Biography
New York-based artist Meredith Godrea devised the pseudonym Gregory & the Hawk in 2003 as a means to escape the potential media stereotypes that often accompany female singer/songwriters. Equally proficient on guitar, piano, and violin, Godrea's home recordings found an audience on the Internet, spawning numerous covers recorded by adoring fans and posted on various social websites. Her notorious D.I.Y. work ethic (she sold 15,000 albums independent of a label) which resulted in packed houses and the production of her 2007 full-length debut In Your Dreams, eventually landed her a deal with Fatcat records. Meredith Godreau is one of those musicians that continually impresses me with her ability to grow. Though I prefer her demo album much more, the sound quality of it is amazing, her expansion to a more of dream-pop/sh o e g a z e influence seems to be articulately executed. I wish she would sing more as she did originally, I feel it expresses more of the emotion lieing within her, but the instrumentat i o n on her more recent work is perfect for her deceptively soft voice. I expect great things.

Gregory and the Hawk impress me as artists. Their lyrics vary, beautiful and solemn, yet lack nothing to match them in the vocals. You can tell that their music actually means something to them - they aren't just trying to follow trends. They are trying to create change.

It's like a lullaby, her voice is so sweet and whispery. It makes me warm and sleepy. I love the dreamy sound.

Saw them live last night opening for Mum @ the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn. Really great band- wish there was more info on here about them...
