Owl City
Biography
Owl City is the electronic brainchild of Adam Young, who launched the project in 2007 while living at his parents' home in Owatonna, MN. Troubled by insomnia, Young began spending his evenings in the household basement, where a computer and several instruments provided a welcome diversion from his sleeping patterns. He eventually combined those diversions into a blend of electronica and emo-pop, using little more than his computer and various keyboards to record the material. Songs were uploaded to MySpace upon completion, and Young began attracting a surprising amount of attention on the networking site. Of particular note was "Hello Seattle," a fabricated ode to the Emerald City whose viral popularity earned Young a record contract with Universal Republic. Ocean Eyes, his debut release for the label, arrived in 2009, coinciding with Owl City's first national tour. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

(( )) # # I like them . . . they have a nice sound and g-rated lyrics |
I love the lyrics. But I'm not sure about the similar artists really... I feel like Owl City is very different from the pop rock guitar/ piano of Jack's Mannequin etc. (Not that I don't like all those guys, I just think Owl city is more electronic than they are)

"Representin ' for Minnesota! Muthaf**ka what?!?" LOL! JK ;p Nah, I live in the Twin Cities. I didn't know Owl City was from Owatonna so I'm pleased that we have yet another musical credit! Very Creative indeed! Who knows maybe some day we'll be talking about Adam Young among other Minnesota musical greats like Bob Dylan and Prince.

Owl City represents all those people out there who are tired of popularity, power, sex and drugs being the center of everything. I happen to be one of those people. If you want something different, you'll like them(:

I love the sound of Owl City and their lyrics ROCK!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
i like them, they have good messages, good lyrics. i like the music too. more people should listen to this stuff because its the kind of stuff you would be comfterable having a little five-year old listening to. as Kelsey said, G rated. just up my alley, yet i AM the girl who hasnt once cussed purposefully in her life . . . and i do have a friend that you would think hates the very idea of Owl City, and actually says it's pretty good
kelseys spot on. and just cuz theyre weird to you, think, they probably mean something to him.
To all the people critiquing the lyrics of Owl City's songs... It seems like every popular song these days is about sex drugs and violence. It's about time a song or two with G rated lyrics made the ITunes top 10. Personally, I think it's refreshing.

Owl City is so insanely original and awesome. They ROCK!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
o, and not to mentoin his song titles. 'fuzzy blue lights'? 'hot air balloon'? 'fireflies'? 'vannilla twilight'? deffinatly on something. he sucks.
hes on crack. srsly. "I got 1000 hugs from 10000 lightning bugs, cuz they tried to teach me how to dance"? hes either disturbed, high, or the new song director on barney. listen to lady gaga, shes a disco slut but at least she doesnt sound like she just came out of a drugtrip or preschool or something. ok, maybe the drugs but thats every celeb these days lol. still, OWL CITY SUCKS!!!!! EGGS!!!!!!!! ! ON A STICK!!!!!!! !

Owl City is fun, catchy, happy, nonsense. Insomnia can affect the body similar to being drunk or high. Listening to his lyrics, I can tell.
And to me, his stuff sounds all too much the same for me to really get intrigued by it. Similar chords, similar rhythm, similar nonsense themes. |

I adore Owl City!
Adam writes great music, and has a very unique sound. People should listen to more than just 'Fireflies'. It's nice to hear a song about Seattle, too. |
I love Adam Young. I have loved his music for a long time now. I hate the people that have heard only Fireflies, and love him. Gosh.
Not a fan. D: Their bubblegum-ne s s kind of creeps my out. And they obviously have never been to Seattle to know that it's not warm and cuddly. It's still a city, and it's actually kind of stand-offish , if you're in the wrong place (and look too obvious as a tourist.) Seattle is also very damp. Not rainy, usually, just damp.

I hate this band. I'm only here looking for a way to ban them :-3.
I'm loving Owl City - it's like two of my favorite bands (Mae and The Postal Service) collided!
I love Adam work on these masterpieces , but if I'm correct, some of his works are incorrectly labeled on here. While listening to my NeverShoutNe v e r ! station, Owl City came up a few times, saying the songs I was listening to were from the Maybe I'm Dreaming album, when they were actually from the Ocean Eyes album. Also, I believe Of June was released in 2007.
I love them too but i hate the whole craze where everyone thinks they are a fan when they have only heard fireflys. i mean I'm happy for them becoming more popular but thats not real popularity when everyone just thinks they know them.
