Was recently turned on to The Shamimg of the True - my wife and I are STILL blown away by the artistry..

WHY isn't Shaming of the True on Pandora? Seriously. Or, heck, even an artist bio? He deserves at least that much, the man was incredible and I miss him sorely.

Gilbert's "Live at the Troubador" is one of the best live albums I've ever heard. It's not available except from his website and so won't show up on Pandora or iTunes. It has a lot of songs from the "Thud" collection, but the live versions have much better flow and pacing.

I just turned a new fan on to KG via Facebook, and wish the site still featured all those rare MP3s of live shows, Genesis covers, etc.
Sheryl Crow. I loathe her and take every opportunity to point out her abandonment of KG and theft of his music. I live near Austin and she is always in the news, one of these days I'm gonna go to a show of hers with a big LEAVING MISS BROADWAY sign!! Love that song. He had a right to be bitter. |

Thud is fantastic, as is TSOTT (which I saw performed posthumously by NDV and company) -- but Kevin was involved in a bunch of other music over the years, including his previous bands Giraffe, Toy Matinee and NRG (his High School band).
FYI - (1) his last recorded album was with his last band, Kaviar (The Kaviar Sessions) and (2) a Kevin Gilbert singer-songw r i t e r type album will be released in the next few months. RIP Kev... |

Yeah, I heard how it happened... In a very real sense, I feel cheated because KG is no longer around to make more great music. What an absolute genius he was. I, too, first heard of him through Toy Matinee (still one of my favorite albums from first song to last), and his Giraffe performance of "The Lamb Lies Down..." is flat-out incredible. One positive from getting to know his music has been getting to know his fellow music-makers , especially Nick d'Virgillio and his ties to Spock's Beard and

I am also a fan of Gilbert's. I have Shaming, and its is great. I first heard him through a band called Toy Matinee. If you haven't heard it, you should check it out, it's pretty cool.

Kevin Gilbert is one of the best artist ever, but also one of the least heard of. as the comment before mine said "The Shaming of the True" is his best work I think, but "Thud" is also really good. Gilbert worked with Sheryl Crow on her first album, because she has no talent at all, and got her started even though its wasn't very good music and he knew it. He acually dated Crow for a while but she was a b*tch and claimed she wrote all her own music. Gilbert ended up dieing with only one solo alb

While "Thud" is a pretty good album, I think that Kevin Gilbert's best work is the album called "The Shaming Of The True". It is one of the best concept albums I've ever heard. It is a shame that it was the last work he recorded before he met an untimely end. As a matter of fact, I believe that Nick D'Virgilio (of Spock's Beard) finished engineering and released "The Shaming Of The True" AFTER Kevin Gilbert's death. Thanks Nick!! It's a great album. You ought to go check it out right now!!
