Liquid Tension Experiment
Biography
A sort of instrumental prog-rock/prog-metal supergroup, Liquid Tension Experiment features Dream Theater's John Petrucci (guitar) and Mike Portnoy (drums), keyboardist Jordan Rudess (who has worked with the Dixie Dregs and has since joined Dream Theater), and bassist extraordinaire Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, and many others). The group issued its self-titled debut in 1998 on the Magna Carta label and regrouped the following year for Liquid Tension Experiment 2. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

Amen wur mart. Mainstream music is cheap, fragmented, devoid of substance.
I am blown away by the shear musicianship shown here. Add the profound songwriting, and you have an instant masterpiece here ... hidden, obscurely tucked away underneath the folds of bloated fat known as the corporate record companies. |

In an age where "Black Eyed Peas" has the number one hit in America for twenty straight weeks I turn on my stereo and blare "When the Water Breaks" and say F*CK YOU mainstream crap! These ppl are masters of their instruments. "Just close your mind you can find all you need with your eyes" D.T.

This music is great. Just started geting into Dream Theater and the like... LTE is quite pleasant.
It really doesn't get much better than this. Dream Theater minus James LaBrie just makes it that much more amazing.
His tendinitis is caused by his "interesting play style"... It's not... sigh "correct" by any physical sense... but honestly who gives 2 s@%#'s. The man is a virtuoso around the art and I'm sure 2 Advil and a beer fix it just fine.
didn't buckethead work with liquid tension for lte 1? I may be thinking of a different band.
Anyways, this is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever heard. |
Unfortunatel y my friend I am a drummer that is extremely influenced by Portnoy. He is one of the GREATEST drummers out there and he has Tendinitis in his right arm, it's amazing he can still play...
After hearing Portnoy,Man ,am I glad I'm not a drummer!!!!! I t ' s hard enough being a bass player and hearing Victor Wooten, Jeff Berlin, and the likes of them, and not BURN ALL MY BASSES!!!! ! ! ! ! ! !
I came across LTE via Magna Carta and typically listen to one of their albums weekly. Truly incredible music, period.
Insanely Beautiful !! like Planet X- Crunchy shredding thru Patrucci, Portnoy plays like a beast- Thank you Pandora for more Gems.
Another great band, Pandora! Keep feeding my head at KeyWestRoXra d i O . . .
OMG! james Labrie Is the best in the world Dream theater would not be the same without labrie and vice versa
man, I love these guys! It's like DT without that PITA Labrie. GOD I can't stand him... DREAM THEATER, GET A BETTER VOCALIST!!!
catwoman4, you nailed it! I'm glad that you have returned to listening to quality music! It was truly a blessing the day I was introduced to Dream Theater. I've been a huge fan ever since the mid '90's and I'm never looking back! LTE is only an extension of how amazing these guys are...I wish they'd make LTE 3...we're still waiting patiently guys!
Biaxident by LTE is the most amazing song...I recently ran into it and heard it for the first time. Totally awesome and it got me back into the whole prog. rock thing again. It is just so amazingly energizing. Love it! When you compare it to music today..there is no comparison whatsoever. I would rather listen to these complex masterpieces than listen to whatever new inane pop song is being played on top 40.
I have been a dream theater fan for awhile without knowing about these guys, pretty stoked to have stumbled upon them; not a huge fan of the DT singer myself either
Agreed. Mike Portnoy is a god on drums. As are Petrucci, Rudess, and Levin on their respective instruments. Dream Theater is absolutely one of the most talented bands ever assembled. Oh, and melodymaster 7 3 - they just had their 20 year anniversary tour, not 10....does that make you feel even older?
DT RULZ!!!!!!! |
Aside from Buddy Rich and Neil Peart, Mike Portney is the most talented percussionis t ever.
Hard for me to believe they're going on a 10-year reunion tour. It makes me feel old; I'm not old.
Just goes to show ,Uncle Tony can Play ANYTHING ,AND DO IT GREAT!!!!!!
I've always enjoyed John's guitar playing, but the singer from Dream Theater was kinda hard on my ears. It's nice to be without that.
