Biography
After spending six years with the genre-defying roots rock ensemble Drive-By Truckers, singer/guitarist Jason Isbell amicably left the group in 2007 to pursue a solo career. Isbell had already displayed his songwriting prowess during his tenure with the Truckers, and he funneled those talents into Sirens of the Ditch, a bluesy, punk-infused lesson in guitar tones and Southern swagger that marked his solo debut in summer 2007. Backed by a band dubbed the 400 Unit, Isbell took his songs on the road and soon began penning another album, which he recorded with the 400 Unit in 2008. I liked his songs with DBT, but some of this does seem just a little over done, I am sure its awesome live though. I like it overall. Like the others said, I agree with the idea that his songs had more umph with DBT.

ive seen jason a few times down in here in the southeast, georgia to be exact. its been great everytime. If you guys from the west make it out this way you need to catch a show.

He's from Green Hill, Alabama, which is north of Florence right near the Tennessee border, not Greenville, which is in Lower Alabama.

Jason's songs on the DBT albums were always strong...Thi s album could be a bit more "RAW" for my tastes, but a decent debut nonetheless. . . . . .

Need Jason to come out West (as in West coast). His old band DBT came through Portland OR back in Nov. Have not seen Jason live (with his solo gig) since Texas. Another album would be a nice 2009 treat as well.

I have not seen DBT live since jason left... Almost scared too. No one can match the three guitar front of Isbell, Patterson, and Cooley!

Yeah, I've gotta agree with these guys. Where's the punk influence here? NOWHERE! Not that that's a bad thing, but Jason takes a few keys from Bruce Hornsby here with the cheesy piano rock (Chicago Promenade, etc.). He's much more comfortable live, whereas this album seems a bit overproduced .

Jason is a talented musician and songwriter, my favorite. I saw him in Nashville solo in August 2007 and many times before with the Truckers. I loved when he did Moonlight Mile while with the Truckers at the 9:30 Club in DC. Can't get enough of him, he's great and so is this awesome album.

..yeah, there's no punk-infused with this album..? It's straight forward southern rock and roll!! When Jason played Charlotte last fall he played 4 acoustic tunes at Manifest, local indie record shop. He finished the 4 song set with Dress Blues and out of the 15~20 people there listening I don't think any of us had a dry eye, what a f'n song! Rock on Jason!!
