Mat Kearney
Biography
Born in Eugene, OR, singer/songwriter Mat Kearney began his musical career 400 miles south at the Chico branch of California State University, where he studied literature and played on the soccer team. After completing his junior year, Kearney went to Nashville with friend/producer Robert Marvin, with the intention of only staying the summer to lay down a few songs. However, after offers for recording deals began coming in, Kearney decided to remain in Tennessee to seriously pursue his songwriting career.
Kearney's interesting blend of hip-hop and folk intrigued Inpop Records, which offered him the deal he'd been looking for and released his debut album, Bullet, in 2004. Kearney departed slightly from his rhymes and concentrated more on guitar work for his follow-up effort, Nothing Left to Lose. Released by Aware/Columbia Records in 2006, the album proved to be fairly popular, with three songs appearing in various episodes of Grey's Anatomy and two songs enjoying successful runs as singles. Kearney returned three years later with City of Black & White, supporting the album's release with a tour alongside Keane and the Helio Sequence. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

I think he sounds just like the lead singer of Coldplay
Just me, or does he sound exactly like the lead singer for Counting Crows?
He is different than coldplay personally I find his music inspiring. If I want to arouse my creativity to write more within my book I play "city of black and white" and other songs that stimulate the imagination.
Is Cold Play's lead singer trying a solo project? Oh yeah...that' s just some guy that sounds exactly like Chris Martin...

A bright light in the wasteland of so called nobodies Check out fascinationa l l e y w a y . c o m for a sneak peek at a book Written Under The Influence Of Music.

and he sounds exactly like chris martin. there's no difference. They are the same genre.
not exactly a hard benchmark to surpass....y o u know you listen to crappy music when you have to say "he's better than coldplay" to defend an artist you like...get over it.
i agree with crash, how does pandora find all these good artists that are local, and i haven't.
he's really good, and one more thing pandora gets cd covers wrong a lot |
and, nice pic of Carly Simon. I'm sure Mat would have a cougar like her on his cover any time.
Alright! This keeps happening on Pandora, I hear an artist I like and find out they are from right here in my home state...and I haven't heard about them locally. Good singer songwriter, nice voice.
Paul Wright is also from Eugene, Oregon. Could be wrong, but I think they are friends and have similar influences in music. May explain their similarities in sound...
Mat seems to play some good music, its ok I only like some of his work
My friend Karen and I are so excited that you're playing at the Mile High Music Festival in Denver!!! We just bought our tickets today...see you in July!!
I love how the picture for Nothing Left To Lose is a Carly Simon album. LOL! But I wish he would make another album as well, Nothing Left To Lose was in my car's CD player for months before I could take it out. :)
Matt is really good live. Thats when I first heard him and have been listining to him ever since.
He's tonality really similar. But his voicing of the words and his annunciation is much different than Chris Martin. I don't personally think one is better than the other. But yes, they have similarities I agree.
