Matt Costa
Biography
Born in Huntington Beach, CA, in 1982, Matt Costa received his first guitar at age 12. While he was always interested in music, even playing in a band in high school, Costa's first love was skateboarding. His dreams of going pro came crashing to an end, however, when he seriously injured his leg in a skateboarding accident at 18. During his year-and-a-half-long rehabilitation period, Costa decided to refocus his energy on songwriting and guitar playing, and began using a four-track to make demos. One of these demos found its way to No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont, who liked what he heard so much that he offered to produce Costa's music, and soon they had recorded two independently released EPs, Matt Costa and The Elasmosaurus, as well as a full-length early version of Songs We Sing. These caught the ear of Brush Fire Records owner Jack Johnson, who was impressed by the young musician's work and signed Costa to his label and invited him to open his 2005 summer tour. In 2006, Costa's official major-label debut, Songs We Sing (slightly different from the 2005 indie version) was released. Unfamiliar Faces followed in 2008. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

His concert at House of Blues in Dallas was great. He was very original and entertaining .

he is good but a rip-off of a lot of other things I have already heard. But nothing adg nobody is original these days.

i really hope matt dosent change his music since he is getting more popular... i hate it when artists do that it mkes me think of them as fake
but i LOVE him right now |
First heard him a few years ago. still love it. reminds me of late summer --> fall.
its got a lot of depth and creative lyric |
i love his music. it has a rock that just blends amazingly and flows. I listened to him on my modest mouse/shins/ t h e beatles radio. good stuff
He's pretty tight. Matt Costa smoothly blends uplifting tunes w/melancholy words.
I really like him. He's got a very nice, very cute voice, and plays very well. He's very creative, and I like it, a lot better than Jack Johnson. It also helps that he looks a little bit like Jon Walker :D

Matt Costa is my favorite artist right behind Jack Johnson. I discovered him. . .through Lullaby(one of my faoverite songs)and have been itching to get a cd and will own all of them soon! Matt Costa is freaking amazing!
Mr. Pitiful is undeniably his best song. Costa, Jack, G Love, Xavier Rudd, and Frankenreite r are all awesome! When are they coming to Buffalo?
I like Costa, but I fell in love with "Mr.Pitiful" and unfortunatel y , none of his other songs sound like that. I thought there were two Matt Costas after hearing his other songs.
I'm not a big fan of this artist or anything, but I think he's much better than Jack Johnson, who just bores me. His music has more weight and just ... goes more places if that makes sense? It also sounds less poppy ...
I hope they don't ruin his music like they did to John Mayer's by adding all the pop stuff to the acoustics.
Dude is even better live. Costa is obviously very gifted and under rated.

hes much better than john mayer - much better lyrics, and hes more original. but I do like john mayer.... just not as much :)
His music is beautiful, although it's not what I'd expect from an ex-skatebord e r . Very sterotypical of me.
well never have heard of him untill now.he is from my hometown so... th@ is rad
No, I want to marry him, but his sound is a little wimpy, or is it just me?
Not really sure you can compare the two... both are awesome, but the main thing they have in common is their record company.
matt costa is wounderful if you like him then you would like Jack Johnson
