some of the best compositions . His music is very passionate. I live listening to him, and have been since I was 10. His music will live forever.

Rolling Stone magazine crucified everything he ever did. But I always liked his voice and -- even more than that -- the stunning musicianship of his sidemen. I'm talking mainly the 1970s records.

Gino is such a smooth and silky vocalist. He is truly a hidden treasure and talent.

Gino's new cd is "A Good Thing". Not yet available in the US. I obtained it from a distributor in The Netherlands who is online. The cd has some great new tracks. I've been a die-hard fan of Gino's since 1974, and I still say he's the best.

Booked a flight (from Baltimore), bought a ticket for Sat night's show (2/23/08) as soon as I heard Gino was in Vegas...no regrets. It was well worth the trip to finally see an artist who's music I have loved for almost 30 years. Great show, great music (timeless), great voice (his Canto will bring you to tears)and a hug & autograph to boot...Life is good!

quality. and that is the problem with this site. quality is not one of the criteria or key words...I understand, someone has to decide what is good. If you're a musician, hopefully you will like the extended jazz chords, chromatic melodies, ranges of melody that go beyond pop, and the insanely great players. Yes, good songs don't need to be complicated. . . b u t I am an adult and no longer listen to a lot of kid's music.

Where is the bass player Scott Hamilton that used to play with Gino in the 80's tour?

"Love Me Now". Yah. This is the song that made me run off with my dad's vinyl Storm at Sunup. He's also one of the only people I can think of under pressure to mix in with Earth Wind and Fire and have it still be groovy and sexy.
