Ohgr
Biography
Nivek Ogre was the snarling voice behind Canada's fierce industrialists Skinny Puppy, and after their demise in 1995, he was already tinkering around with various music projects. Together with producer Mark Walk (Pigface, Ruby), he designed the unit called OhGr. The new moniker, which had been in the works just prior to Skinny Puppy's end, did not see the light of day until the late '90s due to contractual drama with Rick Rubin's American Recordings. Ogre had anticipated releasing the debut album entitled WELT that same year, but music industry politics and egos played into ignoring the record. It wasn't until 1999 that Ogre's legal bindings to the record company expired and WELT was finally rescued. Tracks were revamped and OhGr inked a deal with Spitfire Records instead, and the album was issued in February 2001. Far more positive and motivated compared to the years he spent with Skinny Puppy, Nivek Ogre appeared thrilled with his OhGr and eager to make it worthwhile. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

Do they only have those two albums out? I think I really like their stuff, but I haven't heard enough to tell if I might have found anotha favorite band.

Sounds like a hardcore smashmouth to me. I love smashmouth, but I've moved on, just on a personal level. They're amazing at what they do :)

seen/meet ohgr for the DEVILS IN MY DETAILS tour... he was a very nice guy .not at all what i may have expected .i like his solo stuff and the new skinny puppy stuff .mythmaker was...OK,but i'm just happy to hear them play again...

I saw these guys in concert, it was good... but I will always miss the Skinny Puppy days. Too Dark Park was the best, if only we could get more like that? If only, huh? It just makes me want to break out the good ol CD collection :)

i agree with thompson that is a real good point its wasnt like there other stuff

errr... the only way a band can be "shocking" these days would be to eat babies on stage. what was shocking in the 80s and 90s is passe now. that being said, i hope SP does something a little different for their next album, because Mythmaker was a little flat, in my opinion. i still liked it... just not as much as i should have. i don't even need another Too Dark Park... i'd just settle for something better than the Process, lol.

DIMD owns, sunnypsyop owns, welt owns. Saw them live on the dimd tour, that owned. They were with american memory project which also owns. Dig what he was wearing in the tour. Blowing chicken feathers around, projectors shooting video salad at him from port fore and starboard, f**king up bill mosely's lines. Listen to all of it. I feel SP has stopped being shocking and is just playing to an image, something they never should have done. Ohgr is an artist doing what the f**k he wants.

strange... has anyone else heard his newest album yet? it sounds more like cEvin Key than Ogre. it's less melodic and poppy and more ambient and noise-core. not bad... just not what i expected from Nivek Ogre.

I think it's silly when people say that if there'd been no "insert idol 1" there'd be no "second gen whatever that's similar".
Not to take anything away from Skinny Puppy's talent, influence and importance in the genre but there were other industrial/n o i s e acts around that were pushing the same direction. |

I miss the in your face feeling that Welt generates for hours after listening to the album
|
||
i like the song "cracker" cause he talks s**t about trent reznor taking beats and not giving him "ogre" any credit also talks s**t about eminem doing the same s**t
if it wasnt for ogre and shinny puppy thered be no nine inch nails and the like. if you listen to the album cracker is on it sounds like ohgr took over where nin left off cause lets face it when ya stop drinking and doing drugs the misic becomes lame as f**k,only misician that kicked a** sober was the mighty FRANK ZAPPA |

Water. Great stuff. I was entranced by their music. I was never a skinny puppy fan though, but likely haven't heard their best works.

you naughty girl, lil miss misfit ;-)
But about OhGr, a little more mainstream and techno than Skinny Puppy but enjoyable nonetheless. The show in Anaheim was great, the question is what happens now with Skinny Puppy taking up their energies??? |

Makes me want to touch yourself too.
