Mushroomhead
Biography
Known for its theatrical live show and the black masks that most of its members wear on-stage, Mushroomhead is one of the more unique and adventurous alternative metal outfits that emerged in the 1990s. And the Cleveland band's music is as interesting as its image; Mushroomhead's forceful yet melodic alterna-metal incorporates elements of hip-hop, punk, and goth rock as well as industrial and techno. The members of Mushroomhead have been performing incognito since 1993, when drummer Skinny founded the band. At first, Mushroomhead was only meant to be a side project. Its members were playing in various local bands at the time, and they wore the blacks masks (which look like a cross between S&M/bondage masks and World War I gas masks) so that people wouldn't recognize them. The only Mushroomhead member who doesn't wear a black mask opts for Kiss-like clown makeup instead. After a few years, Mushroomhead became one of Cleveland's top local attractions -- and its members kept wearing the masks when they saw how intriguing people found them to be. Mushroomhead's self-titled debut album was released independently in 1995, followed by Superbuick in 1996 and M3 in 1999. The Midwesterners signed with Eclipse in 2000, and their next album, XX, came out the following year.
In 2001, Mushroomhead's members included drummer/founder Skinny, lead vocalists J. Mann and Jeffrey Nothing, guitarists Bronson and Gravy, keyboardist Shmotz, bassist Pig Benis, and sample provider Stitch when they signed to Universal Records to re-release XX. Their first proper effort for the label was 2003's dynamic XIII, but the band soon parted ways with not only Universal, but also vocalist J. Mann during a subsequent tour. Undeterred, Mushroomhead pressed on with their D.I.Y. ethos intact and welcomed new frontman Waylon, formerly of 3 Quarters Dead, into the fray. The DVD Mushroomhead, Vol. 1 followed in mid-2005 before the guys returned in September 2006 with Savior Sorrow, released through New York-based indie Megaforce Records. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

who gives a f**k about who was around first or who wore masks first? as long as slipknot and mushroomhead keep rocking and making badass music, i will forever be a fan of both.

Stop saying f**k, TGS, you s**tty f**k. Why the f**k are saying s**t words on every f**king page? Now I am a f**king hypocrite.

Gotta agree with lphill, the water drums are my fave part of the show, even though I always walk away soaked! I have seen them live probably at least 20-25 times now, and am front row every time! It's one he*l of a show!!
I saw these guys at Mayhem Fest on Aug 2nd at DTE Energy Theater near Detroit. When they came on stage I honestly did not know who these guys were. When then departed they had a new fan. The show the put on was amazing. The water drums were fantastic and blew my mind.

MRH live shows destroy! Get in the first few rows at Peabody's and you will be gasping for air. The crowd is rowdy as sh*t and MRH just fuels the fire.

Pigbenis0013 - - A c t u a l l y J Mann is in Pitch Black Forest and The Alter Boys, and he occasionally does guest vocals on other Fractured Transmitter band tracks. Sounds like you're the one who should be doing his research!! |
one of the best bands i've seen live in a while awesome live. if you have the chance to see these guys do it.
*laughs at this is not my names observation* i love this band old and new stuff of course new stuff is tamer and more melodic but its more mature its more about songwriting than just smashing through a song and making noise (not that that isnt fun too) im gonna stick with them and see what comes out
I USED to love this band and their live shows USED to be the s**t. Ever since they signed with major labels and ecspecially ever since J-Mann left they have gone straight downhill. If you wanna hear good s**t check out pitch black forecast J-Manns new band.

Why do some people capitalize every word in a sentence? Come on, it's easier not to do that and it's proper grammar.

I Like Slipknot They are One of My Favorite Bands, But In My Opinion, Mushroomhead Has More Talent Than Slpiknot, Plus They Came First.
hey staticaddict , I grabbed my copy at Best Buy, and also bought an unopened copy at one of their concerts, so if you are not fortunate enough to see them, check best buy if there is one near you.
eat a 12 inch cack, you can go suck Gene Simmons left nut for all I care. So get a life you f**king bag of chodes.
Mushroomhead is the original. Slipknot is a generic form of them and a rip off made from Roadrunner records when MH refused to give in to RR and play what RR wanted them to play. Plain and simple MH kicks a** and deserves a little respect.
where could i find XIII? ive check almost every cd place around me and nothing...:(
I Love Mushroomhead . I Also Like Slipknot, But In My Opinion Mushroomhead Has More Talent Than Slipknot. They are From the Same Area As Me. Hell, I Actually Knew 2 People Who Met Them. One of the Kids in My Class Has a Band and Now That They Know St1tch They Can Get Into Recording Studios. MUSHROOMHEAD CAME FIRST!!!!!!

agreed, I still bang Simpleton in my deck today, makes me feel moments of insanity...
mushroomhead kicks a**. who cares if they wear masks like another bands. who cares if their paint is better or not. What matters is that the music is completely badass. Every single song they have produced has been good, and most are frickin awesome. They stick in your head, and always sound good.
Kiss sucks, respect them as artists, just not my kind of music. i would rather have something I can bang my head to or mosh to at that.
woah woah woah... don't even bring kiss into this they are WAY better than mushroomhead by far kiss' make-up was made by themselves and mushroomhead s make-up is nothing compared to theirs.
I've listened to some of them, and really, to me, they not only look like Slipknot, but sound like them as well. Whether Slipknot took their idea or not, it doesn't matter- they only intended it to be a side-project in the first place, remember? Slipknot is happy with their money.
