Korn
Biography
Korn's cathartic alternative metal sound positioned the group among the most popular and provocative to emerge during the post-grunge era. Korn began their existence as the Bakersfield, CA-based metal band LAPD, which included guitarists James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch, bassist Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu, and drummer David Silveria. After issuing an LP, the members of LAPD in 1993 crossed paths with Jonathan Davis, a mortuary science student moonlighting as the lead vocalist for the local group Sexart. They soon asked Davis to join the band, and upon his arrival the quintet rechristened itself Korn.
After signing to Epic's Immortal imprint, they issued their debut album in late 1994; thanks to a relentless tour schedule that included stints opening for Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Marilyn Manson, and 311, the record slowly but steadily rose the charts, eventually going gold. Its 1996 follow-up, Life Is Peachy, was a more immediate smash, reaching the number three spot on the pop album charts. The following summer, they headlined Lollapalooza, but were forced to drop off the tour when Shaffer was diagnosed with viral meningitis. While recording their best-selling 1998 LP Follow the Leader, Korn made national headlines when a student in Zeeland, MI, was suspended for wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the group's logo (the school's principal later declared their music "indecent, vulgar, and obscene," prompting the band to issue a cease-and-desist order). Their annual Family Values tour also started in 1998, featuring a lineup that consisted of Korn collaborators such as Limp Bizkit and Ice Cube and likeminded artists such as Rammstein. The tour was an enormous success, so much so that it continued on with Korn overseeing the lineup for years after.
Issues followed in 1999, and in typical Korn fashion they debuted their new single in an episode of South Park. The band toured behind the album into the next year, but their efforts were cut short by an injury that took out drummer David Silveria. They hired former Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin to help them finish the remaining shows, and took a short rest before joining a summer tour with Metallica, Kid Rock, Powerman 5000, and System of a Down. (Silveria later returned amid rumors of leaving the band for a fashion career, but these stemmed from some modeling work he had done before his injury.) In the meantime, Fieldy released a gangsta rap album and Davis scored the film Queen of the Damned, but at the end of 2001 the band reunited as a unit and entered the studio. A few shows with Static-X helped iron the wrinkles out of the new material, and by the next summer they had Untouchables ready for release. Korn did a run of Ozzfest dates in support, and the album was another smash hit. The self-produced Take a Look in the Mirror arrived in 2003. Billed by the band as a reconsideration of their sound, the album was accompanied by a tour of smaller venues called "Back to Basics."
In 2005, Welch left the band, evidently due to his newfound Christian faith. But Korn continued, playing shows that summer as a quartet and signing an expansive recording and development deal with Virgin. The following December they released See You on the Other Side, a number three hit that featured a batch of songs co-written with hitmaking production team the Matrix. Live & Rare, an aptly titled disc of live recordings and rarities, was released in May 2006 with the live acoustic recording MTV Unplugged following in March 2007. Later that year, after returning to the studio, this time without drummer David Silveria, the band resurfaced with an underwhelming album appropriately named Untitled. ~ Jason Ankeny & Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

They should start the healing process by establishing a way for HEAD to get back in the band without him feeling like he is sacrificing his religious beliefs. That would mean their backstage antics will have to change drastically, The groupies and drugs would have to become a thing of the past. David and Feildy need to make up and get over themselves, its all about priorities guys. The day this band has all original members intact and are brothers again good music will follow.

Its not that Korn just forgot how to write creative good tunes after 'Untouchable s ' . Its just that their Brotherhood was shattered and all of the in-fighting took its toll. They were always a cohesive unit in yrs past and ever since '02 they have been constantly arguing and fighting over meaningless crap. Until they remember why they wrote the lyrics "These are my brothers,eac h one I will die for" on 'Issues' their music will continue to get worse and their legacy will suffer.

i fell in love with KORN the first time i heard BLIND< and saw them at Lupos in Providence on the Life is Peachy Tour, what a great show that was ! however, after untouchables , the music started to definetly change, which is ok, but not as energetic, powerful and strong as previous records.. to see all the members back together to recreate that powerful sound again would be refreshing!

crowned and conquered you have to understand that Korn was in 1994 what Disturbed is today a band that has their OWN sound with no competition. To say Korn are a bad band is totally off base that 7 string down tuned sound is their own creation although in todays scene it has been copied to the point of irrelevance you can't forget its their own. I have to admit that every album since 'Untouchable s ' Has been unlistenable crap for ppl more interested in the ppl in the band, not ppl into music.

KoRnz tha s**t alwayz have been!!!! i know tha new stuff iz kinda weird ive stuck wit them sentz back in tha day and i will alwayz
ps: bring back tha old KoRn!!!!!!!! |
||
And to all you who think that KoRn are "a bunch of p**sys" or "not origonal"... you'd better check your facts... KORN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR POPULARIZING AN ENTIRE GENRE OF MUSIC! WHEN'S THE LAST TIME ONE OF YOU HATERS CREATED AN ENTIRE GENRE OF MUSIC? Yeah, that's what I thought.
|
||
KoRn is my absolutely all time favorite band! They helped me through one of the toughest times of a person's live... Teenage years! I have seen them in concert over a dozen times and have to say that KoRn puts on absolutely the best concerts ever! I don't care who else is/isn't in the band, as long as Jon's on a stage infront of me screaming at me, I am in heaven! Keep on Rocking, KoRn!
P.S. I agree with Gabreil Blackshire, I do miss the old, heavy, raunchy KoRn... bring back our band!!! |
||
Also Feildy recently made a retarted comment to metal edge magazine about their fill-in drummer Luzier being the best drummer he has played with, That is so rediculous its unreal. David Silveria Will drum circles around Ray, I like Ray but he is no Silveria. David is such a huge part of that original Korn sound, he is irreplacable so swallow your pride and get the original line up back together.
|
||
Don't get me wrong I love Korn and have since the beginning and have seen them live tons of times but everything they have released since 'Untouchable s ' has been mediocre at best. They need to get Head and David back b/c now they are an unlistenable shell of their former selves.Focus on quality instead of quantity.

Ok, I believe that it is not a big deal that a band (say Korn) covers a song (say Another Brick in that wall), just as long as people know who origonaly sang it. I kinda like Korn's cover, not better than Floyd, but its good.....
By the way, has anyone here ever seen Pink Floyd's, THE WALL Movie, Holy S**t that is a acid trip if ever there were to be one!!! |
||

Crowned and Conquering77 7 - says:
"oh god! This pathetic bunch of complete losers (korn) just showed up on my Roger Waters station with a cover of "Another Brick in the Wall"! That is purely blasphemy. The Music Gods will surely loose their wrath on korn for that abomination. " I say: Shut the f**k up you butt-f**king f**got! |
