Joaquin Phoenix
Selected Discography
I think Joaquin did a great job of channeling the man in black. Who else could have done a better job? I thought as an actor, he nailed it as close as you can. Johnny's a hard act to follow, let alone try a simulate. I like Joaquin a lot, he is a dedicated artist, and i felt real bad for him on Letterman.

Pandora does not discriminate between artists or versions when it comes to the song, or so I've discovered. I can't tell you how many different versions they have played of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". I like the song, but I don't want to hear every single version ever made. So if you like the Cash versions, you will probably have to put up with versions made by others (including Joaquin's).

Joaquin is awful and butchers the songs they barely sound close to the real cash

Johnny Cash was an addict. As an addict he was not capable of turning it on and off at will. He was a famous "no show" for major events and was extremely difficult to manage. Whether or not you are a fan has nothing to do with reality.
In spite of his problems he was an enormous talent and gave a good performance. |
looked too much like an addict all the time. for my tastes but overall i like!!! kinda always sweaty big eyes, only complaint
great job, good movie, dvd special features said everyone was nervous leading up to shooting because his vocals were not low enough, then during the shoot his range dropped an octave, after shooting he couldnt hit those low notes again. If you believe such back-lot stories. I would prefer to hear Johnny though.
I think Joaquin did a great job, I can't think of anyone who would better fit- except Mr. Cash himself!
"I didn't think the movie represented who Cash was and what he did'
everyone is entitled to their opinion but wow, did you actually watch a minute this movie? I'd find it hard to believe you did, either that or you know very little about Johnny Cash |
i think he did a bang up job, i loved the movie and i'm smart enought to realize that it is virtually impossible to squeeze an entire life into one movie. reese witherspoon was terrific, too.
I didn't think the movie represented who Cash was and what he did, a lot of stories were left out of it. Another movie that wasn't as good as the book. What about the time he crawled into a cave to die? Or wrecking June's brand new '59 brougham? His brother was left out of it. He's out of tune in this song too.

Do any of you know that Johhny Cash choose Joquin personally for this role and loved his voice! I guess you can't say you are a true Johnny Cash fan unless you are aware of things like that.
I agree with ems77. i dont get rythym with joaquin. so please dont play his songs so much. because last time i checked, this clown was turnin into a wanna be rapstar.
Ok, I could stand a little Joaquin every once in awhile - but Pandora plays him as much as JC! Makes me wanna cry, cry, cry. C'mon, he's an ok actor and an ok singer, but he ain't no Johnny.
Hey! i also grew up in the 60's. my dad was into johnny also.
loved the movie.. seemed so real! will always love Johnny!! |
I have been a Johnny Cash fan since hearing my Dad play his records in the mid-'60s. I was sure this movie would suck, but was pleasantly surprised by the movie AND Joaquin's singing! Excellent! Very AUTHENTIC vibe!

i thought he did a great job, considering he is an actor and not a singer. I figured he would be awful, but was pleasently surprised. He even looked a bit like Johnny did when he was younger.
I give joaquin a whole lot of credit he really did a great job portaying johnny cash
Listening, I could tell the difference between Phoenix and Cash right away. Cash's voice is deeper. But Phoenix does a great job as Cash! It's really remarkable. He does a better job than I thought he would.
hey nightryder, maybe you should quit stroking it to pictures of that drug addict phoenix dressed up as johnny c at 3 in the morning, yeah im talking s**t and im doing a lot better things that jaoquin, i wake up everyday and dont bang heroin and i dont go on national tv pretending i can rap with a 5 month old beard, f**k joaquin phoenix and f**k you nightryder
anyone here that critisizes pheonix are retarded. dude he sounds good, an reese sounds better than the real june carter, not to mention shes way better looking. I would like to see anyone here talking s**t do somthing better than joaquin. the people talking trash probably flip burgers at mcdonalds or plunge bathroom toilets. your all jokes, shut your mouths.
Talent is not always tied up in a pretty bow. What are you doing with your life. probably something that requires a lot less talent
I think he's been doing a little too much of the stuff that killed his brother...
just wait for the freak to try out his so called rap career. what a joke! and just like "It's just me" said, he is a "DOUCHE BAG"
I don't recall the name, but really like the music. I need to look into it more.
I haven't seen the movie, I don't have a tv. I like the music even if he is a dork.
no they don't sound like Cash or Carter but at least they try just like in the movie about Hank Williams Sr. portrayed by George Hamilton with the songs being sung by Hank Jr. ,,,but I still like the movies
