Gojira
Biography
Taking their name from the original Japanese pronunciation of Godzilla, French heavy metal quartet Gojira have risen from utmost obscurity during the first half of their career to widespread global recognition in the second, including regular mention amongst the genre's leading new millennium upstarts. Originating from the town of Bayonne, on France's southernmost Atlantic Ocean coastline, Gojira recorded the first in a sequence of almost yearly demos in 1996, gradually honing their sound until the year 2000, when bandmembers Joe Duplantier (vocals/guitar), Christian Andreu (guitar), Jean-Michel Labadie (bass), and Mario Duplantier (drums), felt ready to record their first album, Terra Incognita, relying solely on their own devices. And despite its independent status, the aptly named LP made significant waves with its unpredictable blend of death, thrash, groove, progressive, and math metal -- recalling bands as diverse as Pantera, Meshuggah, Suffocation and Sepultura. Still, it took several years (and a curious detour into soundtrack music on 2003's Maciste All Inferno EP) for the metal world to catch on, and even Gojira's second album, The Link, had to be released through tiny independent, Boycott Records, before being reissued by Listenable.
(This was followed by 2004's The Link Alive live album and DVD, whose audio component was limited to 500 copies -- a parting shot for Boycott.) Now finally gathering steam, Gojira saw their third full-length, From Mars to Sirius, enter the French charts at number 44, while collecting the most enthusiastic reviews of their career -- a level of acclaim that led, in turn, to numerous key European festival appearances, and lengthy European and North American tours with bands like Obituary, Hatesphere, Children of Bodom, and Machine Head, to name but a few. By the end of the album's long promotional cycle, Gojira were widely acknowledged as a force to be reckoned with, on-stage and in the studio, and their much anticipated fourth LP, The Way of All Flesh (released stateside by Prosthetic Records), made a strong showing by debuting at number 138 on the American charts, in October 2008. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came. Candles raise my desire, Why I'm so far away. No more meaning to my life, No more reason to stay. Freezing, feeling, Breathe in, breathe in... I'm coming back again... I'm not the one who's so far away When I feel the snake bite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came. |

Lamb of God and Gojira play different styles... nobody should compare the two... but I like both so f**k you The Good Shepard.
Heavy a** s**t here. This is not your f**king typical head banging s**t. Gojira tears it up on the guitars and on the f**king vocals! No f**king way they can compare this to crappy as Lamb of God. F**k that p**sy as s**t. Gojira strikes hard and fast!

I concur with Tory S. Where are The Link and Terra Incognita. Terra Incognita has two of my favorite Gojira tracks, Satan is a Lawyer and Space Time. The Link is great too, with tracks like The Link and Death of Me. But I do think From Mars to Sirius is their best work.

WWIII is either Willow or one of his satanic followers.
And where are, The Link, Terra Incognita, and (maybe) The Link Alive. Or even the demo album by Godzilla(Old Gojira). |
great band-way of all flesh is excellent-on e way to save willow who is now writing under WW111-stay on godsmack or better yet-there is no way to save willow.

They kick major a** and they care about the environment we live in.. Now tell me.. Whats wrong with that?
Oh and whats your problem asmodeus? WTF is wrong with them caring about the environment?
@cquesada, same thing for me but with in flames.
I think that the most amazing death metal concert ever would be this: Gojira, Necrophagist , Meshuggah. I would add stuff like Amon Amarth, but I'm not sure that any melo death bands would fit into this lineup... I love them too though. @Baron: Go see them. |
I had never heard of Gojira until i saw them open up for hypocrisy two years ago and they instantly became one of my favorites. Their live performance is just as tight as their recordings, and they have awesome stage presence
Love thier sound.....so different.
Thier style is so fresh and unique, yet not hard to "access" or just get into right away...first song. I really, really like this band. Havent seen em yet live and yearn too.... |
Phenomenal band. Unfortunatel y their environmenta l message that goes along with this awesome music is total bullshit.
Every so often a band comes along...they don't play the most technical music out there, but that have spot-on writing skills, and something that sets them apart from the pack. This to me is essentially what Gojira has done to a "t". Their music is simplisticly brutal, and they have a message that few dare to express. They truly are a rare breed in the metal genre, and the fame and success they get are well deserved in my book........ . . . .
I was going to see them in Portland...
At least I saw them with in flames though! AMAZING live band... kind of sad though, it felt like I was the only guy in their that had really heard of them :( |
One of my very fav. bands ever since i heard MARS TO SIRIUS. Thanks again to PANDORA.
Had never heard of them until i herd em on Pandora. I like Gojira's theme's and viewpoints too. |
Great band tastes a little like sepultura with little morbid angel tones
i saw them performing between 36crazyfists and In Flames.
Gojira completely blew both acts out of the water-- it wasn't even close. They crushed so hard and made In Flames look like silly, over-the-hil l , pansy b*tches hahah |
They don't sound like most of Panteras music but have you listened to the great southern trendkill album that sounds more similar to Gojira.
they should really replace Pantera to Carcass in the similar artists section. they sound a lot like Carcass, and nothing like Pantera.
feeling the love for GOJIRA. They are bad assssss. Different, very progressive, deep, dark and insanely powerful. Thier riffs are like huge slabs of molten iron shredding on your puny body, thundering you into submission.
They, High on Fire, Mastodon.... . . . t h a t would be a bad show wouldnt it? |
these guys are awesome. If you caught them with In Flames in 2008 you were treated to something special. Catch them live if they come back in 2009!
The Link DVD will blow yer friggin'mind . . . . . . o n e of the tightest live bands out there, for as technical as they are.......
Jeeze Pandora, it only took ya FOREVER to get a bio up for them, now how about adding there other albums.
RETARDS. |
