John Mayer
Biography
After a short-lived stint at the Berklee College of Music, where he had a "great learning experience, but not because of class," John Mayer set down roots in Atlanta, where his music career hit the ground running. After one year in Atlanta, he released his debut solo album, Inside Wants Out, in 1999. At the same time, he became a regular in the Atlanta club circuit, playing a steady stream of shows at venues like Eddie's Attic. An appearance in March 2000 at the South by Southwest Music Festival led to a recording contract with Aware Records, a subsidiary of Columbia. He began recording his major-label debut, Room for Squares, that fall with producer John Alagia, who had previously worked with artists like Dave Matthews and the Ben Folds Five.
Mayer's first album had been a decidedly acoustic effort; in contrast, Room for Squares featured a full electric band and showed the work of its producer with its funky hooks and an emphasis placed on Mayer's versatile, smooth voice, which bore more than just a stylistic resemblance to Dave Matthews. Columbia re-released Room for Squares in the summer of 2001, adding one bonus track, and also offered a very limited-edition two-CD set including a disc with two previously unreleased covers. Mayer's dedicated fan base grew substantially larger during his first cross-country tour to support the album, spawning a number of CD-R trading outlets through fan websites, as well as a successful live album, Any Given Thursday. Mayer's lucrative follow-up, 2004's Heavier Things, resulted in another Grammy, this time for Song of the Year. Looking to strip his sound down, he formed the John Mayer Trio with drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino. Their sold-out tour was documented on the 2005 release Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert. Continuum arrived the following year. In 2008, Mayer released the concert album Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
John is undeniably an incredibly talented artist and individual. His music provides the perfect melding of heart and emotion; his lyricism can describe anguish and heartbreak with a precision that is beyond words.
More than once, I feel like his music has been lifesaving. I'm sure that I speak for others as well in that respect. |

Mutherf* can play those Blues like nobodies biz. And forget what that Andre typed....If a dude likes Mayer its because John has chops like a Bruce Lee movie.

John Mayer ROCKS!! i love him and his soft and sweet voice...sigh . . . i love his music! I think he is totally AWESOME.
John's music is totally awesome. I love the variety of instruments that is used in his songs, not to mention he has an awesome voice. The one thing about John is that he doesn't mock any other singers, nor is it about sex. Which that is all you hear about anymore in songs. He is the bomb!! I could listen to him all day long and them the next day, and so on....

Anyone else notice the resemblence to Stevie Ray Vaughan on certain songs? Especially on "Man On the Side"....

Girls, if a guy tells you he likes John Mayer it's very likely he's just saying that because he wants to get in your pants.
"he makes me want to cut my penis off and shove it my own anus."
Is that a complement or an insult? |
Oh I wasn't knocking him down no I really nlike him But some song i tkink sound like Eric C.
Say what you will - this guy is so unblievably talented as a musician and lyricist that he just isn't going away. He'll hit 50 and be in the same stride as SRV and Clapton. Buy your soon-to-be-v i n t a g e tee shirts now.

I like john mayors and he remindes me of eric clapton at time with the guitar and sometimes it feels depressing. and i turn him off.
austin, i like his pop stuff. His blues stuff is decent, but I like how he mixes it up. To each his own though.
His blues stuff is great, but his poppy stuff really sucks nuts. One of the better bluesmen of the day, but he really needs to stay away from pop songs. Just because they make you rich doesn't mean they make you good
John Mayer is possibly the guitarist of our modern day...everyt h i n g me makes blows up...he is musical genius! Just watch where the light is....you will see a true guitar god

really love daughters and waiting on the world to change. At least he understands my generation and that we are the future, still.

John Mayer is one of my favorite artists. He has mastered the ability to mix light pop and mellow rock better than any other artist. The only band that could possible rival him is Dave Matthews Band... but most of their music is much different than Mayer's, and is style all to their own. Mayer is a musical genius, or close to it. His lyrics are witty and personal, letting people relate to his music. Jack Johnson is the only person who can match Mayer in this ability. Mayer's music is great...

i love his music. his girl freinds pretty hot too. i didnt realy like his music however until i heard the song Neon. One of his best.
john is my hero. he's original and amazingly talented. i can relate to so many of his songs at different times, it's unbelievable .
I must admit, I agree with klcktt. However, I didn't always. Before I heard "Home Life" from his Heavier Things album, I thought he sounded an awful lot like the Dave Matthews Band. Now I think I have never heard anyone like him before. He gets better and better. I can't wait to go and buy his two newest CD's.:)
THis is another original. Some compare him to artists like Dave Mathew, but I think he's in league all by himself.

You gotta tip yr hat to John Mayer… that' s the bottom line. I admit I don't LISTEN to him perse' … unless in passing on the radio like on Pandora like this… What it is that makes me feel "Iffy" about him I don't know, but I Don't Care! I totally Respect him and what he is doing and Attempting to do. Now… Comparing him to Otis Redding… THAT's going a bit far! :) But anyhow… our modern day corporate-po p culture doesn't give us much to hold onto… so we gotta take what we got & ShoutOut For More!
