Moonspell
Biography
Hailing from the nation of Portugal, the doomy goth metal quintet Moonspell consists of vocalist Fernando Ribeiro, guitarist Ricardo Amorim, keyboardist/programmer Pedro Paixão, bassist Sérgio Crestana, and drummer Mike Gaspar. After a poorly distributed 1994 album for the French Adipocere label, Moonspell debuted on Century Media in 1995 with Wolfheart; it was followed in 1996 by Irreligious and in 1998 by Sin/Pecado. Moonspell returned in 1999 with Butterfly Effect. Two years later, the group released Darkness and Hope, produced by Hiili Hiilesman. In 2003, Moonspell collaborated with author José Luís Peixoto to release The Antidote, an album and book of the same name that told a complete narrative. Three years later, the group returned with Memorial, which was produced by Waldemar Sorychta and was the first to be released on the SPV Steamhammer label. In 2008, the group released their ninth album, Night Eternal. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came. Candles raise my desire, Why I'm so far away. No more meaning to my life, No more reason to stay. Freezing, feeling, Breathe in, breathe in... I'm coming back again... I'm not the one who's so far away When I feel the snake bite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came. |

That Wolfheart cover is pretty scary. I like their dark, mysterious songs.
I actually preferred Moonspell's earlier albums, and I loved how over-the-top Vampiria was.
I have seen them twice live and the shows are forceful and moody. Memorial is a masterpiece of composition with excellent layering. highly recommend this band..!!! oh and if you do get the chance to see them live check the crowd before after their set they like to mingle and talk with the fans

The album Sin is Excellent. Cant say much about the early material since they where still forging their sound. However, I must admit this fits in nicely where Paradise Lost left off in the early to Mid 90's. Sweet. Still rocking after all these years. Metal + Goth (a good mix kind of like Cookies and Cream).

If I was running through the woods being chased by werewolves, my preferred soundtrack would be music that SCARES AWAY WEREWOLVES

Sweeeet. If I was running through the woods being chased by werewolves this would be my preferred soundtrack.

Yes! A Portuguese Band! But for our Metal Brothers, search for Genocide and Grog.
Regards from Portugal!!!! ! ! |

I had the pleasure to see these masters live when they were touring behind Memorial. Most excellent!!! !

is it bad to be ''homoerotic '' i ' m not from here and i'm a bit naive and kinda innocent and really don't understand a lot of things. my head hurts.

I actually don't think they're that bad. I mean sure we've heard it all before right? All of us music experts who've been around forever that is.
I like this a lot, just saw it on myspace as their fav band. This is all kind of new for me.
Why do they need a new singer, what's wrong with Fernando?
i love you guys, F**K S**T C**K, sorry i have typing turrets, PISSS PISS COMEING FROM ITS ASSS HOLEIO
Very cool band. I will have to buy a CD from them; needs more keyboards, but the bassistis pretty good ;)
I don't find their music "silly and amaturish" at all. I don't like every single song (a lot of them are a little too gutteral for me), but the ones I like are excellent.
Like the overall sound... don't like the affected vocals. The lyrics are just too silly to seriously enjoy, but good in a sound mix.
not bad, but jvbal hit the nail on the head. good background music for my shop no type O but ok
i may have goten sun burn but now ive got a moon spell seen them recently pretty revolty in a positive perspective rythem sect tight . bass tough . more to come after reviuw after afew early listen there the s**t you know what i meeaan

Trite and forgettable. Irrelgious has some vaguely decent tracks, but these Type O Negative wannabes are as irrelevant as their ridiculous song titles. In concert, their "vampire" theatrics are campy and cliche, with the backup vocalist outshining the vamped up and homoerotic lead singer. "Best Forgotten" is a title that couldn't be truer. People looking for "dark and powerful" will only find "silly and amateurish."
