Mat Kearney
Biography
Born in Eugene, OR, singer/songwriter Mat Kearney began his musical career at California State University, Chico, where he studied literature and played on the soccer team. After completing his junior year, Kearney went to Nashville with friend and producer Robert Marvin, with the intention of only staying the summer to lay down a few songs. However, after the offers for recording deals began coming in, Kearney decided to remain in Tennessee to seriously pursue music. His interesting blend of hip-hop and folk intrigued Inpop Records, which offered Kearney the deal he was looking for and released his debut album, Bullet, in 2004. His follow-up, Nothing Left to Lose, recorded at Dark Horse Studios in Nashville, found Kearney departing slightly from his rhymes and concentrating more on guitar work, and was issued by Aware/Columbia Records in 2006. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

Nothing Left To Lose

sorry, you can't put citizen cope in the same sentence as this lame guy......

He's amazing. Not only does he have musical talent, but the lyrics are intellegent. Sometimes I get tired of hearing "Christian" music and his songs always add human perspective.
Juan C., I agree. He does sound like lead singer of Coldplay. I thought it was them when I heard song for first time.
Mat combines the familiarity of pop music with a unique twist that makes him like nobody else out there. If you ever get a chance to see him live, you will discover that he is the real deal.
has anyone noticed that his voice is almost identical to chris trapper's voice (formerly of the Push Stars; now solo)? I am a huge fan of Chris's and have just discovered Mat through Pandora.
As someone else wrote in undeniable comments, He sounds like atmosphere mixed with citizen cope and a little everlast
I like the song nothing left to lose, because it is musically brilliant. His sound is unique and he doesn't sound like anyone else.
Saw Mat opening for Train, his set was awesome. Mat, tour the Southeast again, stop back in Cary, NC.
Very smooth...mus t say I like it. The rapping does throw me off a bit but I'm starting to like!
He sounds exactly like Chris Martin of Coldplay, not Adam Duritz of Counting Crows
i love this guy... he's so awesome. his song "all i need" made me cry though.
is it just me or this guy's voice sounds exactly like the guy from Counting Crows???
Well, I'm glad he decided to sing, b/c he is amazing! I love his voice! Yeah, he is definetely not a rapper. His voice is to good for that.
He was originally a rapper but did not get any deals for it so after a few years he decided to just sing
Stick to singing not rapping, cant buy the CD because the rap sucks, love the rest of the songs (what is he thinking with the rap????)
Great new artist, a comforting voice, similar to that of Chris Martin (Coldplay) I saw Matt in St Pete Florida recently, great concert, energetic & emotional.
I listen to this all of the time and it helps put me in a better mood.
