Matchbook Romance
Biography
Matchbook Romance is a melodic hardcore unit from Poughkeepsie, NY. The band started in 1997 when bassist Ryan Kienle, vocalist/guitarist Andrew Jordan, and drummer Aaron Stern's band, Fizzlewink, added guitarist Ryan "Judas" DePaolo and became the Getaway. All computer-savvy, the bandmembers hit the Internet hard, designing their own website and using it for shameless promotion of their wildly emotional take on crashing, midtempo hardcore. The band gained exposure through listings on unsigned band sites like MP3.com, and eventually began playing to a growing audience throughout the Northeast.
Epitaph honcho Brett Gurewitz heard the Getaway's demo via punknews.org, got in touch with Jordan, and soon the bandmembers found themselves in California, signing a deal with the famous punk rock label. Legal issues encouraged the Getaway to become Matchbook Romance, Gurewitz volunteered to produce their debut EP, tours were arranged, and Joe Barresi (Weezer, Pennywise) was lined up to produce the band's eventual full-length. Not bad for a bunch of guys who had faith in MP3.com. The West for Wishing EP appeared in April of 2003 with their debut full-length, Stories and Alibis, surfacing five months later. Lots of touring helped the latter release sell upward of 200,000 copies, and a 2004 split with Motion City Soundtrack satisfied fans until the more ambitious Voices was issued in February 2006. The guys spent much of the year on the road, including summer dates opening for Yellowcard. However, by March 2007, it all came to a sudden end as Matchbook Romance announced it was going on an indefinite hiatus for unspecified reasons. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

this is good music. i think if people are going to criticize music they should do it maturally.

Yuppers, these guys are awesome. And yes, it is Stories and Alibis. ^^
I know what you are talking about, supergrover! I think it's "Stories and Alibis". I want it up so I can hear Promise... *sniff*
Their best album isn't on the discography? The one in between West for Wishing and Voices, that I can't remember the name of, is by far their best work. WTF Pandora?!
MR sadly "broke up". just when i get to hear some good music, there's a reason why I can't like them for a long time. I'm sad... :'(
they aren't split up as far as I know right?
Andrew is my English teacher's son LOL and he came in to support his new album or something *shrug* lol he passed us his ONLY demo cd for the album. I thought that was kinda dumb xD trusting sophomores P: |
OMG... I am so glad my friend did NOT see that comment... 0_O
there 1st cd was super good... 2nd kinda wizzzzeak... but i met these guys they are pretty chill.. and MY EYES BURN is to good to hate them.. yaaa dig
anything referring to homosexualit y is completely unoriginal. and "douche" is just as lame.
so nice try, my German friend who failed to become a Russian tsar. |
smlemens, are you threatening someone because they think Fall Out Boy is s**t? 'Cause that makes you one of "those" fans. You know the kind - the fan other fans shun because they have an altar to the band in their closet?
Don't be that fan. And work on your insults. "Get a life" is the worst insult I've ever heard, aside from calling someone "gay." Anyway, I'm just amazed this Loftus dude got through a review without comparing -something- to Nirvana. |
People are still gettin' "dissed?" I didn't know anybody got "dissed" anymore. Not since the nineties anyway.
Hey! Matchbook Romance! Tatoos and black tees don't make you hardcore! You're all a bunch of turbo-douche s ! |
get a life, ironman.
i really dont even know anything by matchbox romance, but they sound good, so u really dont need to diss them. it just pisses the fans off. and if u know whats good for u, dont diss FOB, either. |
yeah, these guys were definitely NOT punk.
still, I have nothing negative to say about MB. :) |
This is about a punk as Falloutofthe c l o s e t b o y . Find some REAL punk music. NOFX, Bad Religion, the Offspring, Pennywise, the Dead Kennedys, the Vandals, Bigwig, Ignite, the Bouncing Souls, Rise Against's older stuff, Authority Zero, Good Riddance, Anti-Flag's older stuff, Face to Face, ah hell the list just goes on and on...
Hey Meto4 if it was their last concert it might have been bad becase of the issues they were having it's hard to play when you're not on good terms with the people you're playing with. Just saying cause I've heard people say their live shows were awesome.
These guys blow like the wind in Wyoming.
WTF!?!? THE AWFULSPRING? Who hasnt heard em what are you 10? they suck anyway!
