Leaves' Eyes
Biography
Gothic metal band Leaves' Eyes was born out of the romantic relationship between singer Liv Kristine Espenæs and guitarist Alexander Krull, who met whilst she was fronting Norway's Theatre of Tragedy and he Germany's Atrocity. The pair eventually married and announced their musical union in 2003, with Espenæs quitting Theatre of Tragedy to join Krull and the rest of Atrocity's lineup (guitarists Thorsten Bauer and Mathias Roderer, bassist Christian Lukhaup, and drummer Nick Barker) to found Leaves' Eyes and record their 2004 debut album, Lovelorn. Along with its next-year successor, Vinland Saga, the record confirmed the new group's affinity for theatrical, symphonic goth-metal, as the leading couple living out the beauty and the beast' vocal roles. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

and then my pitbull smile saw toy box tomatoes but I couldn't move because in the fog I could hear the swishing of the sword of Frankie Knuckles and I didn't know if he was doing a lot of practicing or beheading and then he shrieked'' is that you smile and your forsaken master because if it is you're too close to my friend and I don't want to have any more pitbull stew this week'' Today is not the day to pervicate to toy,to flim flam him about Laura . No, not today.

Yeah, Christian, you should check out the rest of their music. They rock!! I've got all of the featured discographie s on here as well as "Lovelorn."
Sadly, I've only heard Senses Capture so far. I just found these guys on Pandora through my Lacuna Coil Radio. Senses Capture is captivating, almost haunting. Definitely have a plan to check out more of their music.
just kidding-very different from toft-really getting to like them-is it normal to love death metal and then fall for bands like this one,i think i have a fever
remember, I never said I was smart, actual l y Liv is growing and this music is enchanting the hell outta of me and I'm the guy who will only be able to use pandora after work hours but here i am using it during work hours with the volume barely on people are looking but nobody has the guts to say anything. LIV RULES
i just buy the albums for the covers-is the band any good ? never heard the music.
if you look at the album covers it looks like she's raising her arms... yes, this is stating the obvious. but it's a neat effect :D
She has a good voice, but not a fan of the "beast" side of the vocals.
liv was great with tot but what happened here-she froze up ! come on go back to your old band.
Good s**t, vocals need to be dropped down a little bit in volume as opposed to the music. But still, good stuff.
Nope, I only compared them cuz someone else did :P
I didn't know she was from Theatre of Tragedy. Now I feel like giving them a second look. |
Same, Twilight! :D
They're unique... I just think she has such a sweet, delicate voice... it's definitely a unique sound. The simplicity of the melody of "The Crossing" gives it a very dirge-like, traditional sound, as compared to the more symphonic scores used by most. I definitely like it. |
I agree with Qumoko. She definitely compliments this band, even though her work with Theatre of Tragedy was fair, always looked forward to more songs dominated by her, such as 'Hollow-hear t e d & Heart-Depart e d ' , 'A Rose For the Dead' and 'As The Shadows Dance'...I just always felt that she would break off and do some more 'Solo-ish' work..Glad she did...I don't really admire the 'scream' either lol
I love her voice! It's so beautiful(an d so is she!)
Not a big fan of the screaming though...or whatever it is. She sounds better on her own. Amazing band. |
I think Liv sounds better with Leaves' than in T.o.T. for some reason. Don't get me wrong I like both bands, just Leaves better :)
All I can say is "Wow" ... I literally just found Leaves' Eyes through my 'Within Temptation' radio... I absolutely LOVE them. (Within Temptation AND Leaves' Eyes.) They are beyond amazing...
Leaves' Eye's are the windows of tranquility. . . .
Sing on....Sing on....Sing on.... Kevin |
Amanda, do you mean Liv's former band, Theatre of Tragedy? I like them as much as I like Leaves' Eyes.
This band is sweet. Love the vocalist. too bad she's married...lo l . this rocks
And yeah, Within Temptation is far from new. Their most recent album is just a lot more successful than prior ones. They used to be death metal, if you listen to the very first Within Temptation album Sharon is a BACKUP singer! How absurd, don't you think?
Hahahahaa. Album covers...
That singer actually has -very- good taste in dresses, if you look up pictures of this band, you will see. Some dresses are just too pretty to only where once, though, I suppose, tsk! |
"Really starting to like some of their music (particularl y New Found Land) but wtf is up with all their covers? They are nearly identical!?! "
Refer to Goth-Ann's post below yours... |

I think the albums were part of a set, which is why the covers are that way.

Dude Within Temptation has been around for quite some time, way before this group came out. So if anything this group sounds similar to WT.
You're right, Shaun, WT's been around a while. Suckered in by 'Stand My Ground,' which I discovered on youtube and then added to Pandora. Awesome! But Leaves' Eyes: they could have done music for Lord of the Rings. So, though, could have a lot of other bands. Hmmmm! But LE would have done a really good job.
You call Within Temptation an upcoming band? They released on roadrunner records, which is one of the biggest metal labels out there.
If you like this group, there is an upcoming, rising Netherland band called Within Temptation, which sounds very similar. They have a nice variety of electronic and acoustic, hard and soft, rough and smooth sounding songs.

Leaves' Eyes is similar in many respects to Nightwish. The female vocalist has a softer, sweeter voice, and they have a growly male backup in some songs. In addition, they seem to have a Norse twist to the operatic metal sub-genre, which is refreshing. Highly recommended if you enjoy Nightwish, Evanescence, Sabadon, and other metal-rooted epic soundtrack-q u a l i t y styles.
