A Perfect Circle
Biography
Formed by Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan and former Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel, A Perfect Circle is an extension of the alt-metal-fused-with-art rock style popularized by Tool in the early to mid-'90s. While similar to Tool in intensity and melancholy, A Perfect Circle is less dark and more melodic, with a theatrical, ambient quality that incorporates occasional strings and unusual instrumentation.
After the release of Ænima in 1996, Tool found themselves in the midst of an extended legal battle with former label Freeworld Entertainment. When the dust settled two years later, the band reached a 50/50 joint venture agreement for future recordings and, feeling a little burned out, decided to take some time off. It was at this point that Keenan joined up with Howerdel and Paz Lenchantin to form A Perfect Circle. Keenan had met Howerdel in 1992 when Tool opened for Fishbone. Howerdel had been Fishbone's tech at the time and had played Keenan a few of his songs. Keenan was impressed and the two talked of collaborating in the future. However, the opportunity didn't present itself until after the Freeworld settlement. With Keenan on vocals, Howerdel on guitar, and Lenchantin on bass, the trio recruited ex-Failure and Enemy member Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar and ex-Vandals and Guns N' Roses member Josh Freese on drums.
The quintet rehearsed together but didn't announce the formation of a new band until performing for the first time on August 15, 1999, at a benefit concert at the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Howerdel, who had been composing songs for years, as well as working with bands such as the Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails, became the band's chief songwriter and producer. A Perfect Circle released their debut album, Mer de Noms, in 2000. Thirteenth Step followed in 2003, and the covers album Emotive appeared in 2004. ~ Tracy Frey, All Music Guide

Just because two bands have the same singer does not mean they sound the same. Why don't you be intelligent enough to listen to something other than the singing for once.

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came. Candles raise my desire, Why I'm so far away. No more meaning to my life, No more reason to stay. Freezing, feeling, Breathe in, breathe in... I'm coming back again... I'm not the one who's so far away When I feel the snake bite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again, And I don't remember why I came. |

Jesus f**k me hard that dumbf*ck willow is still around???!!! g o d the last time i was here was like five months ago.. willow go eat a big one and choke.. godsmack has like one ok song give it up already. as for punk guy with the stars.. i dont think you pissed anyone off i kinda like how you put that.. and patrick you also can choke on the same one as willow.
sawyer gaines i think the best thing to do is to start from oldest to newest so you can see how apc progresses. apc and tool both kick a** |
Willow's existence is purely our fault, by acknowledgin g anything it writes, you give it reason to live, and that’s basically the definition of a Troll. I’m doing so right now as a cautionary tale. If everyone stopped commenting on its page or responding to the Proterozoic statements that it’s barely formed brain burps out periodically , it’ll die.
I can't believe he's not tired of posting stuff about godsmack every day of his lame life...

Tool and APC i agree r prety diferent, Tool is a bit darker (except for Pet and Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums by APC), APC is also WAY more melodic and dosnt focus on those INSANE time sigs. Besides the factors of Maynard, Lyrical meaning, and awsomnes, Tool and A Perfect Circle r very diferent
No way does APC and Tool sound the same, yes they share similar quality's (Mayanard) but the dynamics and texture in their sound is completely different as is the subject matter in the lyrics. Both amazing but I'd still give the upper hand to Tool; they require a little more brain-use to follow and appreciate.. . . that statement is actually true to any band measured up to Tool. Cheers.
Im gonna have to piss everyone off on here and say that tool and a perfect circle...... A R E THE SAME F**KING BAND!!!!! what a bunch of self absorbed pricks...if youre gonna have a side project, make it sound different than your other band!!! this goes for you too, corey taylor and stone sour...i mean slipknot....
I'm gonna have to piss everyone off here by saying that I like APC slightly more than Tool. Tool is a great band, but they don't have that lulling, sinister edge that APC has. Tool has it's aggression out in the open, it's a knife and it glistens in the light. APC's aggression is like a knife concealed in velvet, it's hidden behind something pleasing to the touch and eye, but when the velvet is removed in the final backstab, you feel the true bite of the blade.
In my opinion, that's their best album. Thirteenth Step is my second choice. Well, gee they need to come out with a new album cause there aren't too many.
im thinking of buying an APC album becus i reli lik Tool, and im starting to get into APC, im lening towards Mer De Noms, good choice?
Hopefully they do come out with another album soon. It's been way too long.
to bad pet wasnt released cause they thought it was to heavy for them
I didn't know about Maynard singing those songs. I'll check them out, I do like the Deftones.
Passenger on Deftones White Pony album with Maynard is an absolute must listen for any Tool or APC fan. (That whole album is pretty damn good actually). The other collaboratio n song that's a must is Rage Against the Machine with Maynard live playing Know your Enemy.
@Ranter, Counting Bodies Like Sheep is basically a remix of Pet. I prefer the song Pet as well. @Mike, I guess that's what it is about Tool verses APC. The Tool shows are much more exhilarating . Wow! Thanks for sharing that. It's cool to hear how people describe their live show experiences. NIN also puts on fabulous shows! Well, I've watched the live videos on youtube and they are amazing.
to sweet lil goddess: i've seen apc twice and tool only once; and tool takes it...apc in their own right is a great show but tool just has a more overall intense show...you feel it, it becomes you, there's nothing else...it's truly indescribale
whats the deal between Counting Bodies Like Sheep and Pet? Aren't they pretty much the same song? I prefer Pet, but I don't think I could like with and not the other.
Thanks for that list Mis ADHD. I havent heard a couple of those songs, I look forward to checking them out. Any of you guys like Passenger with Chino? I love that song. I would like to hear another collaboratio n between those two!! |
Thank you for sharing that Tool.Honk. I definitely will try to go see either one of them live. I'm sure it would be such a fabulous experience.
@ Sweet Lil Goddess, for me it's a little of both. I'm a much bigger Tool fan than APC but I do love them both. Tool is more of an overall senses overload experience. There are spectacular visuals to go along with the bands amazing energy and sound. APC is great though. I'd suggest you never miss either if they're in town, you'll never regret it.
recently discovered a perfect circle, and I love hem like I do Chevelle. My favorites are:
The Outsider Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums Judith (explicit) Weak and Powerless (Tilling My rave) Renholder mix lohner mix Let's Have a War What's Going On 3 Libras |
I've heard a few people say that Tool puts on a better show than APC. Is that just because they enjoy more songs by Tool; or is it just the overall quality of the performance?
