Anyone who doesn't think Jordan Rudess is a BAD A**, is a DICKHEAD!!

James is dead-on about having to be a musician to appreciate how difficult this music is to produce. The man is producing things that are new and fresh, so you're always gonna have ignorant dweebs pooh-poohing it, until it's been around long enough to be picked up and copied by others. Try just listening to the experience, identifying with the emotional content the musician is trying to convey, and if that don't work, change your station back to pop.

herb...come on! "it's that it just isn't musical"... Sure your intitled to your oppinion, but seriously, This guy has forgotten more about music then you or i will ever know. and btw this is music we are talking about not a platter of twinkies...i t ' s okay to indulge...an d as far as the "emotionless " comment goes...are we listening to the same Jordan Rudess? 4NYC...???

Aesthetics or esthetics (also spelled æsthetics) is commonly known as the study of sensory or sensori-emot i o n a l values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste. More broadly, scholars in the field define aesthetics as "critical reflection on art, culture and nature." Aesthetics is a subdisciplin e of axiology, a branch of philosophy, and is closely associated with the philosophy of art. Aesthetics studies NEW ways of seeing and of perceiving the world. Rudess does this!!!!!

Well i just heard him for the first time, "Time Crunch" was the song i believe, and it was an amazing instrumental . I will be checking out more of his work and if it is anything like what i just heard then 4 stars from me. If your a musician yourself you will probaly like it more than if you don't have a clue how hard it is to get something to sound that tight. As for the "electronic cuteness" i say more like ELECTRONIC KICKARSENESS , rock the freak on man.
|
||
hmm, I kinda agree with the "electronic cuteness" idea. it seems that in all of his recordings, he throws in some wacky noises just for the hell of it. Sometimes it adds to the song (like in insectsamong u s , that song was built upon quirkiness), but most of the time it detracts from the over-all aesthetic appeal.

You know, I just can't get into this guy. His technique is huge, but it's like he's never listened to a piece of serious music. He did a cover of Tarkus on The Road Home, and it just has no judgment whatsoever. Full of electronic cutenesses -- it's like he was trying out all the settings on a new synth. It's not that it wasn't faithful to the original (slavish copying would be its own failure); it's that it just isn't musical. His work with DT is better, because he can't indulge himself in

I love Jordan, he's technically the best, and while some criticize his playing as emotionless, I disagree. He's not the most expressive, but there's plenty of emotion in his style.
So can we update the pic to a more modern one? He hasn't had that much hair in 10 years. |

Jordan Rudess is one of my favorite keyboardists ever! So inovative! So unique!
