Jonny Lang
Biography
Modern blues in the '90s had a weird phenomenon of teenage blues guitarists rocketing to popularity with their first album. The entire trend culminated with Jonny Lang, a guitarist from Fargo, North Dakota, who released his solo debut album Lie to Me when he was 15. At the age of 12, he attended a show by the Bad Medicine Blues Band and began playing with the group. Several months later he had become the leader, and the newly re-named Kid Jonny Lang & the Big Bang relocated from Fargo to Minneapolis and released their debut album, Smokin, in 1995. The LP became a regional hit, leading to a major-label bidding war and culminating in Lang's signing to A&M Records in 1996. Early in 1997, his major-label debut, Lie to Me, was released to mixed reviews; Wander This World followed late the next year. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

The reviewer couldn,t have put less effort into his review if he tried. Johnny is fantastic. To be able to creaate a song like "Lie to me" at 15 is amazing. I have seen him live several times. He never dissapoints. He is a humble prodigy. he has played with the rolling stones,Aeros m i t h , E r i c Clapton,BB King and Buddy Guy to name a few. They all respect his skills and talent so should the reviewer

The writer's dogging of Mr. Lang's lyrics shows that he obviously missed the whole point of the tune. I think Mr. Lang was refering to soul changin' and not record sales. What a rock.

Love Jonny! Saw him at House of Blues in Anaheim, California, just before his transition to Gospel. I'm hoping he'll get back to his Blues roots. Nothing against Gospel, it's just that he doesn't seem to show his "chops" anymore! ~0:'-( "Lie to Me" still my favorite album. First saw him on "Austin City Limits" in 1999. Couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Wow!
Saw him live at a small show in about 1994 with Big John Walker at Gabes in the park in Minnesota, killer show

I saw him live at the opening of the Hard Rock Cafe in Amsterdam back in 1998. All I can say is he was fantastic!

Jonny Lang...What a fresh look at what the time and tested origin being the blues has left in/on the puppy sponge that he is...Mr. Lang. I ain't no Spring Poussin, and seeing the young protege is a true joy to see such an accomplished student of the basis of our souls.

awesome guitar, great raspy blues voice. Long Time Coming & Turn Around venture more into R&B vocals with less emphasis on the guitar. Hopefully Jonny will return to his blues guitar roots on the next release.
he is way ahead of his time he is a wonderful artist what a blessing he is to share his music with us
Seen him twice in Agora Hills California. Great show with a full house each time.
I first saw Jonny when he opened for the Rolling Stones in January of 1998. He was amazing then at around 16 years old. I have been a huge fan ever since.
this dude's guitar skills are sick to the maxx! i look forward to his next installment.

I wonder why his movie appearances are not spoken of and although I am happy that he found the religion he can live by his music has lost some it's soulfullness . Music should not suffer for religion it should be inspired by it. I am a jazz and blues musician, from New Orleans and "Long Time Coming" was the only thing I would listen to for almost a year!
Saw Jonny Lang in Biloxi,MS in 1997,he is so awesome! YEAH!!! He just keeps getting better!
