Leaves' Eyes
Biography
Gothic metal band Leaves' Eyes was born out of the romantic relationship between singer Liv Kristine Espenæs and guitarist Alexander Krull, who met whilst she was fronting Norway's Theatre of Tragedy and he Germany's Atrocity. The pair eventually married and announced their musical union in 2003, with Espenæs quitting Theatre of Tragedy to join Krull and the rest of Atrocity's lineup (guitarists Thorsten Bauer and Mathias Roderer, bassist Christian Lukhaup, and drummer Nick Barker) to found Leaves' Eyes and record their 2004 debut album, Lovelorn. Along with its next-year successor, Vinland Saga, the record confirmed the new group's affinity for theatrical, symphonic goth-metal, as the leading couple living out the beauty and the beast' vocal roles. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

@LLM: Look up "Shadowsouls " by Imperanon. It'll give you a taste of what that fusion might sound similar to. Imperanon's frontman actually replace Petri in Norther, and sounds remarkably similar to him.
...actually, if they wrote riffs like Petri's, they might have to kick out Liv Kristine and replace her with someone who's voice could actually stand up to the riffage...
Leave's Eyes should ask Petri Lindroos for guitar lessons.
true...
it's fine to suck and take the easy stuff sometimes, but pushing yourself is important. *sigh* at least Epica has gotten a bit better. as for Leaves' Eyes... um... ask Nightwish to give you some pointers on guitars. |
@Fangirl & LLM: Because it's easier to be lazy and play boring generic stuff than it is to play technical stuff.
Good question. Why would Jansen hold back? It diminishes the band's greatness.
good point. then why were they holding back? :/
Not anymore. The new guy's good, and Jansen doesn't suck, he just doesn't bother to demonstrate that he actually knows how to play.
and I thought Epica's guitarists were useless...
LOL. Yeah it would. But I don't think I've ever seen him do anything other than stand around in their music videos apart from his minor vocal roles.
@Plague: Sure. I don't know about live but I might find out next month. It would make sense that he would do keyboards live. Otherwise, it'd be real boring.
I really am way more forgiving than you, Plague! lol
@Fangirl: Hey, it's supposed to be metal. By definition it should be guitar driven. XD
@LLM: Thanks for clearing that up, but it brings up the question, does he play keyboards live, or does he just stand around waiting to do an occasional vocal part? LOL. |
The answer to your question, Plague is that Krull does not play guitar, just vocals, keyboards and programming.
*snickers* Plague and his pickiness with guitars... but I second his comment.
Okay, question: The bio says Krull is a guitarist, but then it goes on to list two additional guitarists. Does LE have three guitarists (and if yes, why is it so quiet and unimpressive ) ? Or does Krull not play guitar, and just does backing vocals? Or is the bio just plain wrong?

"Senses Capture" is very pretty, soft, but epic.
I can't listen to all them in a long streak, it puts me to sleep. But it's very good for being zen (and hemming).
But the music gets bland pretty fast. Edit: I lied, Elegy is awesome. |

Pandora needs to get Lovelorn on here. It's very different from what Pandora has for LE, but it's still awesome! Yep, I'm suggesting Lovelorn and LE's newest album! Haven't heard any songs from it, but it's got to be great! It's LE we're talking about!
yep. it's a shame record sales don't matter to me. all I care about is the music.
@LLM: They might win the battle in record sales versus underground bands too, but that's kind of irrelevant.. .
@willow: It doesn't matter how many times you change your name, nobody will ever like you. Also, I did not mean it as a battle, you idiot, I wanted to know the difference between them because they seem very similar on Wikipedia.
P.S. GS will never be declared the victor of anything except bad music. |
